Watch: Inside Weaver’s 30m sportsfisher yacht 18 Reeler
Following the launch of its flagship model last year, Weaver Boatworks is nearing completion on the ultimate sportsfisher motor yacht 18 Reeler. Here, Captains Rick Carney and Jed Galloway comment on their first-hand experience of the vessel so far and what makes 18 Reeler a one-of-a-kind long-range family fishing resort - a must-watch for any sportsfisher fanatic.
The 29.6-metre 18 Reeler is the design work of Donald L. Blount who created an enclosed flybridge arrangement for this project. A shallow draft of 1.9 metres will get 18 Reeler into cruising grounds where other yachts of her size are unable to safely manoeuvre. Considering she will be stationed in Fort Lauderdale, this is ideal for visiting surrounding destinations such as the Keys and the Bahamas.
Fitted with two MTU 1600 M96L engines, 18 Reeler is capable of reaching 40 knots at top speed, allowing Captain Carney to reach the owner’s favourite sporting grounds without any fuss. “We can cruise between 29 and 31 knots with a consumption of 160 to 170 gallons an hour. That gives us enough range to run all the way to Bermuda without having to slow down to 10 knots overnight.”Photo: Weaver Boatworks
Inside, the luxury interior gives way to a simple yet comfortable layout of six guest staterooms and accommodation for three crew members.
Built for adventure, 18 Reeler will explore parts of the Caribbean and east coast of the US, before heading west to the Pacific towards the end of this year.
