Venturing into new frontiers is an intimidating task for any shipyard. At 70.07 metres, Galactica Super Nova is not only Heesen Yachts’ largest yacht ever, but certainly one of the fastest superyachts in this size range, topping out at an eye-watering 30 knots. We take a closer look a this shining star in this week’s Superyacht of the Week feature.
No strangers to building high performance yachts with absurd top speeds, the 54-knot Pandium comes to mind – pushing a 70-metre vessel to a speed of 30 knots takes some serious engineering. To achieve this, and for the class-leading finish and ocean going capabilities that Heesen Yachts have become known for, an all-star cast was assembled to bring out the brightest features in the project. Heesen Yachts worked with Espen Oeino International, Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and the gurus at Van Oossanen Naval Architects to safely steer them into the unknown.
Designer Espen Oeino put his own twist on a Heesen icon to deliver a yacht with a powerful yet sleek and sensual look. That never-ending foredeck and arching top deck structure is sure to set Galactica Super Nova apart in any port. Sporty grey and red accents serve as a reminder of the yacht’s performance credentials for those who might find the sheer size of the yacht a bit too misleading.
Outside, her tender and toys are housed in the garage in the forward part of the hull, which enabled the team to establish a generously large beach club.
A six metre swimming pool is found on main deck aft with a waterfall and integrated Jacuzzi for relaxing, while the glass bottom of the pool allows natural light to filter into the beach club below.
Forward on the main deck, a touch-and-go helipad is found, which is transformed into an outdoor cinema for cosy nights in a spectacular setting.
The interior style on board Galactica Super Nova is a blend of superyacht-heyday elements and crisp, contemporary spaces that together create a fun yet surprisingly welcoming environment. Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design is the studio behind the interior areas, and worked closely with the client on realising his ideal home away from home.
She accommodates up to 12 guests on board over several well appointed cabins, including four guest cabins on the lower deck, an impressive VIP suite on the wheelhouse deck aft, and a large owner’s suite forward on the main deck.
To meet her owner's brief for a fast yacht capable of 30 knots, Galactica Super Nova’s engine room is equipped with three Series 4000 main engines from MTU. One of these engines powers a Rolls Royce booster jet to provide the extra thrust at maximum speed.
