14 months into the 24-month build period of its new 55-metre superyacht Al Waab II, construction on the Vripack-designed project remains on schedule according to Alia Yachts.Al Waab II yacht in buildPhoto: Alia Yachts

Alia Yachts joined the hull and superstructure of the project in June this year, just in time for a visit from the yacht’s owner in August. Two of the three decks are now complete, with the hull primed and ready for its top coat finish in January. Al Waab II yacht in buildPhoto: Alia Yachts

Like all shipyards in the business, Alia too had to deal with Covid-19 restrictions throughout the year, said Gökhan Çelik, President of Alia Yachts.  “It’s been difficult, to say the least, but we've taken a lot of health and safety measures, followed up with our suppliers to mitigate any delays, and, most importantly, have reorganised and reshuffled our production work. To offset delays experienced by our European suppliers, we worked around the problem and found ways to recreate lost time.”Al Waab II yacht exterior designPhoto: Alia Yachts

Project Manager Elkin Yildirim explains: “This allows us to run nearly 5km of cable in five days. We are constantly finding new solutions and ways of working in line with the current conditions, which means we haven’t postponed any element of the project. We are 14 months into the build, and confident of continuing this level of progress.”Al Waab II yacht exterior designPhoto: Alia Yachts

Vripack is responsible for the design and engineering of the entire project while the Arabian-based SF Yachts is serving as owner’s representative during the build. The sub-500 GT Al Waab II can sleep up to 12 guests in six staterooms and includes a lavish split-level master suite on the upper deck.
