Measuring 42.40 metres, the inaugural hull of the new explorer series from Italian shipyard SanLorenzo was launched earlier this year from the yard’s facilities in Viareggio, and was officially presented to the industry at the latest edition of the Monaco Yacht Show.
She features exterior design by the renowned Francesco Paszkowski, who has created a profile inspired by large exploration vessels whilst maintaining the unmistakable lines consistent of SanLorenzo with a high freeboard and bulwarks creating a sense of safety and purpose-built design. Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she features a distinctive moss green paint job, giving her a unique edge to her explorer aesthetic.
SanLorenzo tell that when designing the 460Exp range, three key factors were particularly emphasised as integral characteristics of the vessel: spaciousness on board, safety, and self-sufficiency. The brand state the combination of these factors “take the 460Exp beyond the usual limits associated with yachting, to bring the real meaning of adventure back to her owner: the exploration of far-off and beautiful destinations, with all the usual safety and comfort associated with a superyacht that combines the experience, craftsmanship and innovation of Sanlorenzo.”
With a Gross Tonnage of 460, inside the vessel boasts exceptional on board living spaces for guests to fully take advantage of. She accommodates up to ten guests over five spacious en suite cabins, the four guest cabins consisting of two double rooms and two twin rooms located on the lower deck and the opulent full beam master suite found on the main deck forward.
The interior design of all the cabins have a consistent, luxurious theme, with sophisticated plush carpets and large, comfortable beds teamed with clean and simple but effective decorative art pieces and furniture. Four crew cabins are also found on the lower deck.
The 460Exp’s owner was reportedly heavily involved with the interior design of the yacht. Throughout the rest of the vessel, her interior decor sees the utilisation of quality wood in classical shades such as mahogany and teak, and is matched with elegant, timeless furniture and intense coloured leathers that immediately make guests feel right at home and welcome.
This is clearly seen as soon as you enter into the large saloon found on the main deck, with large sofas surrounding a low, grey coffee table and overall bright and congenial ambiance. Behind the main seating area is an additional smaller sofa and coffee table setting, providing an extra area to relax and socialise in a slightly more intimate environment away from the main areas of this space.
The main dining area is located forward of the large seating area in the middle of the saloon, and features a square table comfortably seating up to ten guests, ensuring an inclusive, communal dining experience. The whole space including the main saloon and dining area is particularly open and airy, with plenty of headroom and an abundance of natural light provided from the surrounding large windows.
On the lower deck, guests are provided with several amenities to ensure a real superyacht experience, including a wellness room with an endless swimming pool, a modern gym, and a Turkish bath. The room is illuminated by large vertical windows to either side, offering beautiful views of the sea outside.
Moving to the upper deck which comes complete with a day head, a further welcoming seating area is found. Walking up the stairs, to the left is large corner sofa, with a plethora of large cushions adding to the cosiness of the setting. A bar is located opposite, as well as a further, but smaller, square table. Again, the whole area is notably bright and airy, with large windows surrounding the whole space and offering guests spectacular views to enjoy.
Elsewhere outside, vast open aft deck can be used to store tenders or landing craft up to 10 metres in length, with hull number one of the series fitted with a 4-ton lifting crane.
This area also features a second ‘endless’ current swimming pool on the deck, undoubtedly one of her most attractive amenities for guests. Once the area is cleared of tenders and toys, the large teak deck transforms into an extensive recreational area. The stern area also offers a complete beach club, complete with the second bar area on board, a sauna and a dedicated space for diving.
The 460Exp also emphasises eco-friendliness as part of her winning features, and boasts a Green Plus classification. Interestingly, her level of self-sufficiency and cruising stability are higher than comparable motor yachts, but, with a limited draught, she is also able to sail along the coast with low fuel consumption. Furthermore, her length allows her to be both agile and maneuverable, in turn allowing quick access to confined harbours, ports and docks.
In regards to the specifics of her performance capabilities, she is powered by twin Caterpillar C32 Acert engines of 1,319 hp each, which provide her with a maximum speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 11 knots. At cruising speed, she has a transatlantic range of 4,000 nm. The range also offers an alternative engine option of twin MTU 8V 4000 M63 engines.
SanLorenzo currently has a further two 460Exp models under construction at their facilities, one of which is nearing completion, with the other scheduled for completion in 2016.
