Superyacht of the week: The 50 metre Couach La Pellegrina

SuperYacht of the Week

With a name that translates to “the pilgrim”, one might expect superyacht La Pellegrina to be a classic vessel with a traditional take on design and style. However, that couldn't be further from the truth with this grand Couach vessel, that was launched in 2012. Admittedly, she does have a traditional touch with regards to her personality, but that is mainly due to the wonderful hospitable ambiance than with the design scheme. And whenever friendliness, top quality and cutting edge design instantly catch the eye upon first inspection, having a closer look is definitely a treat.

Such is definitely the case with La Pellegrina, a brand new 50 metre superyacht that, first and foremost, boasts a personality that is soft and gentle at first glance but shows plenty of feistiness when one really tries to feel her vibe.

First off, she boasts some impressive stats to show off an aim for top performance. Due to the lightweight material applied in hull and superstructure, with carbon reinforcements, La Pellegrina offers top speeds at minimal fuel consumption, offering a minimal consumption of 180L/h at 12 knots. This specific material also makes her an exceptionally strong vessel, more shock resistant than traditional polyester and aluminium. The combination of lightness and strength not only has an effect on her performance but is also reflected in her design.

Her exterior features are sportively sharp yet gentle, with lines that are subtly curved and a silhouette that reflects a personality aiming for performance and comfort. Elegant and smart, La Pellegrina shows off a refined contemporary exterior that is undeniably firm yet slightly playful at the same time. The latter is, at least partly, a result of the applied colour palette, that combines a white superstructure with a golden-beige hull colour, softening the sharpness of her lines.

Upon boarding, the exterior lightness is instantly translated into the design of the main saloon, which is remarkably bright and smooth. The room shows off a soft contemporary lightness that is undeniably pleasant and soothing. The design is distinctly modern, with minimalistic shapes and ample amounts of glossy white and light lacquered sycamore woodwork.

The saloon is, from aft to fore, divided into a combined office-style and seating area, a main lounge and the formal dining. Overall, the ambiance is gentle, with a colour palette of white, natural tints of sycamore wood and touches of silver and stainless steel throughout.

With large floor to ceiling windows emphasising a panoramic feel in the lounge and dining areas, natural light floods in and enhances the design with a gentle softness that smoothly blends with the contemporary design. Soft white sofas and armchairs in the lounge, dining chairs with white upholstery and stainless steel, a gentle, almost soft-pink hue of the leather flooring and lush lacquered sycamore applied in ceilings and wall paneling, all combines to a pleasant mix of strict modern shapes bathing in gentle lightness. Outside, a wonderful aft deck with big al fresco dining table and a lounging sofa aft invite guests to sit back and enjoy the views, a great setting for ample high quality meals. Interiors have an oriental feel, emphasised by the artwork in the main lobby. Here, a central wall is covered by magnified imagery of calligraphic brushes embellished with asian characters.

The main staircase, connecting all interior decks, is slightly curved, enhancing a sense of openness and softness.

Moving to the fore main deck, the VIP quarters are to be discovered. Entering through a long corridor, which connects the stateroom with a large en suite and walk in wardrobe, one discovers quarters that continue the main saloon's light ambiance into a more intimate rendition. The stateroom occupies the foremost section, utilising the semi-circular arrangement of windows for a dramatic panoramic view. Soft colours, lightness and minimalistic shapes are key ingredients, with a king size bed perfectly placed for enjoying the grand vistas on every moment of the day, an undoubtable guest favourite. High gloss, white ceilings reflect the natural light, making it seemingly flow off of virtually every surface. An elegant and minimalistic en suite in white marble, with large separate shower area, perfectly frames this stateroom and turns these VIP quarters into a private area of space and elegant luxury.

Belowdecks, La Pellegrina offers four additional guest suites, two doubles and two twins. Each of these suites are designed as light, modern and luxurious guest accommodations that incorporate a soft, oriental style in a material palette of light sycamore and stainless steel detailing.

All suites are fitted with luxury en suites in crisp clean white marble, with big shower areas and ample storage space.

Upstairs, the epitome of guest luxury onboard La Pellegrina can be discovered, in the form of a master suite that occupies the larger section of the upper deck. With a large, light, full beam stateroom, lush en suite with a big tub, separate toilet area and a lush combined Hamam and shower room, plus a big walk in wardrobe and dressing room, these quarters are elegantly contemporary and eloquently stylish. All elements blend together to form a glamorous rendition of La Pellegrina's signature design and distinct personality.

Outside, the aft deck offers a wonderfully spacious and airy environment with a large U-shaped lounge area framed by vista views, a perfectly private exterior space for the owner's quarters.

Upstairs, La Pellegrina offers a great sun deck with a familiar and spacious feel. Aft, there is a lush and relaxing setup of a large Jacuzzi with adjacent sun pads. The central round table with bar is perfect for al fresco dining and cocktails in an intimate setting, while the fore deck houses an open yet secluded semicircular settee.

Overall, La Pellegrina's sun deck offers a complete set of amenities for ample wonderful days spent in style, luxury and space. All this seamlessly fits the vessel's personality of light and spaciousness, with an onboard living area of 500 square metres and lush guest accommodation for a company of up to 12 guests.

As a pilgrim, La Pellegrina emphasises all the good things in life, making it easy to imagine a pilgrimage as a perfectly relaxing and soothing experience.
