Currently undergoing sea trials in New Zealand, Performance Yachts (Performance) launched their first PY-100 superyacht in early February of this year. The PY-100 is the largest undertaking to date for this relatively young company. The Performance design goal for the PY-100, christened Liara, was challenging to say the least.
From the start of the project, Performance wanted to create a light/moderate displacement superyacht that would perform respectably at the Superyacht Rallies while not compromising a comfortable sailing experience, such as when fast cruising in light airs in the Mediterranean or perhaps during a trans-ocean passage, where she would likely encounter less than ideal conditions.
Some superyacht owners may already know of the PY-100’s little sister, the PY-65. The PY-65, also named Liara, was a winner of the Arc Race in 2002, the 2004 Nelson’s Pursuit Race and the 2005 Guadeloupe to Antigua Race. In the same year the PY-65 achieved first and second place finishes at Antigua Sailing Week. At the time of her launch, the PY-65 Liara was described by in Yacht World Magazine as, “an exciting high-performance yacht” that is “dinghy light on the helm” and has “excellent build quality”.
Based on an early showing in sea trials, the PY-100 will more than live up to the expectations created by her remarkable smaller sister! The lines and stylings of the PY-100 Liara come from the experienced team of Dixon Yacht Design (architects, exterior styling, interior design), Southern Ocean Marin (builders), and Robinson Marine Interiors (interior joiner).
Performance Yachts has a business model, developed by founder Adrian Nicolle, that is unique in the superyachting industry in that it provides superyacht owners, both original and subsequent, with a complete package of benefits never before available from one company. The PY-100 specifications are impressive and substantiate her early-on sea trail results. Her hull and deck are 85% carbon, a five spreader high modulus Southern Spars carbon mast, Future Fibers composite rigging, and a hydraulic lifting keel with ballast bulb that provides a draft of five meters (when raised the draft is just 3.5 meters).
When under the power of her Cummins QSB 305 Hp diesel engine and ZF285A transmission, her cruising speed is 10 knots (maximum 13 knots) with a range of 2,500 nautical miles. The onboard electrical kit consists of two 25kW Mastervolt diesel generators. Liara’s classifications consist of RINA Charter Class C; Maltese Cross HULL. MACH; Ych (MCA) MCA LY2 compliant.
Her exterior decks are uncluttered with ample space to sunbathe or enjoy the underway sunsets. Her interior designs are understated yet contemporary, with wood trim and natural textures and lighting throughout. Her designers have maximized living space without compromising functionality.
