Superyacht of the week: The Mangusta 165

SuperYacht of the Week

At the beginning of the summer of 2012, the brand new flagship from the Mangusta 165 series was delivered to her proud owners. This magnificent and impressively sportive superyacht, the 7th hull to be delivered in the series, had a successful premiere at the most recent edition of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, showing off her edgy style and warm, contemporary interior with a classic feel. At 50 metres LOA, the Mangusta 165 is, impressively, the largest superyacht of it's kind, considerably raising the bar when it comes to the space, performance and luxury of a large sportsyacht. But it's not her sportiveness that impresses most, but her overall ambiance with space, light and modern design as key ingredients.

Aside from being visually stunning, the Mangusta 165 is the fastest composite Maxi Open superyacht ever to be built, offering that intriguing cocktail of top performance and stylish luxury on a silver platter. Designer Stefano Righini, in collaboration with the team of the acclaimed Italian shipyard Overmarine Group, developed a design that shows off a well balanced and pure exterior, with sleek, strong lines and a slender silhouette. Despite her toned exterior, the Mangusta 165's crisp white hull embodies an impressively spacious interior layout that can be compared to a similarly sized three deck superyacht with regards to volume. She offers lush guest accommodation in the shape of four spacious suites, including one double and one twin, with an extra Pullman berth, one VIP suite located in the bow and an impressively sized, full beam master suite, all located on the lower deck.

The Mangusta 165's fresh, modern and airy ambiance is introduced upon entering the aft deck, where a large lounge-style seating arrangement, with comfortable brown wicker sofas and armchairs, offers guests the perfect environment to relax and enjoy the stunning vistas. It's easy to imagine this being an incredible setting to enjoy breakfast every morning, or a elegant environment for cocktail hour. Aft, there is a large Jacuzzi with adjacent sun pads, conveniently located just a few steps from the big swimming platform. Add to that a fully equipped bar, and The Mangusta 165's spacious aft deck offers guests a delightful combination of leisurely comfort, luxurious amenities, contemporary style and, above all, an open and inviting ambiance.

Moving towards the foredeck, a second exterior entertaining area can be discovered, in the form of a big U-shaped cockpit with bimini shades and a large, hidden flat screen television, and an impressively sized collection of sun pads fore, supplying guests with all the ingredients for a picture perfect lazy afternoon with stunning panoramic views. In fact, the fore deck is a great choice to lounge and relax at any moment, with ample privacy, space and inviting surroundings. As a nice touch, the nearby starboard bulkhead features a removable diving board for easy access into the water, great for a refreshing dive.

Moving inside, the main saloon offers a light, warm and friendly atmosphere. Modern and contemporary, without becoming minimalistic, the main saloon shows off sharp lines, clean shapes and a design scheme based on ample application of bleached teak for a modern, luxurious touch. Stainless steel and dark brown leather are richly applied on furnishings and walls, while camellia-coloured leather for the ceilings and coloured wooden flooring are added to the mix to form an overall design scheme that is perfectly balanced, light and airy. In short, a great example of a contemporary design that is warm and inviting.

Pleasantly striking is the absence of interior walls, especially between the main saloon and the wheelhouse, a feature which maintains the open and spacious atmosphere of the main saloon. The room is divided into a bar area with card table aft, the former with a Zimbabwe black marble front housing a big flat screen television, plus a big central lounge area and formal dining fore.

The lounge offers a large L-shaped sofa with ivory-coloured upholstery, combined with a set of dark leather armchairs, while the dining room is set up around a long table with leather tabletop elements, surrounded by modern chairs. The latter comfortably seats a company of up to 10 guests, with the roof sliding open to allow guests to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner accompanied by fresh blue or romantic starry skies.

With big windows throughout, the entire main saloon is flooded with natural light and supplied with great views outside, offering a different frame for the saloon's warm, modern and rich design every single time.

From the main dining area, a staircase leads down towards the lower deck, where all guest accommodation can be found. A corridor leads fore towards the VIP, double and twin suites. All guest suites are designed in a warm, contemporary style, with ample bleached teak as main ingredient. Luxurious en suites, with large shower areas and designed with beige marble, perfectly compliment all quarters to offer guests a wonderfully luxurious experience.

Undeniably the most impressive feature with regards to guest accommodation is the full beam master suite, which features a private study and lobby, his and hers en suites which spacious central shower area, with antique bronze marble, walk in wardrobes and a big fully equipped gym area. The latter can also be reached from the central lower deck corridor, conveniently making it available for all guests onboard.

To top off the impressive lower deck amenities, a big cinema and entertainment room is fitted with a grand screen and all technological facilities to offer guests ample enjoying movie nights.

Moving outside and upstairs, the spacious flybridge offers a great lunch area with an awning providing shade, a barbecue unit and an additional spacious sunbathing area aft, plus a second wheelhouse. Aside from relaxation, the Mangusta 165 offers ample possibilities for activities, with the stern garage housing jet skis, diving equipment and a great selection of water toys. And for those wanting to quickly reach the water from the flybridge, the inflatable slide offers the way quickest way for a refreshing swim.

The Mangusta 165 is an impressive superyacht, setting new standards with regards to volume and performance. She offers guests a picture perfect experience, with a delicate and modern style, warm ambiance and ample of luxury amenities. Undoubtedly, she will charm all her guests with her grace, her speed and her friendly, spacious and stylish atmosphere.
