The &nbsp;carbon-neutral system can generate up to 100kW of electricity. This allows the vessel to operate its propulsion engines and diesel generator inactively, thus significantly extending the duration it can spend at anchor without relying on diesel fuel.The second major development has come from another <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/224" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2024">Monaco Yacht Show</a> exhibitor, the Dutch shipyard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a>, which launched the 118.8-metre Feadship 821 earlier this year. Project 821 distinguishes itself as the first ever superyacht powered entirely by hydrogen, aligning with Feadship's commitment to developing "net zero" yachts by 2030. A key example of this is <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef Yachts</a> with their advanced solar power technology, used throughout their lines but most particularly in their ECO series. This year, the Polish builder is exhibiting one of their newest hulls from the Eco series, the 24.5-metre 80 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> Power Eco.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a>’s Solar catamarans harvest power from the solar panels, fitted onto the tops and sides of the yacht, for a more eco-conscious and efficient cruising experience. In-house designed and manufactured by the shipyard, the solar panels are state-of-the-art. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef Yachts</a> was also one of the first companies to integrate solar panels in the curved carbon bimini roofs of its Eco yachts.&nbsp;While solar panels are a major part of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a>’s sustainable development, the yard has also developed a series of electric catamaran’s and is currently construction the first <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> Zero Cat. In 2022 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5877" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Water Revolution Foundation (Company)">Water Revolution Foundation</a> was joined on stage by key companies from yacht construction and design, to discuss the invaluable importance of collaboration across the industry. The goal of this discussion was to demonstrate how important it is for top companies to share their findings with smaller ones, to enable the entire industry to innovate faster and reach the 20% reduction in emissions by 2030. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/322484/image/large-f00ff66d091b7f2dba7cf4d7702e50a5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/322484">Since that pivotal event, a number of projects have come to light with this open-source mentality, and a very important one is the 69-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/34" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vitters Shipyard (Company)">Vitters</a> sailing yacht, Project Zero by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/15" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vripack (Company)">Vripack</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/230" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dykstra Naval Architects (Company)">Dykstra Naval Architects</a>. This superyacht, which is due for delivery next year, aims to be powered entirely without fossil fuels, a goal that necessitated a comprehensive reevaluation of the design approach using human-centred design techniques.The yacht's domestic power is designed to be supplied by energy generated through sailing and solar input, with the efficiency of the hull and the design of hydro-generating thrusters playing crucial roles.&nbsp;The project team tackled the energy challenge by dividing it into four key areas: harvesting, storing, saving, and managing energy. This approach was supported by extensive data collection from various yachts to capture real-world operational profiles, providing insights into energy usage patterns, such as the frequency of showers by guests. This data analysis led to the implementation of new solutions, such as installing sensors in lighting systems to reduce energy waste. Another significant innovation is the use of three centimetres of cork insulation beneath a Tesumo deck made of sustainable wood, which replaces conventional fillers and enhances thermal efficiency.&nbsp;All research from Project Zero is being published on FoundationZero.org, an open-source technology platform, which aims to share findings with the superyacht industry, broader maritime sectors, and beyond. The project's contributions to hydrogenation, routing, and sail-related technologies will be shared openly with the aim of accelerating innovation across the industry. This allows for areas within the lower deck to be utilised for guest space, and has enabled <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> to integrate the Fuel Cell Reformer system, while still maximising the interior spaces available for the owner.&nbsp;The vessel’s interior configuration has been developed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Zuccon International Project</a>. It is spread over five offset decks, creating spaces with particularly airy volumes that connect to the outside, while minimising partitions and barriers. The result is a number of unique spaces with a spacious saloon to aft and a dining area amidships arranged across two levels. This disruptive internal architecture is, however, imperceptible from the external profile. The yacht’s exterior maintains a clean and essential line, in perfect <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> style.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/78" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lissoni & Partners (Company)">Piero Lissoni</a>’s interior perfectly complements the unique deck system. The design team has reinvented classical elements in a contemporary fashion, utilising coffered ceilings and dark wooden walls to imbue the space with an elegant atmosphere. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/321816/image/large-49219955f822e58fa468b9e74891ae01.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/321816">Unprecedented Interior SpacesEach of the five interior decks are arranged on two levels, creating a horizontal axis of spaces which is a significant diversion from the traditional vertical deck arrangement. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> team has employed large glass surfaces throughout the interior to interconnect the spaces with each other, and with the surrounding environment. The introduction of this alternating high and low concept is a unique feature of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/11733" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Almax49.99m (164'0&quot;)Sanlorenzo2024">Almax</a>. It creates an effect of expanded onboard spaces that communicate with each other with minimal steps. This generates a naturalness in movement onboard, continually revealing new perspectives of the surrounding waters. Incredibly, the redistribution of interior spaces has no impact on the yacht’s exterior design, which remains sleek and elegant. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/321817/image/large-64190d04e9019af259cc3088cdf4f831.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/321817">The DecksFrom the aft, the superyacht’s guests are welcomed by the Ocean Lounge, which features three terraces, opening when at anchor to create a 135 square-metre beach on the water. This huge deck is home to a large swimming pool, to the aft of which is the swim platform, giving guests the closest possible connection to the ocean.&nbsp;This impressive terrace leads through to a large full-beam saloon called the Beach House, with steps leading up to the dining area. The stairs connecting the internal spaces are flanked in glass, allowing light to flood from the large floor to ceiling windows, throughout the decks. This feature also helps to connect the unique areas, such as the gym and spa on the lower deck, to the second saloon on the main deck.In addition to the Beach House and spa area, the lower deck is home to two VIP and two double staterooms, which can be configured as either doubles or singles, both with Pullman beds. The entire lower deck, both in the lounge and stateroom areas, is characterised by a uniform colour palette &nbsp;and material consistency, with dark wood for ceilings and panelling contrasting with the light-coloured flooring. However, in the sleeping area, the vertical cladding is treated with light wood to enhance the light coming through the vertical portholes.From the lower deck, guests are led up the stairs to the main onboard living areas, with the saloon and dining room. Like the Beach House, the main deck saloon is surrounded by ocean views, with glass doors leading out to the aft deck, enhancing the connection to the yacht’s environment. Looking to the fore from the main saloon, the view through the yacht meets the dining room, located on the lower level on the main deck. The dining area is exceptionally designed, with a 3.7 metre ceiling height and visual perspectives to both the Beach House on the deck below, and the main deck saloon, out to the sea beyond.&nbsp;The main deck is also home to the full-beam owner’s suite, which has been decorated in a unique aesthetic with Japanese-style screens, dark wood walls and wallpaper. The master suite features two dressing rooms at its entrance, as well as a large ensuite bathroom. To the fore of the master suite is the yacht’s garage, housing a 7-metre tender, two jet skis, and the water toys. In this section of the deck, the Fuel Cells, the innovative technology powering the yacht’s hotel services with green energy, are also housed.The upper deck, which is accessed via an internal staircase, is home to both the yacht’s wheelhouse and a spacious deck to aft with an al fresco dining area and lounge. This deck has been designed with glass windbreak panels, which will allow the deck to be closed off in cooler climates, allowing guests to enjoy the outside no matter the weather.&nbsp;The final space aboard the yacht is the sun deck, featuring 360-degree panoramic views. This revolutionary system allows for the production of up to 100 kW of energy, with propulsion engines and diesel generators turned off. The system is completely carbon neutral, and significantly extends the time the yacht can remain at anchor without diesel fuel consumption, covering about 90% of a superyacht’s typical usage time with zero emissions and reducing annual emissions by 20 to 30%.&nbsp;With engines and generators off, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/11733" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Almax49.99m (164'0&quot;)Sanlorenzo2024">Almax</a> will offer her guests the rare luxury of silence when at anchor. At the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/229" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Genoa International Boat Show - 2024 - 64th">64th Genoa International Boat Show</a>, the ‘Yachting in Figures’ report produced by the Italian Marine Industry Association's Market Intelligence and Research Department highlighted the continued economic success of the Italian yachting industry, with a turnover of €8.33 billion in 2023. The full reveal of the design will be showcased at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/224" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2024">Monaco Yacht Show</a> in Port Hercule this week.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/329161/image/large-3c94413ea8e36b015f5a4eda8ba6fca9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/329161">“We’ve drawn inspiration from &nbsp;automotive design philosophies and engaged in extensive discussions with naval architects to push boundaries while ensuring a highly functional vessel, with top ocean-going capabilities and maximum safety onboard,” explained Ben Julian Toth, head of exterior design at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6603" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="STURGE & TOTH (Company)">Sturge &amp; Toth</a>.&nbsp;With a beam of 8.7-metres and a volume of 499 GT, the yacht is capable of hosting as many as 12 guests across her four VIP staterooms with Pullman berths and master suite. With versatility at the forefront of her design, the Gladius 52 yacht offers a variety of configurations within her adaptable interior layout.&nbsp;Furthermore, Gladius 52 is composed of a full displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Aesthetically, the Gladius 52 is defined by her harmonious collection of curves, sculpted surfaces, and balanced proportions, along with her exploration-oriented traits. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/329162/image/large-b54637ea3a9ce46b3db1e46abeb0fb86.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/329162">She features an alfresco sky lounge located on her bridge deck, which allows for access to the sundeck above, where a bar, Jacuzzi, dining and lounge area provide further outdoor entertainment.Additionally, an extra level leads guests to the eagle’s nest situated near the yacht’s mast, and contains a sunbed with panoramic views 11-metres above sea level. This synergy of protective areas and panoramic inside-outside living spaces significantly enhances the overall onboard experience,” Toth added.&nbsp;Regarding her performance, the Gladius 52 has a speed of 16 knots, and when cruising at a speed of 10 knots, she has a range of 5,800 nautical miles.
