Superyacht Yersin makes grand entrance into Monaco

The recently delivered superyacht Yersin which is both a private vessel and research laboratory, arrived in Monaco on Monday 8th June. She was escorted by the Maritime Affairs Department and Yacht Club de Monaco, and was greeted with a water salute from the fireboat and a chorus of horns blown by all the yachts moored in the YCM Marina.

“We are delighted to welcome a new vessel into the Yacht Club’s fleet, particularly as the owner is the first ambassador of La Belle Classe Superyachts. This ship has kept all her promises and commitments. It’s like the spirit of Calypso all over again. I wish her many a bon voyage,” said Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco.

Superyacht Yersin, built for François Fiat, has been designed to travel, explore and educate, in any conditions including ice exploration. Encouraged by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Oceanographic Museum, the M/V Yersin is a tool to achieve a project called A.S.E. (Adventure – Science – Education). She will be officially presented in a ceremony attended by HSH Prince Albert II on June 20th.

“It is fantastic to receive such a warm welcome. I have dreamed of this ecological ship ever since I can remember. A real exploration vessel, designed for adventure, science and educating future generations. She is named Yersin in honour of Doctor Alexandre Yersin (1863-1943), a physician with Messageries maritimes merchant shipping company, to whom humanity owes a great deal as he discovered the bacillus behind the bubonic plague. I also wanted to use one of his phrases - “You are not truly alive unless you keep moving” - as the ship’s motto,” commented an emotional owner, Francois Fiat.
