Sarment, the ultimate fine wine advisory service, was founded in 2008 to provide the upper echelons of the global UHNWI community with unprecedented access to the world of fine wine. The service was co-founded by serial Swiss entrepreneur Bertrand Faure Beaulieu, and long time friend and world renowned sommelier Philippe Messy.
The Sarment story can be traced back to one evening in 2004 when Philippe, then Head Sommelier at L'Etranger restaurant in London, recommended an intriguing wine to Bertrand – a New Zealand pinot noir. Fascinated with Philippe's encouragement to explore new wines, Bertrand then engaged him two years later to conduct an audit of his own 4,000 bottle wine collection. As their relationship developed based on Philippe's unbiased advice and privileged access to the world of fine wine, Bertrand realised that this was exactly what he wanted from a top wine service and struck upon the idea of providing a private sommelier service to a select few UHNWIs.
At the Monaco Yacht Show in September 2010, Sarment launched a comprehensive wine management offering specifically tailored to the requirements and challenges of large yacht ownership.
Commenting on the launch, Bertrand said: “Between 10-15% of our members are superyacht owners and it is quite baffling that there has always been a breakdown in service and value when it comes to the enjoyment of fine wines on board superyachts. Sarment Yacht Services is simply about combining Sarment’s unparalleled wine expertise with a dedicated service focusing on the unique lifestyle of superyacht owners. The ultimate in fine wine service will now also be available for the ultimate superyachts.”
