For the second year since we published our inaugural issue we are excited to be bringing the special 56 page edition of the SuperYacht Times newspaper to arguably the most important event in the superyacht calendar; the Monaco Yacht Show. Inside our largest issue ever you can enjoy a sneak peak into this years’ Show, including a fantastic Top 10 of just some of our favourite boats that will be present in Monaco. We also manage to catch MYS’ Managing Director, Gaëlle Tallarida, amidst the Monaco madness to share just some of the highlights we can expect to enjoy this year.
In this issue we also bring you two candid interviews with the men in the driving seat of two of the most important shipyards in the world; Peter Lürssen, CEO of Germany’s big boat builder Lürssen Yachts, and Massimo Perotti, CEO of Italy’s incredibly successful Sanlorenzo. Both very different yards with very different goals, here we offer a fascinating insight into the driving forces behind some of the world’s most renowned superyachts.
PalladiumandSolemaradmirers will be captivated by our feature on British design studio, Michael Leach Design. We spoke with Mark Smith - one half of the MLD owners - who animatedly revealed the real stories behind these innovative vessels. We can also exclusively reveal the very first images of two of their latest 90+ metre projects currently under construction, no doubt destined to be another gem in the already bejewelled MLD crown.
With less and less new sailing yachts commissioned or completed each year, we also asked several leaders in the industry their thoughts on innovation in sailing. With comments from Perini Navi, German Frers, Malcolm McKeon, Doyle Sails and Ron Holland, we take a closer look at the issue of generating a higher interest in this special sector.
In this issue you will also find interviews with Turkish shipbuilders Sarp Yachts and AES Yachts, as well as Yachting Developments by Ellie Brade - one of the only New Zealand shipyards left standing after the unfortunate fallout the Kiwi industry took after the Financial Crisis. Interviews with Bart Verkuyl, the new Director at Feadship van Lent, Diana Yacht Design, and a compelling historical look at the yachts of the Principality of Monaco by revered yacht historian, Malcolm Wood, are just some of the articles that complete this issue.
