Strong leads for New Zealand at China boat show

Shanghai trade commissioner Andrew White reports strong business leads from the New Zealand pavilion at the China International Boat Show (April 5-8).

Warwick Yacht Design, Maxwell Marine, High Modulus, Vectek and Diversified Products exhibited at the Shanghai show, which drew 350 companies from around the world.

The main market opportunity for the New Zealand boat industry is in the supply of design and components for domestic and international companies now manufacturing pleasure boats and yachts in China for international clients.

There is also growing interest in boating among wealthy Chinese consumers, though with little recreational infrastructure in place this market is still in its early stages of development. The creation of marina facilities is another area of business opportunity for New Zealand companies.

A highlight at the New Zealand pavilion was a lively networking function for 80 industry guests with performances by cultural groups Whitireia Performing Arts and Strike. Exhibitors are planning a return to the show in 2008.
