Superyacht servicing and refit specialists, Orams Marine, have announced the completion of the first stage of their development plan at their Auckland-based yard. Construction on the project started in 2019, and included a $100 million investment.Stage one of the development has included extensive dredging, before installing a 12,000 square-metre hardstand, three 90-metre marine piers, a new 820 ton travel lift, a 85 ton lift, as well as an industry-leading water treatment plant. These additions have now tripled the capacity of the facility, establishing their presence as one of the leading superyacht refit and repair yards in the South Pacific.
David Rankin, Chief Executive of Eke Panuku Development Auckland, commented on the project, “It is great to finally see a big travel lift… knowing the terrific space that piece of equipment puts you in for getting not only the most domestic business available, but also critically for the country overall as it pitches you very competitively for the international superyacht market.” With the superyacht market continually expanding, CEO of NZ Marine Industry Association, Peter Busfield, added, “This provides a huge opportunity for Orams Marine and Auckland to try and capture some of that market.”
Stage two of the development plan is now underway, with an 85 ton work shed under construction to allow the 85 ton travel lift to drive in so work can be carried out under cover. It will also see extensive commercial buildings completed in the latter part of 2022, with a residential development to follow.
