Ocean Safety’s involvement in the leisure marine market has grown enormously in recent years and covers a broad base of water use, ranging from ribs through to Round the World ocean racing and cruising yachts and powerboats. The company offers a complete service for marine retail outlets, production boatbuilders and refit yards, sailing schools and charter companies.
Following 5 years of successful sponsorship working with the Royal Ocean Racing Club, Ocean Safety has just increased their commitment by sponsoring the IRC Rating System. They previously sponsored the RORC’s mid-Channel racing mark and their range of specialist safety products and services now makes them a perfect partner for the RORC IRC programme, both in the UK and worldwide.
Ocean Safety has worked with competitors and race organisers as technical advisors on both the supply and purchase of compliant safety equipment, for a number of events such as the Volvo Ocean Race, The Vendee Globe, Clipper and RORC regattas. Just ahead of the start of the Volvo Ocean Race, Ocean Safety was contracted by the Volvo race organisers to train all the teams on the compulsory sea survival course, which was tailored to specific demands and issues the crews could expect to encounter.
This comprehensive package for the Volvo teams sees the servicing team from Southampton head to Singapore in January to carry out mid-race servicing on the competitor’s liferafts and Jonbuoy recovery modules.
Ocean Safety’s own brand, Jonbuoy, continues to grow with the expansion of this inflatable product line. Alongside Jonbuoy, Ocean Safety has further developed the complete Kru range of lifejackets, providing designs to accommodate the requirements of leisure, commercial and military markets. Kru ensures that the lifejackets in the range exceed regulatory requirements in terms of fully inflated buoyancy, at the same time offering a wide range of accessories.
Further information can be found at the Kru website www.krulifejackets.com. This is a dedicated informative new website, providing technical information on every lifejacket within the range, together with the likely area of use and recommended accessories.
Fully qualified and experienced staff at the Ocean Safety branches in Southampton, Plymouth and Glasgow service and repair both leisure and commercial liferafts, lifejackets, survival suits, EPIRBs, SARTs, fire extinguishers and breathing apparatus.
The new in house Training Department is currently developing product awareness courses for both commercial operators and leisure yachtsman to offer improved information on marine safety equipment and its operation.
