The project was conceived after inquiries to develop an alternative to the UK-based studio’s Thor Explore concept. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/247218/image/large-d77b8a4923083b7b9ae0a3132be4358c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/247218">Apollo is a rugged explorer penned with masculine exterior lines, which have been developed to ensure that guests can enjoy astounding views while underway. The superyacht has a 17-metre beam and can accommodate up to 16 guests and 40 crew. Award-winning French yacht designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/53" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Philippe Briand Ltd. (Company)">Philippe Briand</a> has unveiled the first renderings of his new 60-metre sailing yacht concept Kaze. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a> has unveiled the first renderings for a new 48.5-metre superyacht concept. The motor yacht was designed with a specific owner in mind who was looking for a more spacious design from his current 35-metre yacht.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/260720/image/large-2e9f6b915b88c880e8684f344ab2c08d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/260720">The strictly displacement hull measures 48.5-metres in overall length, which becomes 46-metres at the waterline. Construction began on the superyacht in 2020 as a speculation project and the hull was first seen in August 2022. C127 features a fast displacement hull optimised to reach top speeds of 21 knots, and has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. The sold <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2612" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Otam (Company)">OTAM</a> yacht has an expected delivery in 2025.&nbsp;The owner, who is not just “an expert owner but also has experience as a captain,” supplied the Genoa-based shipyard with customised specifications, including expansive windows to envelope the boat with natural light and a “detailed list of technical and aesthetic requests.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263522/image/large-77da9293d81bfb2529b9c143f8a9323d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263522">The custom-built 80HT comprises a hull and deck, which will be laminated in full Kevlar, while the superstructure is constructed from carbon fibre. British design studio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4359" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Gresham Yacht Design (Company)">Gresham Yacht Design</a>has unveiled its latest concept: the 100-metre expedition superyacht Thor Explore.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/172580/image/large-3376c59fff50d4ae48905afa271c5e9b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/172580">A go-anywhere ice-classed explorer, the design process behind Thor Explore began from the interior and worked outwards, resulting in internal spaces which directly inform the exterior design - which includes large nautilus windows as a key feature.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/170901/image/large-3ca5bc1838a626078c8628d6ea6b3be7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/170901"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/170916/image/large-694d1fd67cace46694dc8c6c1d4a1508.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/170916">The main deck features a light and spacious saloon with double-height windows for panoramic ocean views, an eye-catching central lighting feature and a floating glass floor which is supported by exposed structural beams.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/170910/image/large-5810c5fb4e283cfcd809d0917a22612e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/170910"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/170917/image/large-3ef78426b1eee2d404291751f86df2e3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/170917">The upper level of the saloon can be used as a mission control centre by owner and guests for planning their adventures. A sunken seating area can be found in the centre of this space, with a glass floor which can be turned opaque at the flick of a switch to separate the top level from the lower level of the main saloon. The seating area also comes equipped with a bar and lounge bed.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/170912/image/large-36c4402eedd249f62c22b4f927c5f341.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/170912"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/172588/image/large-3940ef24299b4f84c4fb160aa53a2868.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/172588">A standout area on board Thor Explore can be found in the 18-metre full-beam beach club, which is connected to the saloon via a circular corridor with a floor-to-ceiling aquarium, with fold down balconies and access to the large tender garage. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/170914/image/large-4878499d03bacb3886a5648dff9ef3b3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/170914">Designed with adventurous exploration in mind, the vessel's 'tender hangar' has space to hold a 12.5-metre custom tender, hydrofoil, speedboat, submarine, a whole host of kite and wind surfing equipment, surf boards and jet skis.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/172586/image/large-b9490cdb117fa9655f74c4a386c847cc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/172586"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/172579/image/large-b6b7745f709076e779bd5ed9619fa2dc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/172579">In addition, a decompression centre can also be found on board. The motor sailing yacht harks back to a golden era of yachting, with three billowing sails that proudly display the Union Jack. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/238624/image/large-eb3221a598642982e76aaf604d286230.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/238624">In an interview, Steve Gresham, Owner &amp; Design Director of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4359" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Gresham Yacht Design (Company)">Gresham Yacht Design</a>, laments “that this is not a Royal Yacht, it’s a National Flagship. And as such, having sailing credentials of being ecological and green is such an important feature.”&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4359" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Gresham Yacht Design (Company)">Gresham Yacht Design</a> first proposed the design in 2020, well ahead of the competition outlined by 10 Downing Street in May of 2021 to replace the decommissioned Royal Yacht Britannia. During Theresa May’s premiership, it was stated that: <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/238620/image/large-28b24ae4037f9631d81d89073c5f13f7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/238620">“This new national flagship will be the first vessel of its kind in the world, reflecting the UK’s burgeoning status as a great, independent maritime trading nation. Every aspect of the ship, from its build to the businesses it showcases onboard, will represent and promote the best of British – a clear and powerful symbol of our commitment to be an active player on the world stage.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/238623/image/large-58241a1cfb543023eda03faf24321b55.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/238623">The concept proposed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4359" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Gresham Yacht Design (Company)">Gresham Yacht Design</a> certainly fitted the bill – and notably it was one of, if not the only, sailing yacht proposed to be commissioned for the National Flagship. Christened Project Albion, the proposed National Flag Ship is an impressive 118-metre tri-masted sailing yacht.&nbsp;“The team at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4359" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Gresham Yacht Design (Company)">Gresham Yacht Design</a> sharpened its pencils in 2020 and got to work to create their vision for this prestigious vessel,” Gresham told SYT. “With a strong belief that the National Flagship should harness the power of wind, the concept for a large sailing vessel was born and has been developed from there.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/238625/image/large-2649f27f8397053674d3a069de09d86c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/238625">“This design incorporates a large double-height atrium with office and meeting room spaces for practical and official use when moored at home, abroad or at special events,” Gresham continued. “The vision for the interior would be functional and engineered to be as environmentally conscious as possible, using wind and hybrid power for sailing.”Some of the National Flagship’s standout features include a capacious ballroom, two helipads and a hydrogen limousine tender. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/238621/image/large-7132133dae074bd41e05f90df248b5cf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/238621">“The National Flagship project is a very exciting proposition and would be an unmatched opportunity to demonstrate the best of British talent to the world,” Gresham concluded. “It would be an opportunity to create a versatile and multifunctional vessel that could be used for official events and exhibitions alongside private meetings and dinners for government officials and dignitaries.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/238622/image/large-a804706923eb272ac48f382c0465881d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/238622">
