In the second phase, the focus will be on implementing this with a comprehensive materials database and user-friendly calculation tool.&nbsp;This will allow manufacturers to conduct eco-design and comprehensively reduce environmental impact, as well as communicate the environmental footprint to consumers, stakeholders and regulators. The project has already been presented to the EU Commission and has received strong support.The threshold of 24 metres was chosen to align with EU regulations, and will be based on a coherent Life Cycle Assessment approach, following the stringent EU Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules.“We need a proactive and pragmatic approach to sustainability and this project will develop the tools that industry needs,” concluded Robert Marx.

The company has now completed its restructuring, with German-American investor and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5188" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silent Yachts (Company)">Silent Yachts</a> client Michael Said having acquired the shipyard out of administration to fund the construction of all in-build projects. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/308337/image/large-812058c3c2553e503fd4e90ebb28dd38.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/308337">The company has also put a new management team in place, led by the new CEO Fabrizio Iarrera, formerly of both <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4387" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monte Carlo Yachts (Company)">Monte Carlo Yachts</a> and Dolce Vita Yachts. Said's investment protected the companies 140 employees jobs and has enabled the yard to continue its production, with the company also announcing the launch of the first <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5188" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silent Yachts (Company)">Silent</a> 62 catamaran. A further seven of the model are due to launch this year. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5188" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silent Yachts (Company)">Silent Yachts</a> has also confirmed that it will launch the first 23.95-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5188" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silent Yachts (Company)">Silent</a> 80 model in 2025, the first of which were due for delivery this year.&nbsp;Iarrera added, "Our yacht owners are passionate about the brand and the yacht itself, as our very strong pipeline of orders shows. Effective April 8, Rossi has relinquished the powers previously granted to him by the board of directors on April 28 and June 22, 2022. As I could not find anyone who offered what I needed, I thought it was something the world needed! Turns out it did – phew! The tenders and toys had always been a specific area of interest for me as a previous captain and a yacht manager, and I believed I had a very specific skill set which others could use on their projects! Prior to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">SYTT</a> I was Chief Instructor of a yacht training school, so had a huge amount of experience in all manner of craft. I also had a job driving boats in films, followed by captaining various sailboats between the UK and NZ, followed by a few years working for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hill Robinson (Company)">Hill Robinson Yacht Management</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/303864/image/large-056c07999a8a74c083bc6d9ac61fd644.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/303864">Could you elaborate on some key milestones and challenges that have shaped the company's journey so far?&nbsp;Initially it was just my wife and I working from home but very quickly we grew with seemingly large steps such as getting offices, warehousing and growing our staff. In recent years with Brexit, covid and the Ukraine war this has certainly caused some additional challenges. Some of these are positive, such as us setting up a Monaco company and extending our warehousing to Nice to cater for EU clients.We were ahead of the market (first to market) in the offering we were doing as a business when we set up and that certainly helped us grow as a business. Typical tenders onboard yachts were a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2473" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Novurania (Company)">Novurania</a> or a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5361" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zodiac Maritime Ltd. (Company)">Zodiac</a> and toys were usually a Jet Ski and towable. As we know this has greatly changed, with tenders and toys being critical to the enjoyment and marketing of a yacht, with a typical 50 metre spending approximately €100k on a new-build toys setup and yachts having multiple, often custom yacht tenders, limousines and chase boats. In the very early days, many tender manufacturers were unknown and poorly marketed, and our experience made a huge difference in helping guide clients into the best craft for their needs.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/303865/image/large-c67e542ebaca2327d33f9f53256808f2.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/303865">In terms of milestones one significant one was where we won a Queen's Award and met the Royals at Buckingham Palace in 2017. We also won numerous other awards such as the British Marine Federation (BMF) Best Marine Business to work for, BMF Business of the Year and Sunday Times Fasttrack awards showing company growth. Other milestones are some large new-build orders which we got a lot of PR and marketing from. We have been lucky to work with some innovative owners and an example which instantly springs to mind is the original Ulysses U107 (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4946" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Andromeda107.4m (352'4&quot;)Kleven Maritime AS2016">Andromeda</a>) and U116 (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5796" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Multiverse116.0m (380'7&quot;)Kleven Maritime AS2018">Multiverse</a>) made by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2996" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kleven Maritime AS (Company)">Kleven</a>. On these we completed the full tenders and toy outfitting, showcasing what it is we do. We are now involved in a lot of large new-builds in a similar capacity. In truth, the larger the project the more value we add and are often considered an extension to a new-build team.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/203481/image/large-f2ec189e8856bb169bf1f545e7f7c8b7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/203481">How has the company evolved to meet the changing demands of the industry?&nbsp;There have been several changes over the years to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">SYTT</a> and we are now a Group of companies. This includes:&nbsp;• <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6281" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Shipyard Supply co (Company)">Shipyard Supply Co</a>, setup in 2018, specifically aimed at manufacturing and selling our own deck equipment out of our Suffolk, UK HQ. This includes transom fenders, carbon pillar fenders, tender whips and more.• Incorporating <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">SYTT</a> MC in 2019, our Monaco business, required due to Brexit but also setup to increase our presence to operational yachts and toy rental in the Med.• Launching <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ROAM (Company)">ROAM</a> boats in 2021, our own brand of aluminium adventure yacht tenders.• Bringing to market our own Superyacht Inflatables, manufactured in the EU and made from a recyclable TPU instead of PVC.&nbsp;A constant theme with our businesses has been the development to offer what the market is after and adjust what we offer to suit, constantly being in evolution. The requests we got back in 2011 are very different to what we now receive. An example of this is that we used to get asked to populate a tender garage and had a very loose brief. Nowadays people are more educated and know specifically what they want. One significant change for us as a business is that now, in 2023, an increasing number of clients are after a manufacturer direct relationship. This is partly due to price, to ensure the best value, service and communication. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/221830/image/large-dcfd9578fc59eae1b469069b3c099f14.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/221830">As the CEO, what strategies have you employed to foster a culture of innovation within the company?Innovation has been easy! Clients simply ask us to develop new things, whether that be products or services. In terms of personnel we are a very relaxed office and everyone mucks in at all levels. Office doors are always open and both Claire and I have always shared all information throughout the company. This is done face to face but we also share info internally on newsletters, days out and corporate events. Everyone is as important as each other, that is why we have things such as company wide bonuses, which are the same value if junior admin to senior management.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/303862/image/large-e593931158c77696b4e0c14e5b233bca.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/303862">Are there any strategic partnerships or collaborations that have played a significant role in the growth and success of&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">Superyacht Tender and Toys</a>?&nbsp;There are a number of ones here, and thinking about this they mostly rotate around who we like, are friends with and trust. Exceptional relationships on the tenders side have been <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5749" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ribeye Tenders (Company)">Ribeye</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4767" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Compass Tenders Ltd (Company)">Compass</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4611" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Argo Navis (Company)">Argo Navis</a>. On the toys side it is hard to look past JOBE, Watersports World and Flite.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">Superyacht Tender and Toys</a>&nbsp;has expanded its scope beyond traditional yacht toys. Can you share insights into the diversification of the company's offerings and how this has contributed to its overall success?&nbsp;There are actually a few ways to answer this. We made our name back in 2011 being a one stop shop. Whether this be fenders, toys, tenders, ropes, gym equipment, procurement and much more. I remember us shipping bottled water around the world for one yacht! We have however had a mini reset in recent years and we now do not market ourselves like this. We no longer do procurement of anything other than tenders and toys. We are very good at what we do, often being seen as a management consultancy and having unique industry experience and do not want to compete with procurement companies selling toilet rolls, crockery, cushions and filters. This change was mainly due to a combination of seeing which products do well for us as a business. Procurement was the worst and one which no staff enjoyed. Since making this change, which felt quite brave at the time, profits have more than doubled in three years and clients are respecting us as the authority on all things tenders and toys.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/303867/image/large-189d771c72cd6c82c98a9ecb6a4cbdef.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/303867">What exciting developments and innovations can we expect from&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">Superyacht Tender and Toys</a>&nbsp;in the near future?&nbsp;We have some great new <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ROAM (Company)">ROAM</a> tenders soon to hit the water in 2024. These include a 11 metre owners landing craft, a 9.3 metre and 7.5 metre beachlander, some inflatable landing crafts and an electric RIB. Other than that we are involved in almost all large yacht builds delivered from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a> and others. Over the past decade, Turkey has emerged as an increasingly attractive location for 30-metres plus superyacht refits among owners worldwide. This surge in popularity can be attributed to a number of things, such as the cost-effectiveness of its refit works, facilitated by historically lower labour costs and favourable foreign currency exchange rates.Furthermore, the appeal of Turkey is heightened by the saturation of many European refit yards each season, coupled with ongoing developments in Turkey’s marina infrastructure and the growing allure of its coastline as a travel destination.According to <a href="https://sytiq.superyachttimes.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">SYT iQ</a>, there was a significant upswing in the number of 30-metres-plus yachts undergoing refits from 2017 to 2021, from 18 superyachts undergoing refits in 2017 to an impressive 78 in 2021.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309766/image/large-3e0c00de0f58ad553ced3fd724d25575.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309766"> <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309768/image/large-40133701a430c072aa2b45865b3425f2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309768">Burak Nergiz from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2580" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="KRM Yacht Refit & Repair (Company)">KRM</a> explained that the significant transformation observed in the Turkish refit sector over the past decade can be attributed to the development of refit infrastructure and a strategic shift in refit approach, enabling an increased capacity for yachts. Nergiz notes that “before 2010, many refit yards were part of shipyard manufacturers, and there was no dedicated company solely focused on refits until the establishment of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2580" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="KRM Yacht Refit & Repair (Company)">KRM</a>.” Moreover, in 2018, as evidence of the growing demand for refits, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2580" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="KRM Yacht Refit & Repair (Company)">KRM</a> expanded its capabilities by acquiring a 300-ton travel lift, thereby enhancing the capacity for refitting yachts up to 45-metres in size.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/290001/image/large-4b7e41140270bcdfb299e428802d1bd3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/290001">Despite the growth up to 2021, the years 2022 and 2023, witnessed a reduction in refit activities within the Turkish superyacht market. Nevertheless, Turkey appears to have retained its substantial global market presence, constituting approximately 5% of the total number of vessels undergoing refit operations compared to 13% in France and 14% in Spain.The decrease in the number of yachts frequenting Turkey for refit can be attributed to a combination of reasons. These range from the deterioration of financial conditions in Turkey to a considerable increase in the number of superyachts undergoing refits in previous years, along with a rise in new-build projects that has resulted in a lack of space for new refit projects.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/289999/image/large-49c974f4ef421f68ce3035431b7181d5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/289999">According to the Associated Press, the Turkish economy is grappling with a currency crisis and soaring inflation, significantly affecting labour wages and the prices of raw materials. Ersun Sengun founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7431" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mono Yachting (Company)">Mono Yachting</a>, a full yacht services agency based in Bodrum, has undertaken numerous projects over the years and is currently working on the refit of the 49-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/18" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Amels (Company)">Amels</a> superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2339" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MMM49.0m (160'9&quot;)Amels1993">MMM</a>. He confirms the economic impact on the yacht sector, affirming: “due to inflation, the minimum salary for workers has increased unbelievably from 2,500 to 11,500 Lira in three years, and now we are expecting to see it rise to approximately 17,500 Lira this year, representing a substantial 600% increase from the initial 2,500 Lira.” This is noteworthy, as the cost of refitting a yacht 30-metres plus in Turkey has now become comparable to that in France, Italy, and Spain. Ersun highlights this shift by recounting a conversation with a superyacht captain who informed him, “the cost of the refit is now almost the same as Palma.” But despite the increase in price, the “captain was still adamant about carrying out the refit in Turkey due to our craftsmanship and attention to detail”. Ersun further emphasised that in Palma, “where many yachts are stacked on top of each other, there is a lack of focus and attention to detail, unlike the work carried out in Turkey.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/289998/image/large-ee8dc32e950f13db1d1bf4a5f7ee566f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/289998">Regarding the impact of inflation on the sector, Bogdan Gusarev, Sales Director at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4385" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bering Yachts (Company)">Bering Yachts</a>, notes, "Turkey has a different approach to inflation compared to people in Europe. While sudden inflation spikes of 10 percent may cause panic elsewhere, Turkey, being more accustomed to inflation has adapted to this economic reality and found effective coping mechanisms. This isn't a new challenge for them, having dealt with ongoing issues even before the impact of Covid. Consequently, this trend is likely to persist. I believe Europe is currently grappling with more severe challenges in terms of pricing and a shortage of skilled labour.”Aside from the economic impact on the Turkish refit market, another factor contributing to the decline in the number of refit projects is the upsurge in new-build yachts, leading to a shortage of available space for refit endeavours. Berkay Yilmaz, Commercial Director at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1414" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bilgin Yachts (Company)">Bilgin Yachts</a> commented: “While we acknowledge the growing demand for new-builds, it's important to highlight that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1414" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bilgin Yachts (Company)">Bilgin Yachts</a> is currently dedicated to the maintenance and refit of our existing projects, which encompasses both new builds and refit assignments. At present, we are unable to accept external refit projects”.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/289997/image/large-ce2eb361eb72d5bfe3360e04f2dec97c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/289997">Moreover, Aleksandra Podlipna, Megayacht Technical Manager of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5160" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="West Istanbul Marina (Company)">West Istanbul Marina</a>, who is working on the refit project of a 67-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a>, further confirms this stating that: “<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1414" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bilgin Yachts (Company)">Bilgin</a> expanded the size of their vessels. Previously, they constructed yachts ranging from 35 to 50 metres, but now they are working on yachts as large as 80-metres. As a result, their facilities are occupied with new building projects. Moreover, this trend is also evident with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/224" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Turquoise Yachts (Company)">Turquoise</a>, as they have also increased the size of their in-build yachts. This heightened demand has created constraints on both manpower and facility space for other refit projects”.An analysis of <a href="https://sytiq.superyachttimes.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">SYT iQ</a>'s data on the number of new yacht sales further substantiates Ersun’s and Podlipna’s observations, revealing a notable increase in new-build projects within the region. In 2023 there were 21 new yacht sales and 30 in 2022, a substantial rise from 16 in 2020.Furthermore, Bogdan provided insight, stating, ”I can confirm that major projects are currently underway in Turkey, not merely in the conceptual phase but in the construction stage. These projects surpass the 30-metre range. Specifically, I'm monitoring numerous developments within the Antalya Free Zone, where multiple projects of 40-metres plus are actively under construction.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/289995/image/large-f81ff82958c786d1d9aff2945420fd38.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/289995">Oguz Bilgin, sales manager at TransDiesel, a company that distributes John Deere Power Systems in Turkey, highlighted an interesting development, where many commercial shipyards are transitioning into the superyacht sector, particularly in the refit aspect. He highlighted that Tersan Shipyard has opened a superyacht refit division called <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7461" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tersan Marine (Company)">Tersan Marine</a>, with a large refit area in development covering a total of 200,000 square-metres in Oren, Turkey. After a brief conversation with Fatih Çelik, the Refit and Boatyard Manager Of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7461" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tersan Marine (Company)">Tersan Marine</a> confirmed this development and affirmed that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7461" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tersan Marine (Company)">Tersan Marine</a>’s facilities in Oren aims to make standard maintenance and refit works for superyachts. Whilst the work is still in progress, the facility recently unveiled an 820-ton travel lift and can accommodate superyachts up to 65-metres in the drydock area. The establishment of this facility, in cooperation with the Turkish government has created a refit ecosystem, attracting various nautical supply chain companies to the area.Regarding the future impact on the Turkish refit market and the Turkish superyacht sector as a whole, Bogdan highlighted that there are challenges with many skilled labourers moving to Europe or other destinations due to uncertainties. However, he acknowledges that this is a temporary period. “It is now imperative for companies to provide incentives to retain qualified personnel''. Despite economic deterioration and focus on large new-build projects, there are further positive signs of the Turkish refit market as seen with the development of refit infrastructure capable of carrying out multiple refit projects simultaneously. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309769/image/large-3d5cf723171be50b03110798133585d8.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309769">
