Superyacht of the week: The refreshing Heliad II

Starting off the year in a refreshing, friendly and particularly inviting way, the remarkably stylish, brand new Heliad II is a 33.4 metre LOA superyacht was launched just last year and is, deservingly, 2014's very first superyacht of the week. Designed by Diana Yacht Design, with interiors from Weber Yacht Design, and built by Lynx Yachts at the Scheepwerf Made facilities, Heliad II is all Dutch, all splendid and, above all, delightfully contemporary and exquisitely luxurious.

With lush accommodations for up to 12 guests, she boasts a layout that is similar to those usually found on superyachts exceeding 45 metres LOA. This gives Heliad II an instantly airy, open ambiance, presenting guests with plenty of feisty personality and an elegance, with a style that might best be described as light, contemporary and slightly playful.

Her exterior look is strong, curvy and well balanced. Heliad II is an undeniable modern classic, with her navy blue, steel hull and clean white, aluminium superstructure that form a silhouette with a classic touch. Her shapely, round aft, gentle curves and overall look of friendly yet feisty finesse, make Heliad II reflect an exterior look of confidence, fun and elegance.

Framed by dramatic vista views, the large, elegant teak deck is combined with light, modern furnishing in a wicker-style finish and soft beige upholstery. Inviting sofas and armchairs are paired with marble topped tables. It all brings out a certain sense of warmth and airiness, which is instantly becoming and, as we are to find out, one of the Heliad II's many appealing features. Fore, the main deck has a great Portuguese deck that offers generous vista views and perfect privacy, with a cozy sofa to sit back and dream away.

The design is light and modern with a touch of classic elegance, all in a colour scheme of white, light grey and fresh blue. Again, exquisite vista views frame this deck perfectly, resulting in a rich sense of lightness and luxury that is simply wonderful. Fore, a panoramic cockpit, with chairs and a sofa paired with a round table, offers a perfect spot for lush relaxing at any moment of the day. Heliad II's spacious yet cozy sun deck is one of her most impressive features, with ample space, great style and a wonderfully luxurious ambiance, framed by dramatic, 360 degree vistas. There is a large round dining table available aft, covered by big bimini shades, as the main al fresco dining area onboard. The open and airy lounge fore, combining big lazy armchairs and a large sofa with the delightful surroundings, has a distinct feel of subtle luxury and a soft modern design. From intimate get togethers to refined cocktail parties and long evenings of dancing and stargazing, Heliad II's sun deck can host it all, especially when combined with the spacious aft bridge deck. With ample space for lush hours of sunbathing, lounging, relaxing and simply enjoying all the good things she has to offer, this deck, like all of Heliad II's areas, easily combines a particularly friendly ambiance with a refined luxury, making her, in a word, irresistible.

With regards to Heliad II's wide and spacious exterior areas, her starboard swimming platform is one of her most impressive features, especially considering her size. Tender storage is conveniently located on the central lower deck, for easy access. With part of the hull folding out, not only can Heliad II's tender be easily launched, guests are offered a great space to take a swim and simply relax.

The overall sense of spacious luxury is extended inside, starting with the main saloon. Large windows bring the outside in and allow the flow of ample natural light, perfectly framing the soft, contemporary design. Natural colours are combined with luxurious materials, soft and curvy shapes and an overall sense of contemporary finesse. Almost minimal, yet still rich and pleasantly inviting, the main saloon offers a big aft lounge and main dining fore, all in an open-plan room with minimal abundance and maximal style.

The ambiance in every suite is instantly appealing and soothing, with an abundance of details pleasantly absent yet all offering a perfect level of finishing throughout. She has a great luxurious feel, yet retains a sense of softness and elegance that makes her perfectly hospitable. There is an airiness and openness everywhere onboard, resulting in that great sense of luxurious freedom, which is what superyachting, for the greater part, truly is all about.
