Launched in 2011 by New Zealand based Yachting Developments, Antares III is a remarkable composite performance sloop designed by Bill Dixon of Dixon Yacht Design, measuring a LOA of 30 metres. The total build time of this superyacht was an unprecedented period of 400 days, reaffirming Yachting Developments’ reputation for being a solid partner in yachtbuilding, especially since the customary timeframe for building a vessel of this size is approximately 700 days.
Antares III has been built to comply with stringent Germanischer Lloyd and MCA classification requirements and 25% - 30% lighter than vessels of a similar size. She was specifically designed to cruise the world in comfort, able to be self sufficient for an extended period of time.
Antares III boasts an exterior of sleek, modern lines. Her slender, navy blue hull was obviously designed to rule the waves, comfortably sailing the seas of the world. The superyacht’s classically cozy, blond teak interior was designed by leading design company Rhodes Young and built in-house by Yachting Developments. The owner’s brief was to scale down his previous 40 metre yacht, also designed by Bill Dixon, since he felt it to be a bit too impersonal because of the necessity to employ a larger crew. Comfort and performance were equally significant requirements for this project, while still being able to sail with a relatively small crew.
Antares III’s comfortable character can be experienced upon boarding, with sizeable aft deck seating in the form of two opposite L-shaped sofas/sunpads, the more intimate yet spacious guest cockpit and additional informal seating arrangements on the foredeck. The raised pilothouse offers maximum all round visibility and the large, opening windows offers perfect means of interacting with guests on deck.
The split-level saloon is a big focus of the interior layout and with the aft windows and door folding away, a seamless blend between interior to exterior areas can be realized.
Where the upper saloon, with a square-shaped sofa arrangement of cream-coloured leather emphasizes the surrounding windows and panorama views, the lower saloon boasts a more intimate setting with opposite seating arrangements, one L-shaped and one U-shaped, in soft suede leather. The former is spacious, airy and offers ample amounts of natural light. The navigation and bar area are located on starboard. Apart from offering comfortable and warmth, the lower saloon can be easily transformed into an elegant dining area, featuring a high gloss walnut and gold inlaid dining table.
Overall, the saloon areas are designed around the warmth of blond teak paneling and robust luxury of the wide planked Walnut floors. The atmosphere is pleasantly elegant; the colour palette of muted tones combined with soft, curved shapes result in a calm and elegant interior design.
The owner’s quarters are designed around the full beam stateroom with private access to the cockpit. Here, the saloon’s design scheme has been transformed into a more informal rendition, with light, plush carpeting, cream leather wall panels and dashes of warm red and brown tints in cushions and upholstery. The owner’s cabin is light and spacious, a perfectly private retreat with comfortable sitting and office areas, plus a luxurious and generously sized en suite bathroom. An elegant lobby offers extra privacy, separating the owner’s cabin from the additional guest cabins.
Guest accommodations consist of one double and one twin cabin, the latter offering an additional Pullman. Both guest cabins have a similar interior design, a welcoming atmosphere of balanced and muted colours and materials, and are fitted with sizeable en suite bathrooms.
