SuperYacht of the Week: Alexandar V - ISA's latest gem

The most striking feature of Alexandar V – ISA 480, the latest from ISA Yachts, is the stern with staircases on each side that connect all of the decks to one another. From the back, the vessel looks like it contains a series of balconies. Another unusual feature of Alexandar V is the color of its hull, which is called “desert sand.” A light yellow tan shade, the designers diverted from the usual white or dark colored hull that you generally see on large steel motor yachts.

The exterior of the 48-metre yacht was designed by the late Walter Franchini after the ISA 470, while the interior was designed by architects Daniele Socci and Rita Luzzi, working closely with the owner and project manager Sandro Spaziani.

The interior design utilizes ebony, maple, and teak, along with leather and marble. The owner’s suite is located on the main deck and is extremely spacious. The walls are light maple, and the floors are ebony, as are the desk and some of the tables, which combine the ebony with leather. The double bed includes a leather headboard and a flat screen television. The carpet is white in contrast to the dark wood and leather and works as a compliment to the light maple walls.

The owner’s bath is also exceptionally spacious and is done in light maple and striking Arco Iris onyx on the countertops and floors, which is a beautiful “blonde” color. The his and hers sinks, tub, and toilet are in white, and the bath includes a Jacuzzi and a shower with Bisazza mosaics on its walls.

The main deck saloon is entered through French doors and contains four columns that are covered in brown leather. The furniture is done in white and brown shades with brown leather tables and sofas and chairs in white fabric and brown leather. The enormous area contains two sofas, a loveseat, and two chairs for seating that can accommodate all guests. A glass panel separates the lounge area from the dining area, and the glass has a picture of the boat etched within it.

The dining area contains floors of teak and furniture made of ebony, including a table that seats ten. The aft deck lounge area includes loveseats and chairs to seat eight. The main galley is between the owner’s stateroom and the dining area.

The lower deck contains four guest suites, as well as the crew’s quarters, a large captain’s suite, the crew’s mess, and the laundry room. Two of the guest suites are doubles, and two contain twin beds. All suites echo much of the design of the owner’s suite with maple walls and Arco Iris onyx in the bathrooms, although the suites are lighter overall without the contrasting ebony furniture.

The upper deck saloon is equipped with an entertainment system and large flat screen television. The colors and furniture are similar in style to the saloon on the main deck with sofas made of white fabric and brown leather. The VIP suite is the only cabin on the upper deck and is located toward the stern. It features a double bed and two desks in ebony with leather tops that are lighter in color. Like the owner’s suite, the bath includes his and hers sinks and utilizes the same beautiful Arco Iris onyx on the countertops and floors.

Also on the upper deck, the wheelhouse design is another unusual feature of the yacht, with a red leather sofa and red chairs. The navigation system is ergonomic with touch screen panels and is Lloyd’s Register-approved. Behind the wheelhouse is the pantry, powder room, and crew’s upper passage. Aft is a lounge area with couches and a dining table that seats ten.

The sun or fly deck contains a dining area near the bow, which is under an awning. It includes a dining table, white sofas, chairs, and a barbecue. The mid-sundeck area contains a bar with stools which are ingeniously built into the construction of the large Jacuzzi. Closer to the stern is a sunbathing area.

Alexandar V can reach a maximum speed of 16.70 knots and cruises at a speed of 15.50 knots. The yacht was launched at a party where hundreds of white and silver balloons were released and then, at the 2008 Monaco Yacht Show.
