The 31.24-metre Southern Wind sailing yacht Nyumba has completed her maiden voyage with sea trials from Cape Town to the Mediterranean Sea. Nyumba was launched in December 2022 as the fourth hull in the successful SW96 series. Nyumba is a high-performance efficient cruising yacht with a specially tailored design that aligns with Southern Wind’s ‘Smart Custom’ philosophy. Nyumba’s interior and exterior design comes from the boards of Nauta Design, with naval architecture by Farr Yacht Design. The word ‘Nyumba’ is the Swahili word for home, and her owners have worked to make her a true home away from home. The main saloon amidship benefits from a sliding glass companionway hatch, large hull windows, and an expansive skylight that runs the length of Nyumba's coachroof. Created by Southern Wind, this design feature allows the lower section to be angled upwards to protect the garage from slamming on the waves in rough waters, while the upper section can still be positioned horizontally.Nyumba is the first yacht in the SW96 series to be equipped with a hybrid electric propulsion system and is engineered with BAE Systems to be fully compliant with IMO Tier III regulations. The carbon-fibre yacht is equipped with a single Steyr Motors engine.Photo: Rob Kamhoot Nyumba will now make her way to Cannes, where she will make her world debut and be available to view at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2023.
