Asia Pacific Superyachts Maldives has reported that the new marina project currently underway on the reclaimed island of Hulhumalé - located south of North Male Atoll - will service up to 300 yachts once completed.
The project is being undertaken by a government owned company, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and is part of a much wider scheme focused on the urban development of Hulhumalé as a whole which begun in 1997.
Land reclamation has begun for the Hulhumalé Yacht Marina area under phase 2 of the Hulhumalé development project. The marina will include such amenities as luxury retail facilities, as well as a yacht club which includes exhibition space, dry berth facilities and a boating dock.
Furthermore, a modern fully equipped cruise terminal is also planned, located directly next to the marina with an automatic, covered boarding bridge to facilitate cruise lines visiting the Maldives.
Though no specific date has been agreed upon for completion, Mohamed Hameed, Director of Asia Pacific Superyachts Maldives told SYT that the project could be completed and be fully operational by late 2017.
