Next month, the first edition of SuperYacht Times’ <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/213" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit">Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit</a> takes place in Hong Kong. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7139" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="International Maxi Association (IMA) (Company)">IMA</a> Caribbean Multihull Challenge 2024 drew to a close this weekend, with Nigel Irens-designed catamaran <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra 25.34m (83'2&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a> winning the inaugural event by one point.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/307974/image/large-b91e9dbf7ffd4ff23b77616bd8bc0402.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/307974">The Caribbean Multihull Challenge Race and Rally is the first race in the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7139" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="International Maxi Association (IMA) (Company)">IMA</a> Caribbean Maxi Multihull Series (CMMS) which was introduced this year. The CMMS comprises a mix of inshore and offshore races for maxi yachts up until 7 April 2024.The Series concluded this weekend with the BVI Spring Regatta &amp; Sailing Festival held out of Nanny Cay, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. The Series saw ten maxi multihulls of over 18 metres competing for the win.&nbsp;For the first two races, there was a breeze, which the 25.34-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/271" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Green Marine (Company)">Green Marine</a> yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra 25.34m (83'2&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a> prevailed in both. “The around the island race was fun and provided the whole variety,” explained Switzerland’s Adrian Keller. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/307975/image/large-b5b2eab8327a716d8024eea6da6df055.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/307975">There were six competitors in the Performance Multihull class, with Todd Slyngstad’s HH66 catamaran Nemo and Don Wilson’s Gunboat 68 Convexity² in direct competition with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra 25.34m (83'2&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a>. “Although we were only three boats [maxi catamarans], we were never more than two to three minutes apart. It was real racing,” added Adrian Keller.&nbsp;However, there were some significant differences between the trio, with Nemo and Convexity² weighing around half of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra 25.34m (83'2&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a>. “They accelerate and can duck and dive and you try and put pressure on them and they can get out of that and turn the situation around,” explained <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra 25.34m (83'2&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a>’s Australian co-skipper Paul Larsen.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/307976/image/large-8f91ca18007e8139b6d38a6a4c951231.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/307976">“It has been a struggle, so for the big girl to still be able to punch her weight and come second in a sub-six knot regatta is a pretty good result!” In the BVI, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra 25.34m (83'2&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a> was assisted for the first time on tactics by Paul ‘CJ’ Campbell-James, wing trimmer for the Canadian SailGP team.Perhaps most memorable to the maxi catamaran competitors was the spirit between the crews. During the Scrubs Island Invitational Convexity² blew up her headboard and the very top of her mast track but it was two crew from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra 25.34m (83'2&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a> who offered their services and were up Convexity²’s rig until the early hours of the following morning effecting a repair, so the US team could continue racing.&nbsp;“The next day after racing they (Convexity²’s crew) came over with a bunch of drinks and we invited our other competitor too (Nemo.) We sat down with Tim to find out what makes the Lotus table so unique and the perfect accompaniment to any superyacht interior design. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/310755/image/large-03804da547ef24f5748951ffeb064dab.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/310755">Tell us about the origin of&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7636" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lotus Woodworks (Company)">Lotus Woodworks</a>, when was the company founded, and how has it developed over the years?&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7636" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lotus Woodworks (Company)">Lotus Woodworks</a> was spun out from our existing reclaimed barn wood furniture company, Western Heritage Furniture (WHF) two years ago. WHF designs and manufactures interior home furnishings in the Mission and Craftsman styles utilising reclaimed barn wood, leather, copper and steel. We sell to furniture dealers, interior designers, hospitality and residential and offer full custom options.&nbsp;In 2009, we were creating custom furniture pieces for a residential remodel in Utah while working with an interior design firm. They had an existing Jupe style table that they wanted to incorporate into the design, but it had warped making it non-functional. We took on the challenge to design and build a new table that would remain stable for years to come and the result is the Lotus Table. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/310749/image/large-97263ba060be2bae2a7adc49c75d414f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/310749">Can you explain how the table works and why it is so unique and in demand?&nbsp;Round dining tables have, and I believe always will, remain the best choice for maximising space and seating capacity. Additionally, the circle is a universal symbol of totality and&nbsp;wholeness that creates movement towards unity and equitable relationships. In its mechanism, the Lotus table expands on a locking carousel, meaning that you can open and close the table from one place instead of having to walk around and unfold each section in situ. First you pull each pie out and unfold each leaf, then push the leaf into the centre and then each pie to lock it all in place. What we perfected is the precision milling and assembly needed for smooth operation and leaf seam consistency. We approached this challenge by minutely breaking down each process and subtracting wasted motions or adding valuable details. We then researched and developed the best materials available today and added specific CNC technologies to execute the precision required.&nbsp;Can you tell us more about the capabilities of your craftsmen and the intricacies of the furniture&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7636" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lotus Woodworks (Company)">Lotus Woodworks</a>&nbsp;produces?&nbsp;Our craftsmen are unique in the woodworking industry due to the focus and endurance each table requires. Each table we build is led by one craftsman from the start to completion. They are involved in all pre-production, material sourcing and scheduling of the specific table. This entire process typically takes 5-7 weeks of pure devotion to many precision and repetitive tasks. Our tables are marathon projects that can only be managed by a craftsman with an exceptional mental fortitude.&nbsp;In addition, we offer a delivery and instalment service to US-based clients because we truly value the customer experience.
