Established in 2002, Platinum Yachts FZCO first received recognition with their inaugural construction project, superyacht Dubai, formerly Golden Star. Dubai was completed in 2006 and is still the world’s largest superyacht. Platinum Yachts’ core business is custom and semi-custom built superyachts as well as conversions and repairing of both motor and sailing superyachts. At Platinum Yachts, they have an in-house naval architect, as well as fully-staffed engineering and design departments; a perfect match for the conversion of the superyacht Dubai Magic.
Dubai Magic was originally built by Aegean Yacht in Bodrum, Turkey in 2002 as a passenger ship. In 2006 Platinum Yachts started the complex conversion from the 45 metre, three-masted schooner, with a round bilge steel hull and superstructure, to the world class sailing superyacht she is today. During the conversion process, Dubai Magic was stripped to her bare hull and converted into a luxurious experience with fast lines, large interior accommodations, and open deck spaces.
Dubai Magic's measurements include an overall length of 45 metres and a water level beam of 10 metres. When fully loaded she displaces 426 tons. Dubai Magic's mechanical propulsion system consists of a twin screw conventional shaft system, driven by two Caterpillar 3406C diesel engines with 480 bhp each at 2100rpm. When under power, Dubai Magic will reach a maximum speed of 12 knots, a cruising speed of 10.5 knots, and a range of 1100 nautical miles (at 12 knots).
She's powered by two Northern Lights 155 kw diesel generators. Her sailing and rigging consists of approximately 600 square metres of all renewed sails, with new hydraulic winches and sail tracks for the rigging. To better ensure a smooth cruising, she has been equipped with fixed fin stabilizers that work both underway as well at anchor. This superyacht was built to RINA Pleasure Vessel requirements.
The general arrangement has been carefully developed and consists of the sun deck, main deck, cabin deck, and the engine room. The 12 guest cabins and Owners suite are located on the cabin deck and a spacious lounge and dining saloon on the main deck. In terms of square metres, she has an impressive 346 square metres of exterior living space, including the aft main deck with a bimini and an open sundeck. For interior living spaces, the layout is arranged with effective utilization of pre-existing structures, optimizing the re-fit work required during the conversion process. As a result, she has approximately 339 square metres of luxury interior space, with an additional 55 square metres for crew accommodation.
On the aft main deck, this superyacht is equipped with lounge chairs and a wrap-around sofa incorporated into her stern. She has also been equipped with a comfortable 8 person dining space for evening meals under the stars. From here we can move forward into the deckhouse, where we find an over-sized lounge/dining saloon. Here the interior design is full of rich wood grain, elegant gold-patterned carpeting, and plush soft red-leather furniture. To port, there is a seating area which is separate from the starboard-side bar. Forward and amidships there are two well-sized lounge areas.
Moving still forward of this area is the dining area, which can seat 14 guests. The wheelhouse is located on the forward main deck and can be accessed from the dining area or from the outside. From the wheelhouse, a ladder leads below deck to the crew accommodation, located on the forward lower deck. The forward main deck provides additional sun bathing.
On the cabin deck, working our way aft from the crew accommodation is the galley, laundry space and the captain’s cabin. Aft of here is the full-beam owner’s stateroom with separate lounge, office, and ensuite bath. Aft of the owner's stateroom are four guest suites with double beds, free-standing sofa, and ensuite baths. On the aft cabin deck are 8 intimate guest cabins, each with a full-sized bed and ensuite bath. Dubai Magic has been equipped with a complete new centralized entertainment system with local TV/DVD units in guest cabins and saloons and a state-of-the-art stereo system throughout with integrated local control.
