In a greatly anticipated world debut, the legendary Monegasque superyacht company Wally, is set to premiere the first 27.03-metre WHY200, at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. This innovative motor yacht has turned the traditional design concept for yachts in this size category on its head, providing as much as 50% more living space, without compromising on speed. Photo: Wally The WHY200 features ground breaking naval architecture from Laurent Giles NA Ltd and Wally design team led by Luca Bassani, jointly with the Ferretti Group Engineering Department has packed this 200 GT motor yacht with some of the best innovations usually reserved for yachts with a much larger volume. This has been achieved by widening the beam of the yacht, generating more than 200 square-metres of indoor living space, as well as 144 square-metres of exterior desks. These expansive exterior decks include a dynamic beach club which expands in both width and length through the use of hydraulic platforms, opening the stern directly up to the water on three sides. This is the perfect platform for guests to enjoy everything the yacht has to offer, whether it is relaxing by the water with a book in hand, or playing in the sea with some of her toys. A crane to the starboard side fits neatly under the overhang and lifts out the tender, revealing the hidden storage for an array of tenders and toys. Once launched, the space opens up for socialising, lounging and entertaining and guests have direct access to this aft deck from the staterooms on the lower deck.Photo: Wally Photo: Wally From the beach club, stairs lead up to the main deck aft, which opens up into a wide teak floored, semi-al fresco dining space featuring spectacular sea views to the stern and leading through to the beautifully appointed saloon and interior dining room. The upper deck offers an incomparable ocean view to the stern, with sun loungers to aft, dining to port and a bar to starboard, with the wheelhouse to the fore. Undoubtedly one of the top design features of this yacht, the upper deck with its glass and carbon dome is the perfect location for spending evenings with friends and family, relaxing under the stars with a cold glass of wine. Adding to the standout aesthetic of this deck is the extension to aft which is unsupported from below, lending the yacht the characteristic angular Wally look, reminiscent of the clean lines of the world-famous Wallypower.Photo: Wally Internally, the motor yacht features four staterooms for the accommodation of as many as eight guests, with the full-beam, 37 square-metre owner’s suite situated in the bow of the main deck. This space is undoubtedly one of the standout features of the yacht, with wrap-around windows, the owner has unparalleled, 270 degree sea views from the stateroom. Not only is this space exceptionally designed, but the location in the bow guarantees limited noise levels from the engine room at the stern, ensuring comfort and restful nights for her guests. To the aft of the suite is a generous en suite with twin bathrooms and walk-in wardrobe, which is surprisingly expansive due to the increased beam of the vessel, elevating the onboard experience to a new level.Luca Bassani, Wally Founder and Chief Designer commented, “Providing owners with an elevated experience on board has always been central to our mission. We have had a longstanding vision to create a wrap-around main deck in glass that would provide so many lifestyle benefits to the owner and now finally the technology has made this possible, unlocking extra interior volume on this deck. It has allowed us to create a sensational and unprecedented 37 square-meter owner’s suite at the bow, which takes the on board experience to a whole new level. Imagine the feeling of waking up to uninterrupted 200-degree views through vast windows in the bow, as if you are floating above the water. It is a genuine marvel to behold, we are especially proud of what has been achieved with this revolutionary layout.”Photo: Wally WHY200 offers a true home on the water, exploiting the wrap-around windows in the main deck with the use of neutral, sandy tones and artful lighting which further expand the space. One of the most unique design innovations is the one-piece laminated carbon staircase, a super light element that connects the three decks and opens up the 61 square-metre main deck living area. This space is punctuated by the open plan cooking area, a central element of life onboard this superyacht.Photo: Wally Not only does the exterior and interior design of the WHY200 pack a punch, but her performance projects her above her competitors. The motor yacht’s hull has been optimised through rigorous testing for both full displacement and semi displacement cruising and despite her beam she is a quick and comfortable vessel on the water. Fin and gyroscopic stabilisers also guarantee comfort even when at anchor.Aesthetically, this sporting motor yacht brings all of Wally’s famous features to the fore. Clean lines from bow to stern, an almost vertical bow and minimalist features dividing the decks, with symmetrical windows that envelope the main living spaces, lending the vessel a modern yet timeless look.

For the team at Wally, this new model signifies a further step into the companies dominance, with Stefano de Vivo, Wally Managing Director, commenting, "We are very proud of WHY200, a yacht that was a bit of a gamble but that today rewards us with a result that exceeds our wildest expectations. With its wide body design, this 200 GT yacht offers far larger volumes compared to traditional motorboats, plus a living space and stability that are definitely greater than any competitor’s. It essentially provides all the advantages of a catamaran but has none of the limitations. This innovative yacht in terms of performance and stability was born from the brilliant vision of Wally, from the considerable experience in building hulls of the Ferretti Group, which has been designing its hulls ‘in-house’ for over 20 years, and from the collaboration with Laurent Giles Naval Architects. WHY200 is a yacht that will stand out on the international scene both for the essential design that distinguishes Wally yachts, and for its innovative concept, which can offer a different sailing experience to the owner. It is the ideal yacht to freely and safely regain possession of one's space with family and friends."
With the first of the model set to premier at the Cannes Yachting Festival from 7th-12th September, there is no doubt all eyes will be on this innovative yacht, which is set to shake up the standard for vessels under 30-metres.
