The Dutch-based shipyard Royal Huisman has unveiled their 100-metre sailing yacht concept Wing 100. The innovative yacht focuses on sustainability and is a collaborative effort from some of the biggest names in the industry.
Wing 100 is a true sailing yacht and features exterior design and naval architecture by Dykstra Naval Architects with interior design by Mark Whiteley Design. The ground-breaking concept is constructed from aluminium, and unlike heavy sail assisted motor yachts, she can easily and quickly be deployed.
The Wing 100 yacht has been conceived to appeal to not only sailing yacht owners but motor yacht owners who are looking to minimise their environmental footprint. The Royal Huisman- designed superyacht will also retain the highest standards of amenity and comfort as a motor yacht.
“Sustainability is crucially important for all of us and for future generations. Yacht owners and the yachting industry obviously want to contribute by reducing environmental impact and by limiting the use of valuable natural resources. It is a fact that the level of achievement resulting from these efforts can vary greatly,” said Royal Huisman CEO Jan Timmerman.
The new ‘supersized sailing yacht’ also features a highly advanced rig by Rondal. The wing masts have airfoil profiles and are free standing, which means they rotate to provide very powerful, integrated airfoils with the sails. The shape of the airfoil can also be easily and remotely adjusted to maximise or reduce power. 
As the wing masts have no free-standing rigging or deck clutter, the space on the deck is cleaner and safer. The remote controlled wing masts also ensure fast energy-efficient sailing, and provide a comfortable experience for all onboard.
The main deck features interior dining for up to sixteen guests, with an outside bar and lounge. Further alfresco dining can be found aft, alongside a range of other amenities. Wing 100 has extensive deck space aft with stairs leading to a large beach club and swim platform. All three decks are connected by a guest elevator as well as by stairs.
Wing 100 offers bespoke and calm spaces for her owners with family in mind. She offers accommodation for up to fourteen guests, across her owner’s suite, VIP suite and a further five guest staterooms as well as a stateroom for a nanny or teacher.

The Wing 100 yacht will fit amongst the Royal Huisman fleet and would be a top-tier yacht in this elite group. She will sit amongst the 90-metre Athena and Sea Eagle II, as well as the 85-metre New World Sloop, Project 410 that is currently under construction in Vollenhove, the Netherlands.
Thanks to her efficient and easy to deploy rig, Wing 100 will consume less than 20 percent of the energy required by an equivalent sized conventionally powered motor yacht. Under sail, 200 kilowatts can be produced by the hydro generator, which is equivalent to over 40,000 litres of fuel saving a year.
