Corey Koopmans has joined Vicem Yachts USA – the U.S. sales and service operation for Turkish luxury classic motor yacht builder Vicem Yachts – as broker for the Fort Lauderdale sales office.
Koopmans’ “boating upbringing” on the lakes near his hometown of Holland, Mich. served him well in his professional endeavors in the yachting industry. While attending Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, Mich.) in 2000, he took a summer job as a boat detailer for Gull Lake Marine (GLM) – a full-service marina, maintenance and sales facility specializing in new and pre-owned pocket cruisers. While in this capacity, he helped create and launch the Marina’s boating detail operation, which now serves over 700 boats. Corey worked his way up the ranks of GLM, next becoming a certified Boat Delivery Captain through Cobalt Boats, and eventually an Executive Sales Representative, receiving outstanding marks on the Cobalt Customer Satisfaction Index.
In 2006, Koopmans joined Grand Craft, builders of fine mahogany runabouts based in Holland, Mich., as a Sales Associate. Six months later he was promoted to Sales Director. In his first two years with the company, Corey helped grow revenues from $1M - $5M, and quadruple annual sales. Coupled with his university studies in Business Administration and Marketing, Koopmans was promoted to VP of Sales & Marketing. In this role, he developed Grand Craft’s professional delivery and client services operations, co-founded and managed Luxe Brokerage, LLC to support Grand Craft’s pre-owned inventory, and directed the design of the company’s largest custom model, a 42’ Express Cruiser, which also was the first wooden yacht to utilize the Volvo-Penta IPS system.
Koopmans’ experience with international clientele dealings and markets will support his new role with Vicem Yachts USA, helping to promote the Vicem product line in Dubai and other areas of the Middle East.
“Corey’s extensive knowledge of this niche luxury boat market, its customer base and international appeal is an invaluable sales asset,“ said Michael Landsberg, President of Vicem Yachts USA. “His strong track record and reputation in building quality relationships with clients and making client satisfaction and support his #1 priority made him a natural fit to join the Vicem family.”
“I am extremely enthused to be working with Vicem,” remarked Koopmans. He added, ”There is clearly a sophisticated market for these traditional style, classic motor yachts. Vicem is noted for the quality of its yachts, the supremely personal approach to designing and building them, and its driving mission to achieve every client’s expectations. I am looking forward to helping Vicem continue its growth in the industry.”
Corey will move to Fort Lauderdale with his wife Bri and join the sales staff just in time to support Vicem Yachts USA’s efforts at the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show®, October 30 – November 3. In addition to receiving his Florida Yacht Brokers License, Koopmans will later on be pursuing a non-commercial, Six-Pack Captain’s License.
