The Dutch shipyard ICON Yachts recently launched the latest addition to the ICON-family, the remarkable, brand new superyacht Maidelle. At 62 metres, this exquisite vessel was finished at the yard's extensive, state-of-the-art facilities in Harlingen, the Netherlands, where I received a personal tour of this stunning project, just days before her launch. Maidelle was delivered December 20th, in territorial waters under severe weather condition. She was able to withstand setbacks such as heavy snowfall, cold and heavy storms effortlessly.
Maidelle takes her place in a wonderful family of superyachts, following in the footsteps of the equally sized Icon and Baton Rouge. She sports similar levels of high quality with regards to design and craftsmanship, while remaining a distinct personality and individual style. ICON director Jen Wartena points out, that “M/Y Maidelle is by far the best out of a series of three, benefitting from all the lessons learned from the previous builds.”
Previously known as project Midlandia, the latest superyacht launched by ICON Yachts boasts an impressive exterior look. Designed by Redman Whiteley & Dixon, her silhouette shows shows the shapes of a classic motoryacht combined with the finesse of a contemporary look. Smooth curves, firm yet delicate lines and a crisp white hull and superstructure give Maidelle an exterior look that shows off her sparkling personality, while maintaining pleasantly modest.
A first for an ICON superyacht, Maidelle has an interior designed by the team of acclaimed Italy and UK-based Cristiano Gatto Design. Throughout her spacious decks, there is a classic ambiance, a perfect blend of smooth lines, exquisite materials and delicate schemes of warm colours and natural textures. All these ingredients are bountifully immersed in a lush high gloss finish, transforming Maidelle's interiors into dramatic yet intimate dwellings. Overall, there is a pleasantly luxurious feel throughout, soothing and vibrant.
A grand central lobby welcomes guests aboard, a warm ambiance with dark wooden floors and wall paneling, framed by a vibrant lighting scheme. These ingredients can be found in every interior space, with modern lines and minimalistic shapes mixed with natural materials. Colour schemes are based on warmth and sensuality, with dark chocolates, crèmes, caramels and off-whites forming the base tones. Added to that is a variety of textures, such as wicker leather and various woodgrains, resulting in an interior ambiance that is warm, inviting and undeniably luxurious.
Moving aft from the central lobby, there is a spacious main saloon, which consists of three main areas. Fore, the main dining boasts a formal ambiance for ample stylish lunches and dinners, with a large dining table easily seating a company of 12. From the main waving lighting fixture to the high-gloss surfaces and vibrant, well-balanced colour scheme, there is a pleasing sense of classic luxury. The overall ambiance has a sense of tranquility that is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese style.
The central lounge area in the main saloon offers a spacious, yet intimate area. This setting is perfect for a variety of social occasions, with the ambiance of the main dining extended throughout this area. A collection of large sofas and chairs invites guests to simply sit back, relax, enjoy each other's company and all the good things that Maidelle has to offer. Two private nooks port and starboard side, each with a coffee table and a set of comfortable armchairs, offer additional seating in a slightly more casual atmosphere.
Moving aft from the main lounge, one of Maidelle's surprising features can be found in the form of an airy aft lounge that can be transformed from a cozy interior area with long sofas and fresh blue carpeting, boasting an more playful design with patterned upholstery and curvy furnishing, to an outside area which easily combines lounge, bar and aft deck into one lovely extended entertainment area. The semicircular glass sliding doors are key here, either separating the aft lounge and half of the circular bar from the outside as an interior saloon or opening up this entire area into one large open space, blurring the lines between inside and outside living and entertaining.
The aft deck adds a large space, wide panoramic views and a big U-shaped sofa to the mix, turning Maidelle's main saloon and aft deck into a complete and versatile area with plenty of possibilities. Moving down from the aft deck, stairs lead towards the large stern bathing platform and beach club. The beach club features of a central lounge that consists of a set of inviting furniture and sunloungers, offering an intimate setting for ample social occasions. Hidden behind frosted glass walls are a large gym, guest bathroom and watersportsroom.
Fore on the main deck, the owner's quarters can be found, consisting of a private lobby, sublime stateroom and lounge areas and a large full beam en suite with large tub and big separate showering area. The overall feel of these master quarters are spacious yet intimate, true to Maidelle-style, with a design scheme similar to the main saloon. Cremes and off-whites are tastefully combined with dark chocolate and caramels, the delicate natural textures of luxury woods and the glamorous high gloss finishing adding luxurious elegance throughout.
Ample natural light flows into the master stateroom, courtesy of large windows found on either side, so both the port side bedroom area and the lovely private lounge starboard side are framed by light, perfectly complimenting the elegance of this room.
Upstairs, an observation lounge fore allows guests to enjoy dramatic panorama views in a luxurious ambiance. With a games table, office and lounge areas at their disposal, the observation lounge is great for enjoying the views while being sheltered from the elements, but it is easy to imagine a variety of functions for this elegant space. Moving aft, the sky lounge offers a soft and slightly more informal ambiance, with a big, cozy L-shaped sofa in plush grey upholstery, framed by a set of armchairs, a games table setup and an additional lounge area.
This lounge forms the interior part of an area that can only be described as an extensive entertainment area, perfect for any social occasion, ranging from intimate cocktail hours to large dance-parties and everything in between. The exterior part of this area can be found in the form of a big aft deck with large round al fresco dining table and a spacious U-shaped aft lounge area. This deck space blends with the sky lounge to form one extended space for day to night entertaining and relaxing.
Upstairs, Maidelle's bridge deck offers a wonderful aft sun deck, with a big Jacuzzi, adjacent sun pads and sun loungers for guests' convenience. Privacy and vista views are just some of the ingredients that successfully turn this sun deck into an undeniable guest favourite. However, a superyacht of Maidelle stature simply is not complete without an entire deck dedicated to sunbathing and relaxation. Moving up from the bridge deck, a wonderful sun deck space offers a set of big sun pads, ample space and, again, panoramic views. In short, the bridge aft deck and sun deck areas combine to form one big space for all guests to soak up some sun, enjoy the fantastic views and all the good things that Maidelle has to offer.
Maidelle offers sumptuous accommodation for up to 12 guests. Aside from the master suite, and a VIP cabin on the upperdeck, 4 more luxurious guest cabins can be found on the lower deck. Two double suites and two twins boast the vessel's signature ambiance and style, supplied with every amenity to assure every guest's comfort during their stay onboard. Additionally, the twin suites each offer an additional pullman.
All guest cabins are elegantly designed, each with their own personal touches while remaining true to Maidelle's sense of refined elegance. All en suites are bright, light and offer a perfect atmosphere for one's daily rituals, each with a large separate shower area. A long guest corridor leads away from the guest cabins, right through the engineroom, and into the beachclub. With Maidelle's excellent sounds insulation, guests might never know the corridor cuts straight through the upper level of the engineroom.
Aside from luxurious amenities, splendid style and ample guest comfort, Maidelle also scores with regards to performance. Captain Donald Heath states that he “is very pleased with the performance of the Maidelle, especially from an engineering perspective.” In his experience, she is “very easy to handle and sails perfectly.”
Overall, this magnificent ICON superyacht combines elegance and luxury with personality, style and ample of warmth. She boasts a great ambiance and style, undoubtedly comforting and pampering every guest onboard. The superyacht offers a total package of luxury and amenities, anything that you might expect from a superyacht such as Maidelle, while remaining surprising and fresh. She is currently on her way to warmer places, where she undoubtedly will please many guests for years to come.
