In the second video of our series, Founder and Director of SuperYacht Times Merijn de Waard, explains why so many used yachts are being sold in what is a record breaking year for the industry, and shares his insightful market predictions as we close the year out.
Using intelligence from our SYT iQ platform, we can gather statistics showing, for example, that in the first half of this year, 380 used yachts over 24 metres have been sold, in contrast to just 201 in the same period of 2020. This is almost double the figures from last year.
There are many reasons this year has seen a boom in yacht sales, including but not limited to, the Covid-19 pandemic of course, which saw many people delay buying their yachts last year. Secondly, many people who might charter a yacht have been encouraged to buy a yacht, to ensure travel freedom in a time of uncertain regulations.
