Make your superyacht the ultimate playground: Top trends in toys

Every superyacht worth its salt has an arsenal of top-quality toys on board ready to entertain its guests. But which toys are currently ‘on trend’ and which have fallen out of favour? We speak to Josh Richardson, founder of Superyacht Tenders & Toys, to find out what’s currently on the top of every owner’s wishlist. Trends in toys Currently, which are your most popular toys on offer for superyacht owners?

Anything foiling [using a foilboard or hydrofoil to surf] is very popular, notably electric Lift eFoils. Custom inflatable docks that wrap around the transom and provide tender, Jet-Ski and SeaBob berthing are also super popular. This ‘transition’ area connecting the yacht to the sea offers excellent-value retail space for us as it encourages interaction in, or around the water: an ideal opportunity for guests to enjoy our toys!Trends in toys What trends in superyacht toys have you noticed over the past few years? Have there been any major changes in what owners are looking for?

Over the last 10 years we have seen the rise of the yacht slide, then jetpacks, paddle-boards and now it is all about foiling and electric surfboards. There has been an increase in yachts carrying small sailboats, whether inflatable like the Tiwal, packable like the Reverso, or stackable like the RS Aero. SYTT have noticed a considerable upturn in the demand for custom Jet-Skis with around 50% of our Jet-Ski sales now customised with paint and upholstery to match the mothership. People also request special features like lighting, teak decks, stereo speakers, carbon iPad mounts, trackers and more.Trends in toys How has the current pandemic affected the demand for superyacht toys and are owners using them differently than in the past?

At the end of March 2020, we had a lot of cancelled orders and a quiet month. But then we received a large number of new build orders which kept us busy so no staff were furloughed. Apart from some office and warehouse staff, we’ve been mostly working from home. Notable new build examples included the 68-metre explorer yacht Ragnar and the 74-metre Amels superyacht Synthesis. When restrictions were lifted a little in early June in France, Spain and Italy, the boating world went mad and we have had a very busy summer. The season has also continued longer than usual.Andrea yacht toysWhich do you predict will be the most popular toys in the future and why?

I would like to think that there will be a strong emphasis on eco-friendly toys, with petrol engines and low-quality plastic toys requested less. We are pushing eco-friendly toys like electric surfboards and recyclable SUPS, and also offering a rental scheme so that the toys get used more often and by more people. Our SYTT Rentals have had an excellent summer in the Med and is growing at a very fast rate.Vibrance yacht aerial with toys
