A fire broke out at Loano Marina on board the 28.9-metre yacht Lady Vanilla on Friday 2 October. The local firefighters were soon on the scene and continued to fight the flames for over two hours before the 2002 Custom Line yacht was finally extinguished. All neighbouring yachts were moved away from the fire and nobody was reported injured.
It is thought that the fire might have been caused by some batteries overheating in the yacht’s engine room. The fire occurred during a period of very bad weather in the area, with 50-knot winds fanning the flames which left Lady Vanilla burned down to the waterline.
