Sanlorenzo has seemed to master the market’s demand for a quality, customisable pocket explorer-style motor yacht in their 460EXP range. With the first unit unveiled in 2015, five units have already been sold with the remainder of the fleet expected to hit the water over the coming two years. The pearl-grey, X is the second version in this line of luxury expedition yachts and proves how open Sanlorenzo is towards finishing each of these models according to every client’s own requirements.

In the case of X, her Mexican owner was after a family-friendly layout that would support their active lifestyle. Hosting a large group of friends and keeping everyone entertained was a priority and the setup onboard reflects this spirit.

The sundeck is equipped with an indoor/outdoor gym with a superb forward-facing view. A small cool down terrace forward and aft of the gym area makes for a perfect post workout chill zone.

The main exterior gathering area is on the upper deck aft deck where a large 14-seater dining area finished with Minotti design pieces creates a great breakfast setting for the whole family ahead of a full day of watersports.

The main deck aft is where X’s fleet of toys and watercraft is secured. The U-Boat Worx submarine and foldable seaplane are good indicators of the level of adventure this owner is into. Also on this deck is a counter-current swimming pool that allows one to start the morning with a few laps in the water without having to get salty.

With the craft in the water, this spacious deck with uninterrupted views can be transformed into an extended beach club area or an informal lunch setting in between dives. From here guest have easy access to the water’s edge on the swim platform below.

The interior is a representation of the owner’s organic style. Surfaces are finished with natural woods, leathers and toned down colours to create a homely environment suited for extended stays onboard. The main saloon is especially airy with large sliding doors on either side allowing a cool breeze in, and added natural light coming through those reduced bulwarks.

The upper deck saloon is set up for fun family gatherings with a bar, games table and large sofa.

As expected, the owner’s cabin makes the most of X’s 9,2-metre beam in full-width cabin with an offset bed to port leaving the starboard side free for an intimate lounge area. The entrance to the ensuite bathroom is to port as one enters the suite.

The six cabin layout chosen by the owner means there are five additional cabins on the lower deck, two of which are spacious VIP staterooms. Each cabin is provided with ample storage space to make extended stays onboard possible – a them that runs throughout the entire vessel.

In terms of performance and cruising capabilities, X is built with a steel hull and lightweight aluminium superstructure to keep rolling to a minimum and increases cruising comfort. The 460 GT yacht is fitted with twinCaterpillar C32 Acert engines, each of which developing 1,319 hp to provide a maximum speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 11 knots. At cruising speed, X has a transatlantic range of 4,000 nm.
