Construction has commenced on the first 24-metre Velar 78 hull, the Naples-based shipyard Evo Yachts announced today. Modelled on the preceding Velar 70 concept designed by Valerio Rivellini in late 2019, the Velar 78 marks the evolution of Rivellini and Evo Yachts’ collaborative venture which aims to break free from convention. Due to launch in the spring of 2021, the Velar 78 features refined interior and exterior designs by Valerio Rivellini and an adapted naval architecture by Evo Yachts.Photo: Evo YachtsSpeaking about the development of the Velar concept, the Mercuri brothers from Evo Yachts commented: “After the success of our R4 and R6 models, we had for some time been looking at extending the range and adding a new series of yachts that lived up to our reputation for innovation. When we saw the Velar concept by Valerio Rivellini, our go-to designer for many years, we realised it was exactly what we were looking for. Velar is original, intelligent and cross-market, but it is also a boat that can be built using consolidated processes. We immediately reached an understanding with Valerio and the result is the Velar 78, the first model in a new series.”Photo: Evo YachtsShowcasing a minimalistic exterior, the all-GRP Velar 78 yacht incorporates distinctive features typically found on both motor and sailing yachts into her design. The yacht wheel exemplifies this by giving her owner the sensation of heading up a sailing yacht, while the helm station in the deckhouse, which is equipped with a joystick drive for easy manoeuvring, provides a sheltered alternative. With glazed surfaces and a T-top, the deckhouse can also be opened up completely.
