SuperYacht of the Week: Burger Boat's Tò-Kalòn

Written by Merijn de Waard

In September 2006 Burger Boat Company announced the signing of the contract for a contemporary-styled 101ft (31m) enclosed bridge, high speed motor yacht, project Liberty. With a team consisting of Cor D. Rover as the exterior stylist combined with the talented Donald L. Blount & Associates engineering group and the highly acclaimed Burger Design Team, this boat promised to be absolutely incredible. Just over 2 years after the contract was signed the team had to pleasure to visit Tò-Kalòn at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and she didn’t disappoint.

Top priorities for the construction of Tò-Kalòn were the “need-for-speed” combined with world-class yacht quality. The unique hull design has both a hard and soft chine. With this combination, the hard chine provides the necessary lift to achieve higher speeds and the soft chine ensures comfortable sea-keeping qualities. Extensive use of lightweight materials and carefully calculated design and engineering parameters ensure the yacht is capable to reach a top speed of 27.8 knots.

The all aluminiumTò-Kalòn is powered by a pair of 2,400 hp MTU-M93 Common Rail marine engines, well-proven in Europe for reliable high speed performance. The fully ABS certified vessel has several unique features including a comprehensive ship’s monitoring and information system integrated with the entire vessel’s electrical power system.

The owners ofTò-Kalòn wanted a unique vessel, they loved the idea of having a one-of-a-kind vessel, unlike others docked at marinas and seen along the waterways. Having done their homework, they knew that Burger Boat Company, a custom yacht builder, was their right choice.

Tò-Kalòn's interior revolves around the Sapele paneling with accents of Sapele Pomele which flows throughout the main deck saloon and guest accommodations providing the perfect background for traditional furnishings.

Entering the main deck saloon through the electric sliding doors guests are welcomed by two full length antique mirrored panels with French wall sconces. The custom bar on starboard side raises and lowers from a seated position bar to a standing position bar. Forward of the saloon is the dining area, which is easily served from the galley forward on the main deck. Next to the galley is the laundry area, from where the crew has access to their cabins in the forward section on the lower deck.

The yacht features a beautiful centrally located open spiral staircase crafted from select Sapele veneers and hardwoods accented by a custom brass balustrade with antique bronze finish supporting the Sapele hardwood handrail.

The owner’s stateroom is located on the lower deck and aft of the stateroom are two separate bathrooms with shared shower. The walls behind the queen sized bed feature a scrolled pattern Marquetry. Forward of the owner’s stateroom are two additional guest cabins with ensuite bathrooms; one twin cabin and one double cabin.

On the upper deck we find the skylounge/pilothouse. The walls in this area are Sapele with Kaya and Ebony accents. The Sky Lounge features leather Chesterfield sofas and a domed ceiling which was painted by a New York artist in a motif embracing the Yacht’s name. On starboard is a very spacious desk area with book shelves and a flat screen television.

The Pilothouse is adjoining the skylounge and is finished in the same Sapele with Kaya and Ebony accents. The steering wheel is stainless steel with the controls, instruments, switches and electronics properly arranged. One Stidd 1200X helm chair covered with custom leather is installed for comfortable cruising. The teak covered aft deck includes lounge seats and a hot tub with sun pads.

Owned by an experienced yachting family from the United States, the owners are looking forward to entertaining family and friends during their many planned cruises.
