Maarten: The provisioning approach we introduced in 2018 already filled a gap. But we saw a bigger opportunity: applying that same approach to Interior and Technical Supplies. With our own transport going directly to yachts, we avoided relying on couriers. That gave us full control and speed. Joost: Traditional suppliers are stuck in old systems. We made ourselves a promise early on: we’d only move forward if we could do it 100 percent right, with the right systems, the right people and the right expertise. Once the galley department was exactly how we envisioned it, we expanded, first to Interior, then to Technical Supplies. Every department is led by specialists who never do things halfway. Anyone can deliver an apple or a pear. What sets us apart is how we think, more like a partner than a supplier. We always start with an intake. Based on that, we create a yacht profile so we know exactly what’s needed on board. It’s like a Michelin restaurant, once you’ve been, they remember what you liked and what you didn’t. We also understand how to deliver goods in difficult countries, dealing with paperwork, local rules and customs. Our work goes far beyond logistics. We advise on ingredients and delivery locations. How do you handle provisioning in those parts of the world? Joost: Yachts are pushing into places like Antarctica, Greenland and Tahiti, and we move with them. Being a global partner means finding solutions where others see limitations. We always start by checking if commercial flights are possible; it's the most cost-effective option. If not, we look into chartered flights and handle local authorities directly. What sets us apart is that we don’t just react, we anticipate. We advise clients on the smartest provisioning locations based on their schedule and timing. Guests don’t want to take a risk and end up with poor quality. After all, when people return from holiday, there are always two questions: ‘How was the weather? ' and ‘What did you eat?’ We can’t control the weather, but we can influence the food. That’s why we sometimes recommend stocking up earlier, in ports where import is easier and quality is higher. Later, at more complex destinations, yachts can top up with fresh produce. Topping up locally with small, frequent purchases helps maintain quality. Sometimes we can’t deliver everything ourselves, and we’re honest about that. We’ll suggest a trusted local partner or share contacts. Clients want things faster, delivered more smoothly and with more personal service, all at once. Lead times are getting shorter, while in the past, there used to be more room to plan. That’s also driven by the new generation, as many people think everything is instantly available. But what most forget is that true craftsmanship takes time.&nbsp;Creating a high-quality product doesn't happen overnight. We try to anticipate that by building stock and making clear agreements with our suppliers, so they know what to expect and can prepare accordingly. But it can still be challenging to deliver the level of quality clients expect within such a short time frame. Joost: We don’t say yes to everything. We’d rather do something properly or not at all. Joost: This is my playground! We’ve explored Japan, but South Korea has recently blown us away. The products coming from there — meats, vinegars, dry goods — are incredibly refined. In many ways, they go even further than Japan in terms of quality. The yachting world has long focused on American, Australian and Japanese meats. But in the past year and a half, we’ve seen a shift. There’s a growing demand for grass-fed European options. We dove into what’s possible and found exceptional farms in Italy and Northern Spain. Carima breeds, Rubia Gallega oxen aged 15 to 16 years, offer a fantastic depth of flavour. When chefs serve that to American guests and hear, “Wow, there’s so much flavour in this,” that’s what drives me. We work with suppliers who truly care. During his years at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4876" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ferretti Group (Company)">Ferretti Group</a>, “I had always designed a strategy in refits and services,” he said, adding that while the group had successfully started expanding services in America, de Vivo felt there was significant room for growth in Europe as well.Reflecting on his experience, de Vivo noted that building a successful refit business within a shipyard is not as straightforward as it might seem. The processes “are very similar but have very different dynamics. From the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to the way you manage clients and production, it’s completely different to manage new-builds compared with refits.”After nearly eleven years at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4876" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ferretti Group (Company)">Ferretti</a>, de Vivo felt it was the right moment for change. “My time had come to change. I wanted to stay a bit more with the family and needed a new stimulus,” he stated. Through de Vivo’s multi-family office, which invests in ventures ranging from real estate to specialised businesses, an opportunity to invest in <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a> emerged. “I had the expertise, I know people in the industry and I knew Filippo because we worked together at Benetti sixteen years ago.”After reconnecting with Filippo Calcaterra, the next steps became clear. “Filippo was looking for someone to help bring the company to the next level and for financial backing. ”De Vivo had both. We had the financial backing, I really liked the industry and he is very knowledgeable, so we decided to invest and work together.”De Vivo’s family office now holds a 50 percent stake in <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a>, giving the company flexibility to combine its balance sheet strength with additional investment when the right opportunities arise. “This means we can think about growing where we need it most, like having infrastructure such as shipyards, to keep developing our refit business,” he said.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/365659/image/large-0a428f097bb64d6beaf9f2978f4e0c0a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/365659"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a>’s current strategy and focusToday, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a> is gradually expanding its in-house refit capacity in Viareggio, Italy, to strengthen its core operations. “We have a shipyard in the inland industrial area of about 3,000 square-metres, and we’ve just rented another one of about 1,500 square-metres attached to it,” de Vivo explained. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a> has also secured a long-term concession for a plot in Via Coppino. “We’ve received the go-ahead from the authorities in Italy to start demolishing the old building and build a shipyard of about 1,000 square metres so we can work on yachts up to 42-metres.”While <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a> is expanding its ability to carry out refit projects in-house, de Vivo acknowledged that refits of larger yachts require bigger facilities with direct access to the water. “For bigger yachts, we use larger shipyards, especially <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5323" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arpeca Shipyard (Company)">Arpeca</a> in Viareggio and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/895" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lusben Shipyard (Company)">Lusben</a> in Livorno and shipyards in the south of France,” he said. “This year we worked on over 30 refit projects including an 80-metre, a 77-metre and a 73-metre at other yards. The goal is to secure long-term leases or acquire plots of land close to the sea so that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a> can handle more large projects on its own.”He noted that apart from its current sites in Viareggio, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a> still depends on its network of trusted partners for larger projects. “We have to use other shipyards, which is fine because we have some of the best players in the industry at our doorstep. But if you want to keep growing, you cannot rely on others all the time. It would be good to have a balance between using others and doing it on our premises.”State of the refit marketLooking at the wider refit market, de Vivo believes that yacht refit has evolved considerably over the past few decades and is poised for further growth. “Refit has for many years already involved large-scale projects. You go from normal maintenance or five-year class renewals all the way up to completely rebuilding boats from the 1920s,” he remarked. “But I think it’s increasing because we’ve been producing a lot of yachts over 30 or 40-metres in the last 25 to 30 years, and now many of these are being bought second-hand and refitted rather than commissioning new-builds.”De Vivo elaborated: “Many people prefer to buy a second-hand yacht and spend the money to make it theirs, just like with houses. Not everyone buys new. You buy an existing house and change the look and feel to make it yours.”&nbsp;Sustainability is another area where de Vivo sees refit playing a key role. “Green solutions will be implemented more and more on existing yachts. It can be small things like better insulation to reduce energy needs, all the way through to bigger steps.” He is prepared for everything; “one day there will be alternative kinds of propulsion that can be retrofitted on yachts and superyachts built in the last 20 years.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/365657/image/large-5edd2422b38fcbd57f6719aec50b079a.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/365657">Future developmentsAside from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a>’s focus on expanding its physical facilities for in-house refit projects, de Vivo explained that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd. (Company)">WOSA</a> also has several ongoing projects on the survey side. “We work with the biggest players on the client side, the owner side and the shipyard side to help develop and improve quality levels, finishing standards and procedures.” But de Vivo remains secretive when it comes to the survey side, “right now we cannot share full details. We have some developments that are already ongoing, but we cannot disclose exactly what they involve.”In addition, De Vivo has expansion plans that reach beyond Europe. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wosa ltd.
