SuperYachtTimes.com is delighted to announce that Richard Callender, BA Hons. has joined the team as the new Sales and Advertising Manager, based in London, United Kingdom.
Richard has had a life-long passion for sailing and the sea. Having grown up a stone’s throw away from the water in Chichester Harbour, on the South Coast of England, Richard has been in boats all his life, gaining numerous sailing and powerboat qualifications along the way.
“Sailing is my escape, my true enjoyment in life. Very few people are lucky enough to work in an industry they are passionate about; I have always been determined to be in that minority”, Richard explains.
Richard studied Maritime Business at University in Southampton, which also provided an opportunity to become heavily involved in Yacht Racing from Hamble in the Solent.
Free-lance yacht delivery work for X-Yachts Ltd in Denmark followed, before working for Ancasta International Boat Sales Ltd on the South Coast of England. An opportunity then arose to move to the City of London, working for Underwriting Risk Services in their specialist Superyacht division. This provided Richard with a wonderful insight into this unique industry.
His greatest attribute is his interpersonal skills, enhanced throughout life as a keen team sportsman; he’s a very friendly chap who prides himself in the ability to build long-lasting and trusted relationships.
In his own time, Richard continues to do a lot of Yacht Racing in the Solent, and also get involved in as much sport as possible. As an ex-Royal Marine Reservist, weather does not seem to interrupt his endeavour to attempt what some people may view as mad, having completed numerous international yacht deliveries over the years, a few marathons, mountain climbs and long-distance cycling expeditions. Next on the agenda is a single-handed 125 mile canoe race from Devizes to Westminster!
