Solar power returns to the Principality

For the second year running, the Yacht Club de Monaco is set to host this contest for competitive solar-powered boats. The Solar1 Monte-Carlo Cup, which is being held in Monaco's Yacht Club, brings together experts and enthusiasts from the worlds of solar power, green technology and competitive sport and showcases 30 powerful, sun-driven vessels that have been created through inspirational designs and creative thinking.

“The solar power industry is growing rapidly and those of us in luxury yachting are very interested in how it develops. It is also an opportunity to get the new generation involved in this project, while at the same time communicating messages such as the importance of renewable energy sources to preserve our planet,” comments Sergei Dobroserdov, the man who initiated the project.

Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco, says: “It seems to me essential that we encourage any initiative in favour of the future of our industry. This technology being developed by a new generation of engineers suggests it could soon be applied to leisure boats, including the biggest yachts. A promising message for the future…”
