An impressive fleet of more than 16 classic and super cars has successfully completed the 2011 Redman Whiteley Dixon Auto Tour (RWD) in association with furniture makers, Silverlining.
The Tour departed RWD’s design studio in Beaulieu at 07.00hrs on Sunday 18th September 2011 and celebrated its triumphant arrival into Casino Square at 17.00 on Tuesday 20th September. A congratulatory drinks reception, attended by almost 200 guests was held on the terrace of Hotel de Paris, marking the end of the Tour and the beginning of the Monaco Yacht Show 2011.
The drivers of the handsome fleet were a select group of 30 guests (by invitation only); from international superyacht owners, designers, shipyard owners to architects and artists. All of whom pushed their driving skills to the limit as they spent three days navigating through France’s narrow villages, steep climbs and the original Reims-Geaux F1 racing circuit.
Carefully selected stops ensured that guests were able to take their foot off the pedal to enjoy stunning scenery, delicious cuisine and exchange stories from the open road. It wasn’t plain sailing for the experienced duo behind the wheel of the Alvis Vanden Plas SWB. Somewhere close to the pretty Village of D’Ige (on the second day of the Tour) an engine failure brought the Tour to a swift end for the vintage automobile. The duo joined the various Porsches and continued on to complete the Tour.
Joint director of Redman Whiteley Dixon, Justin Redman comments: “The RWD AutoTour is definitely the more civilised way to travel to the MYS. The idea behind the Tour emerged from our belief that designing and delivering a custom-superyacht is the ‘ultimate journey’ but with the day-to-day hustle and bustle of airports, taxi’s and hires cars, ironically ‘enjoying the journey’ is often lost. We felt it was about time to reignite the excitement and pioneering spirit of travel and we wanted to share all of this with the great people whom we are fortunate to work with as a way of saying thank you. A spectacular car rally with the Monaco Yacht Show at the end of it seemed like the most natural idea - and so the RWD AutoTour was born. We are thankful to our friends at Silverlining and Jaguar for supporting the Tour and for cranking up the horse-power.”
On behalf of Silverlining, Mark Boddington comments: “The rally gives us a unique opportunity to spend several days sharing adventure and exchanging ideas and inspirations with clients and friends from the yacht design world. The tour has brought a whole new level of excitement to the build up of the Monaco Yacht Show. From the moment we leave the historic motoring village of Beaulieu to the arrival in Casino Square in Monte Carlo. The spirit of adventure is in Silverlining's blood and we love sharing the challenge with our friends and clients!”
