This article has been written for&nbsp;SuperYacht Times by James Roy, Managing Director of&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral Naval Architects</a>. &nbsp;When I was at school there was one subject that I really did not enjoy: Chemistry. I was drawn more to the world of physics and mechanics. Fast forward and having qualified and practiced as a naval architect for 26 years I find myself almost studying chemistry again – urrgh!<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/233872/image/large-fafa9c273bd17f795a5a0b48f3b7c0bc.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/233872">So what is the chemistry that is challenging us? The answer is simple, carbon, or rather how to avoid it. The responsibility for answering this question must no longer be viewed as the domain of others, it is becoming a question that many professions are having to play a role in answering, whether they like it or not.The job of engineering superyachts to meet specific performance criteria for noise, speed, seakeeping or any other functional performance criteria is relatively simple. Being able to guide and advise clients on project strategy and technology choices to avoid obsolescence, deliver on sustainability aspirations, and avoid future regulatory traps is more complex, but in many ways an increasingly important skill.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/232627/image/large-8e0b7b2f24203564af9552e8d730348c.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/232627">(above: Lateral's widening research is now extending into land-based production of hydrogen)The question of carbon, and the skills to guide future choices, is not confined to our own domain of yachts / ships and the marine industry, it impacts all aspects of humanity, wherever energy is used. As stated in Vaclav Smil’s book on Energy &amp; Civilisation, “Energy is the only universal currency; it is necessary for getting anything done.”Humanity has undergone previous energy transitions, however the one that faces us is the hardest yet, as we are forced to downscale in terms of energy density, no one solution will fit all and we must adapt across all aspects of our lives to different solutions. The innovation needed to deliver these solutions is vast and we are now faced with a bewildering choice of strategies and technologies to pursue, some mature but many embryonic and of low readiness level at scale.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/232628/image/large-7492c6f2407892b823f366a9e8dde131.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/232628">Unfortunately there are no absolute answers as to which is correct for the application to superyachts. Many if not most will fail (such is the nature of innovation). How therefore do we become skilled in guiding our clients in the choices available to them? Even with on-point geopolitical insight, encyclopaedic knowledge of technical development across multiple industries, and access to significant innovation capital there is significant risk in making the wrong choices in the development of a high value asset such as a superyacht.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/231512/image/large-e4a799cd097a2004ed12c9ceff461830.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/231512">Part of the solution is to go back to school, thankfully (for me) not to the subject of chemistry, but science in general, and the notion of a hypothesis; a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.Part of our research, development and innovation programme in the area of energy system architecture is based on formulating hypotheses based on the limited absolute evidence and facts we have about the future, together with varying probable outcomes. Through a long term and repetitive programme of technical platform development we progressively test our hypotheses against the ever-changing real world of energy transition. In this way, step by step we are refining our strategies and independent and unbiased insight about how best to guide our clients in making the right choices.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/233871/image/large-29fce98953dcafa409a10cfd99039b45.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/233871">A key characteristic to avoid is that of bias. Where we believe in our own ideas (or indeed those of others) without any level of scepticism we are likely to be blinded by bias. This will lead us to derive a solution that is unlikely to be fit for the long term.To remove bias demands that we shed our technical egos, we need to stop engineering everything over and over again in the name of ‘bespoke’ and invest in progressive development. We also need to shift our perspective of how a yacht should be configured. The ultimate ‘yacht of the future’ will be very different in proportions, form and technical backbone than those of today. And through innovation it will also do more, while consuming less.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228573/image/large-3184c9dd9a5827dfb4a306bc80cf062f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228573">These are exciting times to be a naval architect, the opportunity to lead rather than follow is in front of all of us, we just need to transition our range of skills.

Designing a superyacht that challenges industry norms requires not just creativity, but also a deep understanding of the market. This is precisely the approach taken by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6600" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Isola Corvus Ltd. (Company)">Isola Corvus</a>, when they conceived the idea for the Velarca 135—a 41-metre yacht that merges the allure of motor yachts with the elegance and sustainability of sailing yachts.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/326252/image/large-c00ed26e9e250bf40ef13dc2fe07429a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/326252">SuperYacht Times sat down with founder Sami Lehtonen and Jarkko Härmälä of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6600" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Isola Corvus Ltd. (Company)">Isola Corvus</a> to find out more about the inspiration behind the Velarca 135 sailing yacht concept and the future plans for the company.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216497/image/large-3d9dd95f0c4dd4f965ac0f5c0ea44a80.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216497">The Velarca 135 yacht was first unveiled in 2022 as a sailing yacht that combines luxury with style and most importantly, takes into account the growing demand for sustainable yachting. Reflecting on the origins of the Velarca 135 concept, Sami revealed that the idea emerged on a sunny day in August 2021 in Helsinki’s Kaivopuisto Park. Accompanied by an advertising agency and several bottles of champagne, the team were spurred by a bold vision. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/242232/image/large-8fd4ddc1c0153b0949334960523201b4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/242232">“We knew that motor yachts dominate the superyacht market with over 90 percent market share, which also means they produce most of the greenhouse gas emissions. So, we decided there and then to start selling sailing yachts to the motor yacht clientele,” Sami explained. This marked not only the birth of Velarca 135 but also the formation of a business model that would allow <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6600" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Isola Corvus Ltd. (Company)">Isola Corvus</a> to enter the superyacht market, without a designer or shipyard already in place.One of the cornerstones of the Velarca 135 design is sustainability, a principle that Sami was determined to uphold without compromising on luxury. “Sustainability is a tricky word,” elaborated Sami. “Many luxury products have a longer lifespan because they are valuable, beautiful, and timeless. When asked about the design process, Sami recounted the strategic decisions that guided the yacht’s development. “We consulted well-known yacht brokers in the Mediterranean to understand what their customers prefer in terms of yacht size and amenities. We also prioritised safety and simplicity, ensuring that even a less experienced crew could manage the yacht with ease.” The design was then handed over to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/164" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Beiderbeck Designs (Company)">Beiderbeck Designs</a>, who were given full artistic freedom. “In my opinion, the result was not only quite clever and practical, but also very pretty,” Sami added.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216494/image/large-d23ae9f9a161e73b660e7a5c5bafcac6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216494">The Isola Corvus vision and challengesAs a relatively new player in the superyacht industry, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6600" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Isola Corvus Ltd. (Company)">Isola Corvus</a> brings a fresh perspective, heavily influenced by Sami’s background in offshore racing. “We dared to do what we wanted without asking too many questions,” Sami explained, reflecting on the fearless approach that has driven the company forward. One significant innovation influenced by Sami’s racing experience was the rig design. “I was never a fan of the Chinese gybes, as the boom had the potential to cause damage or injury by slamming from side to side when jibing; so I wanted to eliminate the risks of this happening completely. The Velarca rig is simply a boomless, rope free, two masted solution, with two rolling and self-tacking jibs on each mast and a third jib in an inverted position between the two masts.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216499/image/large-e6b6b2919ec59af2b44f6642ef4ec58f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216499">Despite their innovative spirit, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. “We didn’t have a designer or shipyard partner in the beginning, both of which are must-haves to even launch a design,” Sami admitted. However, a fortunate connection with Finnish superyacht hydraulics entrepreneur Nadine Proctor opened doors, leading to a partnership with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/164" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Beiderbeck Designs (Company)">Beiderbeck Designs</a>. “By January 2022, the design was ready to launch,” Sami recalled. The next challenge was finding a suitable shipyard, a process that ultimately led them to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5728" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Knierim Yachtbau (Company)">Knierim Yachtbau</a> in Germany, known for their expertise in building lightweight sailing yachts.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216493/image/large-b5f0be620cd828b3d8d58c4e1938e36a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216493">“Velarca is structurally more challenging to build than a motor yacht, so the shipyard must have experience in building demanding lightweight sailing yacht designs,” Sami explained. He also highlighted Knierim’s involvement in the wind power industry as an added benefit that aligns with their sustainability goals.&nbsp;However, marketing a yacht that blurs the lines between motor yachts and sailing yachts presents its own set of challenges. Sami remains optimistic that the industry will eventually create a new category for such crossover yachts.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216498/image/large-29b199b0e1cba3a4051ab412d7aadfa4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216498">The future of sailingLooking ahead, Sami sees potential for the superyacht industry to follow the commercial shipping sector’s lead in adopting sail-assisted designs and alternative fuels like methanol. “The commercial sector can’t afford to over-engineer but seeks straightforward solutions to bring down emissions. The superyacht sector, however, seems more willing to experiment with alternative fuels,” Sami observed. He believes that the industry will eventually recognise the value of sailing and sail-assisted designs as viable solutions for reducing emissions.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6600" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Isola Corvus Ltd. (Company)">Isola Corvus</a> is already planning its next project, though details remain tightly under wraps. “Offering something different is paramount to us because we are still far from being a household name in this industry. Velarca 135: Bridging the gap between motor yachts and sailing yachts

With over 30 years of experience in designing both sail and motor yachts, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1989" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Marcello Penna (Company)">Penna</a> brings a wealth of expertise to this project. He describes the yacht as “tailored for an expert owner, featuring a sustainable design with a hybrid battery pack and generators that support hotel mode and management services while anchored in marine protected areas.”He further adds that “these features not only comply with but anticipate the most stringent environmental regulations for the foreseeable future.” The yacht will also obtain <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bureau Veritas (Company)">Bureau Veritas</a> Charter class certification.Luxury and comfort onboardDesigned for cruising at all latitudes and equally suitable for chartering, this in-build explorer yacht is set to accommodate 12 guests across six staterooms, each with its own private bathroom. She will also provide quarters for eight crew members, including the captain.The owner’s suite will be prominently positioned forward on the main deck and features a private terrace. On the lower deck is a full-beam VIP stateroom. The four guest staterooms will be conveniently located on the lower deck, enhancing privacy and comfort. On the bridge deck, adjacent to the wheelhouse, are the captain’s quarters. When required, the &nbsp;versatile massage room on the upper deck can double as an extra single stateroom, suitable for either crew or guests.The yacht’s exterior and interior convivial spaces are expansive and bathed in natural light. State-of-the-art generators and a hybrid battery pack, fully encapsulated for safety, ensure complete electrical autonomy for navigation and anchorage in protected marine areas. This article has been written by James Roy of&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral Naval Architects</a>&nbsp;for SuperYacht Times.The design of a yachts hull would seem, to the observer, as a highly specialised domain. Can you give us some insight to what is involved?Hull form design can range from the simple to the complex in any vessel, superyacht or otherwise. How simple or complex one makes it really depends on the driving aims of a number of outcomes that need to be achieved in the final design. These typically include propulsive efficiency, comfort (seakeeping), construction considerations and practical alignment to the design intent of the overall vessel / its functionality. It is possible to address all of these in a simplistic manner, or equally with a high degree of engineering effort. Also, in the real world of commerce, time, budget and other resources play a role.In general, for a superyacht there is no one overall factor that dominates to the detriment of others. Some projects have a bias one way or another, but achieving an optimised result that delivers the very best result across all of these outcomes demands a rigorous process. Whilst not complex per se, it requires a high degree of insight via experience and grounding in a clear strategic approach to leverage the best result, when set against real-world commercial constraints.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/325411/image/large-824189ecde9fb6967bcd09e46988355a.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/325411">It must be daunting to start with a blank sheet of paper, where do you even begin?Any notion of a blank sheet of paper is a misnomer. While every project results in a unique hull form that is specific to that design, one’s ability to optimise quickly, effectively in terms of results and with low technical (and therefore commercial) risk, means that we always begin via examination of our hull form family. By family I mean the many hulls that have been tested and / or proven in service, and the accompanying insight derived from the experience in their development. For <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral</a> that spans about thirty years of development reaching back into our heritage in specialised commercial vessels as well as superyachts. Marry to this a collaborative approach in development, with an experienced shipyard partner(s), and also model test institutions, the sum of the collective knowledge that can go into a new hull form is potentially very significant.&nbsp;It would be easy to select a ‘parent hull’ and simply manipulate and develop to achieve a good result on a new project, that is a fairly straightforward process. We take a more strategic approach aimed at the progressive development of a hull form family. That progressive development ensures that we are, over each successive generation, investigating, pursuing and employing technical developments that embody an engrained evolution of knowledge, data driven outcomes, and insight.There are exceptions to this. In more ‘blue-sky’ projects where novel or experimental fundamental technology is being explored then a ground up approach where you “challenge everything” is taken, but this is not suitable for conventional projects.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/325412/image/large-7cf075d26588c70a0a160061ddd73616.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/325412">In this evolutionary approach could the use of Artificial Intelligence and other computational methods be employed?The short answer to that is yes. The advancement of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) over the last half century (yes that long) has meant that the exploration of strategic evolutions has become faster, more reliable and more cost effective, certainly in the regime of propulsive efficiency. It has advanced the state of the art into progressively smaller steps because the state of the art is now very mature. The use of other computational methods encompassed by AI have and are bringing a new dimension to the state of the art. Ultimately they will serve to enable us to find new innovations, which in a mature state of the art environment, become progressively more demanding in time and resources to find. I personally think the real task for any AI, is to challenge the biases and paradigms that are an inherent part of being human. AI can help challenge and expand these paradigms by presenting data-driven perspectives that may differ from traditional viewpoints, potentially leading to innovative solutions and advancements. I do not prescribe to the idea that AI will make the human redundant, it will accelerate our abilities and augment our creativity.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/325410/image/large-b2b16fcaaaffa7251bf58f189c4dc3bd.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/325410">How would you describe&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral</a>'s hull form family and what developments are you working on?Our family is broad and diverse, and whilst it has a core focus on large displacement hulls, it also encompasses smaller families with different areas of focus, leveraging much from our heritage in other marine markets.&nbsp;Central to the family tree is our ‘Type-D’ series, now in its 10th generation with one keel of over 110m currently under construction. From that central family other variants are in development for different areas of the market in which we are active, our ‘Type-De’ series, specifically optimised for the use of azimuthing thruster propulsors (pod) with one keel over 110-metre currently under construction and a 130-metre in development. Our Type-L family addresses a smaller region of the market, namely the sub-85 metre load line in the 80/90 metre range, with the latest 80 metre variant having its keel laid this summer. Finally our Type-S series is a very refined and elegant design family incorporating integrated propulsion systems, the first 45 metre variant of which has been delivered from Turkey. SES Yachts: A 50-year journey of custom crafted excellence

"Originally, I was looking for a motor catamaran for my personal use. After exploring different motor catamarans and test-driving some of them, I couldn't find one that met my expectations," he shares, "I'm 1.95 metres tall, so from my point of view most of the catamarans are much too small to be comfortable, especially on long voyages.” Wuttke, therefore, took matters into his own hands.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/325169/image/large-395eb329754ee0c2222a95115f313e15.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/325169">"I started conceptualising my own ideas and commissioned several yacht designs," Wuttke recalls. The team ultimately took shape, with Olaf Steckstor joining as Director of Development and Sales. Since opening its doors to superyachts in 2022, the Montenegrin refit facility <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> has gone from strength to strength, quickly earning a reputation as a gold standard refit facility in the region. This winter, the shipyard has its busiest season yet, completing 26 refit projects ranging from major refits, to in-water maintenance and it is already receiving a myriad of requests for the upcoming 2024/25 winter season. We recently sat down with Mr. Zoran Stanjevic, Director of Operations and Executive Director, to find out a bit more about the capabilities of the shipyard and its plans for the coming refit season. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/323248/image/large-8674781d282e47b57f23556d9980b65f.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/323248">The FacilitiesDespite the rich history of its location, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> set to work with its sights firmly focused in the future. The superyacht service facility is led by international professionals in close collaboration with the local workforce, giving bulletproof service based on its trained team's years of experience. Local craftsmen are particularly renowned for their expertise in both woodwork and steel, and last season saw a number of complex projects coming to completion, such as the rebuild of the classic motor yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1737" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kalizma50.29m (164'12&quot;)Ramage & Ferguson1906">Kalizma</a>.&nbsp;The yard provides top-notch equipment and materials, ensuring that the superyacht service facility is always stocked with the highest quality product. Additionally, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> has an extensive network of European suppliers, allowing them to offer a wide range of options and solutions to meet the unique needs and preferences of each client. Over the course of the past two years the company has expanded its onsite offering, with a 180 x 34-metre floating dock able to accommodate the largest superyachts in the global fleet, or two superyachts for in water maintenance side by side.&nbsp;The facility is already home to a 720 tonne travel hoist, 8,000 square-metres of warehouses and workshops and 30,000 square metres of hard standing. This season, a company also acquired a new 350 tonne boat trailer lift, enabling them to move more vessels onto the hard standing area. “We can currently accept 16 yachts on the hard but by the upcoming season will be able to accommodate 22 as we are expanding our capacity”, explains Zoran. “The aim is not to overcrowd the yard, but to ensure that each project can be stored in its own scaffolding structure and wrap, with a good amount of space between projects to ensure the safety of all yachts and workers at the facility. We have a major focus on safety and regulations and have been working closely with both <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1457" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="RINA (Company)">RINA</a> and the class societies to ensure that all of our projects are entirely compliant,” he adds. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/267271/image/large-8cee98b562e723533e15d276570e6783.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/267271">Season Success StoriesThe 2023/24 season was a great success story for the shipyard, completing all of its 26 projects on time and to specification. “Among our recent projects, we are proud to count notable vessels such as the 43.3-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1666" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ice Lady43.3m (142'1&quot;)Helsingfors1959">Ice Lady</a>, the 49.9-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5918" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Endeavour 249.9m (163'9&quot;)Rossinavi2017">Endeavour 2</a>, and the 38.6-metre Jetsetter, all of which have chosen our yard for their needs once again.”&nbsp;In addition to these confirmed return projects, the yard also completed the refit of the world renowned 106.7-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a> superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4795" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Black Pearl106.7m (350'1&quot;)Oceanco2018">Black Pearl</a>, which has been a regular visitor to the yard since 2022. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4795" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Black Pearl106.7m (350'1&quot;)Oceanco2018">Black Pearl</a> was the first yacht to have been refitted at the yard and demonstrates the team’s capabilities in working on complex systems, with the superyacht well known for its technological innovations.&nbsp;Another example is the four month refit recently completed aboard the 50.29-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1737" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kalizma50.29m (164'12&quot;)Ramage & Ferguson1906">Kalizma</a>. The 118-year-old motor yacht came to the yard for a maintenance upgrade and had her three main engines and two diesel generators completely overhauled, with the team facing the challenge of limited space onboard. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> team also repaired her steering system and rudder shaft, in addition to a number of other maintenance jobs, which were made more complex by the age of the vessel.&nbsp;Finally, the yard is particularly proud of the refit of the racing trimaran Paradox 3. The yacht’s unique design and shape makes the task of lifting her from the water safely, and preparing it for service challenging. However, with the precise manoeuvring of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> experts and working closely with the boat captain this project was successfully completed once again. After the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> team performed highly precise work on Paradox3’s new rigging parts this beautiful trimaran was ready to set sail again, onwards to new races and new victories. It further defines the requirements for obtaining tourism chartering licences, which include the involvement of a licensed maritime tourism agent or yacht management company, a signed contract between the agent and the charterer, secure marina-to-yacht access, and an onboard safety guide tailored for tourism charters.Additionally, the regulation details the procedures for obtaining a tourism trip permit within Saudi Arabia's Red Sea waters, including mandatory documentation such as passenger information, sailing destinations, and the chartering contract.Regarding water toys, the regulation requires obtaining the necessary approvals and licences for activities such as recreational fishing, diving, and other similar pursuits. It mandates a clear usage guide for all water-based activities, a comprehensive response plan outlining rescue and first aid procedures, the provision of life jackets, and designated activities for children.The regulation also mandates the issuance of required licences, sets specifications for chartering yachts, and ensures that all safety and environmental protection measures are upheld on board.
