The renderings and details of a new 30-metre motor yacht design by the name of Project YAK have been unveiled. According to designer Gianluca Caputi of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1523" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Caputi Studio (Company)">Caputi Studio</a>, “this concept can be summed up in one word: fast explorer.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340168/image/large-4e879f4bdd22d7616c8b920493b8b0ef.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340168">While the acronym Y.A.K. stands for ‘Yacht Adventure Karma’, the name “yak” also refers to the powerful horned animal known for weathering through tough mountainous terrain. Similarly, this explorer yacht is defined by her ability to take on the high seas with a high performance, building upon the hull of the 27-metre Coastguard Corrubia class vessel, a military project created for the Italian custom police Guardia di Finanza.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340170/image/large-2f795164ebb651c809a7851578572eff.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340170">YAK’s exterior silhouette exudes futuristic sleekness while also evenly distributing her overall volume. As <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1523" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Caputi Studio (Company)">Caputi</a> explained, the design is “based on the stealth architecture of the superstructure aesthetically characterised by the counter-arched ‘arrow-shaped’ windscreen”. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340169/image/large-aef2d5777940de5eb25ac32b0466754d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340169">Furthermore, YAK’s section of pure glass volume resembles a faceted black diamond, and is home to the sky lounge, the helm station, a saloon and a service bathroom, as well as a room that can serve as a small gym, massage room, or conditioned wine cellar. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340166/image/large-9f662e35481ba3a1e19f0d729e77b4f1.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340166"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1523" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Caputi Studio (Company)">Caputi</a> commented: “The design goal was to respond to the most current market demands, which in this product range demand large volumes within total lengths that are nevertheless still easily manageable with a reduced crew.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340160/image/large-aee574274a7500951167b20fd37b43aa.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340160">Outside, the motor yacht offers guests 145.4-square-metres worth of exterior deck spaces between the main deck and upper deck. YAK’s upper outdoor deck, known as the ‘sky deck’, contains sun loungers and a bar area for sunbathing and alfresco entertainment. Further opportunities for relaxation in the sun can be found forward of the bridge, which offers guests an expansive sunbed and a pouf. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340163/image/large-edab71a806750667bc9a6b265a15409e.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340163">The two-deck motor yacht places special emphasis on the flow between indoor and outdoor living areas, as expansive sliding windows merge her interiors with the maritime environment, while YAK’s saloon has the option to be converted to a spacious veranda overlooking the sea. Additionally, the midship configuration is wide-bodied as it advances towards the bow in order to maximise the interior room of the vessel’s full-beam master suite. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340164/image/large-f68583a32582be4af02aea026ed94584.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340164">The owner’s suite is complete with an office, a dressing room furnished with wardrobes and chests of drawers, along with an ensuite bathroom with double basins. The area also offers owners a centrally positioned king-size bed, a chaise lounge and a continuous ribbon window for far-reaching sea views. Moreover, approximately half of the volume on YAK’s lower deck is occupied by remaining guest accommodation, consisting of four double VIP suites, each with an ensuite bathroom.&nbsp;“An ambitious challenge where the quantitative response cannot, however, disregard even highly qualitative standards of the architectural proposal obtained thanks to the search for a truly holistic design where every choice of shape or material works towards the final achievement of harmonic balance,” <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1523" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Caputi Studio (Company)">Caputi</a> added.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340162/image/large-55391d44c1b3e15baf05d0547005026d.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340162">Staying true to what <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1523" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Caputi Studio (Company)">Caputi</a> calls the “philosophy of ‘Augmented Design’”, YAK is fitted with kinematic mechanisms to optimise the total walking surface and enhance visibility. There are two terraces per broadside, with those located towards the stern opening at the height of the aft platform to form a beach club of more than 18-square-metres. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/340158/image/large-495290cacf668a4b8c2d73ad896745bc.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/340158">In addition, a central portion of YAK’s aft platform lowers one-metre underwater for the launching and hauling of both tenders or watertoys, while the two broadside terraces hide two garage areas that house her Jet Ski and charging unit. The first renderings show a large alfresco lounge area at her bow, offering the perfect space for guests to entertain or relax.&nbsp;In terms of performance, Apex is powered by twin <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1409" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MTU (Company)">MTU</a> engines, providing her with a top speed of 28 knots, a cruising speed of 22 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 13 knots.&nbsp;

According to the designers, the concept was conceived as a purpose-built world cruise cruiser capable of supporting extended voyages while accommodating a range of owner lifestyles.A key feature of the project is the availability of three distinct configurations built on a common platform.The Fisherman version is focused on a generous open aft deck designed to accommodate a substantial tender and a selection of water toys, without needing a dedicated chase boat. In Zero Mode or also known as Silent Mode, M80 would operate fully on electric propulsion, delivering vibration-free navigation with zero local emissions for up to eight hours, which would enable access to environmentally protected areas.In Eco-Hybrid Mode, diesel generators operate at optimal efficiency while electric motors provide propulsion, reducing fuel consumption by an estimated 25 to 30 percent.
