The 44-metre Sanlorenzo superyacht Lammouche has switched to biofuel. The superyacht, which is offered for charter with Burgess, has followed in the wake of a number of vessels within the maritime industry switching to HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) biofuel for the major reduction in CO2 emissions that it offers. Lammouche will be now be powered by the HVO Cristal Power XTL 100 from Fioul 83, which is 100 percent renewable as it originates from used cooking oil, treated with hydrogen and mixed with fresh cooking oil. Having the same chemical structure as traditional diesel fuels, it can be used without modification in current diesel engines. The decision has been made in collaboration with the superyacht owner, Captain Jean-Maxime Berthet and the crew, despite the fact that HVO is currently considerably more expensive than diesel.Biofuels took a centre stage at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, with a number of companies advertising their products within the Sustainability Hub, supported by the Water Revolution Foundation. HVO is already in use in many global industries, including the commercial maritime industry, where is used to power a number of tankers and ferries.
