Following her launch this past April and sea trials this past May, the 32.27-metre high performance sloop Taniwha has embarked on her maiden voyage. Taking off from Cape Town, the journey will span 7,400 miles with the Mediterranean as her final destination. The sailing yacht is the fourth hull of the SW105 miniseries and features Southern Wind’s GT (Gran Turismo) deck configuration. She features naval architecture from Farr Yacht Design while both her exterior and interior designs come from the drawing boards of Nauta Yacht Design. Taniwha has been constructed with a carbon hull.
Taniwha can accommodate as many as six guests across three staterooms. Her owner’s stateroom is situated forward with her remaining staterooms, an en suite VIP and a twin, located aft of her saloon. She is operated by a crew of five.Photo: Southern Wind ShipyardPhoto: Southern Wind ShipyardMassimo Gino of Nauta Yacht Design elaborates on the details of Taniwha’s interior, “In just one yacht you find all of the latest design innovations combined in a coherent way and perfectly matching the GT style of the deck. Floating lockers fixed to the hull sides emphasise the yacht's hull shape giving a feeling of lightness; slanted and curved bed bases allow for extra cabin space, counters covered with fabric perfectly match the teak softening the perception of volumes; the combination of the light flooring and the fabric covered wall panels give brightness and warmth to the interior.”Photo: Southern Wind ShipyardPhoto: Southern Wind Shipyard
