Sunreef presents solar-powered eco option for 24m Sunreef 80 Power

Written by Laura Nicholls

Sunreef Yachts has expanded its range of eco catamarans to include an electric solar-powered version of its Sunreef 80 Power model which is available alongside the sailing catamaran, the Sunreef 80. Designed in house, the Sunreef 80 Power Eco uses solar cells that are mounted on any yacht surface with the option to be integrated into composite structures. 200m² worth of panels could collectively generate up to 40kWh. The energy stored will power the electric propulsion, house appliances and air conditioning for the yacht, which is to be made from sustainable alternative materials including natural, reclaimed or recycled fabrics.Sunreef 80 Power Eco yacht exterior designPhoto: Sunreef YachtsSunreef 80 Eco modelPhoto: Sunreef Yachts"It is vital that the industry follows the growing demand for more sustainable crafts. We are talking about the future of yachting and I know Sunreef Yachts can make a change. Sunreef Yachts Eco catamarans are a concept going far beyond electric propulsion systems. Everything on board: from batteries to fabrics and structural materials to water management - reflects a new yachting philosophy," said Francis Lapp, Founder and President of Sunreef Yachts.
