Thanks to this fractional propulsion system, the boat is able to move around using just one engine, a pair, or all three; thus allowing great flexibility, low consumption and different autonomy depending on the desired speed.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228900/image/large-bf30ff965920d87d1a520698d2c59431.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228900">This type of propulsion is an advantage over propeller propulsion because it is less sensitive to variations in the boat's weight and therefore more versatile. Award-winning French yacht designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/53" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Philippe Briand Ltd. (Company)">Philippe Briand</a> has unveiled the first renderings of his new 60-metre sailing yacht concept Kaze. Italy-based designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a> has unveiled the first renderings for a new 48.5-metre superyacht concept. The motor yacht was designed with a specific owner in mind who was looking for a more spacious design from his current 35-metre yacht.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/260720/image/large-2e9f6b915b88c880e8684f344ab2c08d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/260720">The strictly displacement hull measures 48.5-metres in overall length, which becomes 46-metres at the waterline. Her hull will be built from steel, while her superstructure will be made of aluminium, with an overall GT of approximately 490 tons.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/260722/image/large-ad92f30fb7bdee1f933f4bca4c394d66.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/260722">“The hypothetical profile of this 48-metre yacht is a ‘classic trending to modern’ style,” commented designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a>. “We were expressly asked for a semi-vertical bow and other specific choices such as large free areas in her flybridge. The relationship with the water is therefore mainly experienced through the large aft swim platform and its comfortable and inviting access to the sea.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/260718/image/large-0ff1a58fb8b29d9b60a500d43c0bbc18.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/260718">The owner requested a larger yacht around 50-metres that would allow them to better enjoy their large family during the summer holidays and had some very specific requests for her design. “There had to be large windows, the owner's suite had to be located on the main deck towards the bow, with the four guest and four crew cabins on the lower deck, and the captain's quarters had to be on the upper deck,” explained designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. She also has another 7-metre saloon on her upper deck. “Obviously, at this stage we haven't considered any furniture arrangements,” continued <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a>. “The numerous solar panels guarantee good energy autonomy, allowing everyone to enjoy moonlit evenings in a bay without the hum of the generators. But they also show concern for the environment, which is increasingly important to the new generations,” concluded <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 2020 is the brainchild of Fulvio Codecasa, who called me to collaborate on his futuristic project. Ferretti Group’s annual Convergence took place from March 14 to 17 in Courmayeur, situated at the foot of Mont Blanc.

<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> have unveiled two new sustainable models for 2022 with the 28-metre SD90/s and the 33-metre SP110. The semi-displacement SD90/s shuttle and the open coupé SP110 will be revealed at the September boat shows, with research put into lowering their environmental impact.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228910/image/large-945e5e7f4dbd650f8b98c4041f65331c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228910">The SD90/s was developed thanks to an exclusive partnership with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1981" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Siemens (Company)">Siemens Energy</a> on methanol fuel cells to make yachts more environmentally friendly. The SD90/s is the third model in <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo’s</a> popular semi displacement series that began with the SD96 and SD118. This new smaller model sees improvements to the stylish and technological research of the shipyard to create a more efficient yacht.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228917/image/large-4da3cc1b61d51f88b8f52c8bf480564c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228917">The SD90/s uses the same optimisation of energy as the SD96 with the help of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/53" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Philippe Briand Ltd. (Company)">Philippe Briand</a>. The geometric characteristics of the hull allow the boat to perform remarkably well both with hybrid propulsion between six and 10 knots, and with traditional propulsion at a maximum speed of 17 knots.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228920/image/large-1c663c53c2644898d9f1972b9855772d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228920">The external lines of the SD90/s come from the boards of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Zuccon International Project</a> who have combined sharp lines with surprising internal volumes. With two and a half decks, the SD90/s features an open flybridge and is configured with a lower deck and main deck. The bow area of the main deck is conceived as a partial full beam and characterises the volume of the owner's stateroom in an unusual way, providing a more spacious area inside compared to a traditional layout.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228921/image/large-f96057b6ea6a9cba52c836b3bbae2b12.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228921">The bow area can be adapted to meet the needs of the owner with two different configurations. The first version allows for a sunbathing area distributed across two decks while the second consists of tables, two sofas and a raised sunbathing area. The fly bridge is minimal, with a lounge and dining area and a very light T-top in line with the boat's volumes.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228924/image/large-2d2f85b5800f52ed2e46d91a5f6c1563.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228924">The interior design of the SD90/s comes from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5443" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Patricia Urquiola (Company)">Patricia Urquiola</a> who has used adaptable furnishings and configurations to allow for easy transformations. The layout of the saloon on the main deck makes it possible to have both a lounge and dining area, solutions typically found on larger yachts, thanks to the use of tables that can be transformed in height and comfortable sofas.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228926/image/large-a28ee278d82885b6f2e99fab63c66150.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228926">The materials used onboard have also been greatly considered, with lots of raw materials and alternative sources used. The wood panelling has been clad in cannulated Paper Factor and the sustainable terrazzo used in the bathrooms has been selected to ensure a lower environmental impact. As well as this, the saloon's bow wall is made of recycled glass and bio-resins have been used for the details of the ceilings and furnishings.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228915/image/large-c9dd79a165441890487f5c9f6b5f2509.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228915">Great attention has also been given to the sustainable hybrid propulsion system designed in collaboration with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1981" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Siemens (Company)">Siemens</a>. The SD90/s aims to offer high performance by optimising the power generated by her lithium batteries when sailing. The project was made possible by a collaboration between <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Bernardo Zuccon</a> for the exteriors, Tilli Antonelli at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> product development, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1206" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Marco Arnaboldi (Company)">Marco Arnaboldi</a> for the hull design, and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/78" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lissoni Associati (Company)">Piero Lissoni</a> for the interiors.The SP110 will be the first yacht in the ‘Smart Performance’ range with a vision for high performance with maximum energy efficiency. Thanks to a fractional propulsion system, the boat is able to move around using just one engine, a pair, or all three; thus allowing great flexibility, low consumption and different autonomy depending on the desired speed.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228908/image/large-0cd7367ede8c2cebca9bf516c459e3bc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228908">The hull of the SP110 has been optimised for use with hydro jet propulsion. &nbsp;This type of propulsion is an advantage over propeller propulsion because it is less sensitive to variations in the boat's weight and therefore more versatile. To further optimise consumption and performance lighter materials such as laminated glass have been used for the larger surfaces. The exterior design by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Zuccon International Project</a> also sees aerodynamic lines and a colour palette more typical for sports yachts to refer to the strong emotional character of this design. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228907/image/large-cebbd4579ed54a8dd91b5403a9587cf1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228907">"While respecting the stylistic features that have historically characterised this type of boat, such as the aerodynamic and extremely organic surfaces, with Tilli Antonelli, we arrived at a compromise: to conceive a boat dialogue between dynamism and a liveability that is not normally perceived onboats of this size." said Bernardo Zuccon of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Zuccon International Project</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228906/image/large-fe9e0ab7b9ef4cd33b3ececbc1407655.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228906">The SP110 is equipped with an energy recovery system that uses high-efficiency 6kW monocrystalline solar panels and lithium batteries that allow the boat to maintain hotellerie functions for a few hours without the use of generators. On the upper deck, the large sundeck deck is complemented by the wheelhouse overlooking the bow. The lowered deck allows the lower deck to be enjoyed from a view of the living area aft and the sea, while outside, from the deck aft, there is visual access to the lower lounge on the main deck. Under the flooring it is possible to place a tender that disappears completely from view allowing a total use of the spaces up to sea level.The design of the SP110 embodies Sanlorenzo's vision in which the founding principles of sustainability, comfort and exclusivity converge. This new design projects the shipyard into the future and completely moves away from conventional models in the same market segment. As well as this it sets a new benchmark for the models that will follow.
