The Dutch shipyard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2948" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van der Valk Shipyard (Company)">Van der Valk Shipyard</a> has unveiled the details of the 40-metre Project Evo, the yard's largest superyacht to date.&nbsp;Due to be launched in 2026, the construction of the all-aluminium superyacht is now underway.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309610/image/large-20073662842f2c77da1d012b83f5218c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309610">The yacht's original exterior design was completed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7429" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="SFG Yacht Design (Company)">SFG Yacht Design</a> and Fancy by Dada, with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Cristiano Gatto Design</a>, the interior designer, adding new length and angles to Project Evo. The yacht has been commissioned by experienced yacht owners who have previously owned a number of high performance yachts, with this being their first custom yacht project. The team of experts involved in developing the yacht have also included the naval architects from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design (Company)">Diana Yacht Design</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/285" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ginton Naval Architects (Company)">Ginton Naval Architects</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309611/image/large-f768e943e5380cb003b929e436021c38.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309611">The owners were inspired by an exceptionally attractive design from Franco Gianni of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7429" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="SFG Yacht Design (Company)">SFG Yacht Design</a> and Doga Naz Cebeci from Fancy by Dada. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Cristiano Gatto Design</a> initially became involved in the project working on the layout and interior style, as <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Gatto</a> explains;“My participation began on a micro level as we worked with the owners to leverage on some specific furniture design concepts I had previously created. They were looking to recreate a similar ambience onboard their yacht and the interior design emerged from this point. Welcoming the results, the owners asked us to add some of this aesthetic flavour to the exterior design, further evolving the DNA of the preliminary concept penned by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7429" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="SFG Yacht Design (Company)">SFG</a> and Fancy by Dada. We changed some of the proportions and lines while extending the stern by around two metres. The overall design and profile, however, remains very much the brainchild of all who have been involved.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309612/image/large-629b2f83a6ad53354d7c70d5a75d65ca.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309612">While details of the entirely bespoke interior style are being kept under wraps for now, Gatto says that the owners are delighted with how all their efforts have paid off. “The process from first renders to interior concept took around ten months, an exceptional timeframe for a 40-metre project that will truly deserve to be called a mini-megayacht.” Project Evo will include first-class accommodations for ten, including a master stateroom on the main deck and two twin guest suites and two VIPs on the lower deck. As a result of this, the judge did not dismiss the case because Boats Group lacks market power.However, the judge said that Brill Maritime had failed to show that Boats Group engaged in illegal anticompetitive conduct and under US antitrust law, being a monopoly is not illegal by itself.The court repeatedly emphasised that monopoly power is legal, but using that power through anticompetitive behaviour to exclude rivals is illegal.&nbsp;The judge found that Brill Maritime’s three main allegations were insufficient including that Boats Group became dominant by acquiring competitors such as YachtWorld.com, boats.com and YachtCloser.com.The judge said that acquiring competitors is not necessarily illegal and that Brill Maritime had not explained how these acquisitions had harmed competition. The complaint had described the acquisitions as “strategic” suggesting it was more of a successful business move than illegal conduct. The judge explained that Brill Maritime had shown that Boats Group bought competitors, but not that these acquisitions were unlawful. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/355039/image/large-513a0ee840e10e5371f647093bba58d9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/355039">Brill Maritime also claimed that Boats Group's subscription agreements stoped brokers from listing boats elsewhere. The judge examined the contract language and concluded that the provision merely prevented brokers from implying that a YachtWorld or Boats Group listing originated somewhere else. He therefore concluded that you can advertise on YachtWorld and on other sites and the contract simply prevented you from pretending a Boats Group listing came from another platform, meaning the clause is not an exclusive dealing arrangement.Finally, Brill Maritime argued that Boats Group had dramatically increased its prices. The judge responded that high prices alone are not an antitrust violation. The court cited multiple precedents saying a legal monopolist is generally allowed to charge whatever prices it wants. TISG and RYI have announced the delivery of the first Picchiotti Gentleman 24M yacht, which has been christened Gentleman.
