Why now?&nbsp;Utku Alanç: We have grown to be financially strong and independent, working on a no-debt policy, investing significantly in building infrastructure, personnel and innovative production technologies. Over the past seven years, we’ve proven to be the fastest growing company in Turkey, reaching four shipbuilding facilities in Antalya Free Zone, a state-of-the-art marine furniture factory and a high-end yacht management office building –&nbsp;all starting from a single shed.We’re announcing our re-entry, as we’re ready. We have been working and investing patiently to grow maturely into a shipyard fully capable of building superyachts above 500 GT and over 50 metres in length. We have new high-capacity facilities, client and representative offices, experienced engineers and skilled workforce, as well as subcontracting partners.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259990/image/large-9a2757b9a01547a8e2ef03f064d10d87.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259990">Is there a specific market segment you're targeting?&nbsp;Utku Alanç: Based on intensive market and client research with Lateral, we have determined three different lengths of 60, 70 and 80+ metres for the initial focus of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a> Superyacht Range.&nbsp;Across the whole range we’re interested in innovations, whether that’s propulsion or fuel type, or autonomy with semi or fully unmanned control infrastructures. We have a large range of innovative applications ready to integrate in our superyacht lines, such as methanol fuel, hydrogen fuel cells, solar energy, hybrid applications and autonomous features – including sail assistance, full autonomy, man overboard or man in emergency autonomy capabilities and more.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral</a> is our naval architecture and propulsion systems design partner, and we are in a tender phase for our exterior and interior design partners, with a carefully considered selection process at the moment.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/260017/image/large-9531905f7423616c3c1444bf9b4d240b.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/260017">How many projects have you signed and do you have the space to build on speculation?Utku Alanç: We have recently signed a contract for two 56 metres in length, approximately 700 GT, electric propulsion superyachts with a private company. The project is currently in the detailed design phase. We will officially announce the project together in a few months.&nbsp;I don’t like the phrase ‘built for speculation’ but I can frankly say that we have a unique 61-metre sailing yacht in production, owned by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a>. We’ve completed the steel hull works and will transfer her soon to our outfitting facilities. Have you had many conversations with clients?&nbsp;Utku Alanç: <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">Frank Neubelt</a> is a unique and very talented designer with many awards in this field. He paid a visit to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a> last year and was impressed by our new investments in yacht building and management. When he shared his 72-metre beautiful Screen superyacht, and asked us to be the build partner for her, we couldn’t resist for too long. We have not yet entered into a contract discussion however <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">GYC</a> has been in some serious discussions with prospective clients and responding to inquiries in this regard.&nbsp;Can you tell us a little more about the 47-metre concept based on the BMT 150 BOLD Class platform with&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/17" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bannenberg & Rowell Design (Company)">Bannenberg &amp; Rowell</a>. How did this project come to light?&nbsp;Matteo Magherini: <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a> and BMT, Lateral’s parent company, have a long-standing relationship as key strategic partners in the defence sector. The 48m BMT / <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a> offshore patrol vessel presented a great opportunity to leverage years of development and optimisation into a superyacht context. The original patrol vessel design was already eye-catching, but what I love the most in the B&amp;R design is the blend of feminine curves with a masculine presence. Moreover, building Spitfire at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a> is a very appealing proposition as a composite hull is available, offering a very fast track start to the project.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral</a>&nbsp;have also signed a partnership for a new range of superyachts. We would very much like to preserve and even further develop the multi-disciplinary capabilities of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Shipyard (Company)">ARES</a>. This is exactly why our motto is ‘Ideas for Big Blue!’In this direction, we have just initiated a brand new, mid-term investment in construction of a large dry dock in Antalya around 160-metres in length and with two separate halls to build and/or refit relatively large pleasure or commercial vessels at the same time, and in addition to our already existing five building facilities.
