Simpson Marine has a strong line-up at this year's Singapore Yacht Show. Yachts on display include yachts from Azimut, Beneteau and Lagoon, as well as two superyachts. At the show, Simpson Marine created a 112 square metres floating hospitality area to provide its visitors a cool and refreshing environment to enjoy the yachts on display. This is the largest space Simpson Marine has taken throughout its history in the Singapore Yacht Show, and it has won the company an award for best display on the water on the SYS Gala night.
I talked to Mark Russell, Simpson Marine's Group's General Manager, about the their activity in Asia. "The mainstay of our business is production, as exclusive dealer of Azimut, Beneteau, and Lagoon. We do however see superyachts as an increasingly important part of our business. Superyachts have in many ways been the core of our business, when Mike Simpson first set the company up. There has always been a steady superyacht business for us. But we want to continue growing this part of our business. We are now even creating a special division for superyachts".
"Having a separate division for us makes sense, these are different customers, who have grown out of production yachts, and are now ready for something bigger. We work with these customers for as long as it takes, these are big purchases, the sometimes can be quite quick, for example in China, or in other cases the sales cycle might take up to two years".
"The Chinese market is very exciting, we see a lot of activity in the 50 to 70 foot range, serious interest in the 80 foot range, and now even strong interest in the superyacht segment. Dealing with superyacht clients from this part of the world, might require a different level of sales interaction with the customer. We see that these clients are quite heavily engaged in the design aspect of building a yacht, certainly in term of interior furnishings."
Talking about the Singapore Yacht Show, Mark commented: "I'm very positive. There is a good reason that we have been the biggest exhibitor at this show, for three years now, as it is such a strong show. Shows such as the Singapore Yacht Show are a great opportunity to showcase yachts, and to get potentail new clients onto the yachts, and engage them is a real dialogue."
