It’s not often that we come across superyachts which have been built in Argentina, but recently we came in touch with Buenos Aires based yacht designer Néstor Völker. Though he is yet to design a large superyacht of 35+ metres, he tells us that his portfolio consists of over 2,000 projects to date, several of which fall into the superyacht category.
Just some of his larger projects include the 108’ aluminium vessel Andes, built by the Argentinian shipyard Tecnao and exported to the U.S. shortly after her completion around five years ago. The following photographs show Andes under construction at the yard.
Völker comments on Andes, as well as shares an insight into some of his other projects:“The boat was designed in an atemporal style upon request of her owners so that she did not become unfashionable too quickly. I think the purpose was obtained. Another big boat I designed includes an 100’ sail catamaran for search in Antarctica. Last year she completed her first trip around South America.
“I also designed an 80’ sailboat for the Schurmann family of Brazil with whom we went this summer to Antarctica. This yacht is now going to China to participate in the filming of the new movie 1421 - the year that China discovered the Americas.”
