Another example, we were privileged to see the cutting-edge maxi Flying Nikka, a 19-metre articulated foiler built by an Italian team and designed to exceed 40 knots at top speed.”Superyacht Challenge Antigua (March 2024) Serving as a welcome kick-off to the regatta season each year is the Superyacht Challenge Antigua. Held annually in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nelson’s Dockyard, the race begins and ends just off English Harbour and is made up of daily pursuit races, as well as an optional race around the island.Famous for its laid-back atmosphere, those competing in the Superyacht Challenge Antigua are divided into three classes (buccaneers, corsairs and privateers) and are awarded Caribbean barrels of rum for their successes. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/219539/image/large-eda4015f563d6bef20bdd258c92d9401.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/219539">The Superyacht Challenge Antigua is the perfect event for racing newbies, as Co-founder Paul Deeth explains: “You will find great racing in a relaxed and friendly setting which is ideal for owners experiencing superyacht racing for the first time. Come for the racing, stay for the nightlife, as event organiser and co-founder François Tolède explains: “Every evening the race village vibrates with incredible concerts and projections of the day's races on a massive screen. The 33rd edition of the premier classic sailing event, Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, came to a close this weekend after three days of racing in the Caribbean. The event attracts a variety of world-class sailors from across the world who compete in several races.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/222460/image/large-bf655c2a61384e342f385a4d0e290d5c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/222460">This year’s event saw the single-handed race on Thursday being cancelled due to strong winds. The judging panel of four assessed the entries for the Concours D'Elegance with gold winners including Juno, Windbreker, Ticonderoga, Seefalke II, Freya of Midgard, New Moon and Montana. The Arne Frissel award for the most seaworthy and timeless vessel went to the 34.14-metre sailing schooner <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7315" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vela34.14m (112'0&quot;)Marsun2020">Vela</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/222461/image/large-6c5eb60c78e92a7ca038eefa335e0d1d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/222461"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/222457/image/large-74569efe43e1d66c241fa6894da7faa6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/222457">Friday saw the first race, Old Road, take place with strong winds of up to 35 knots making it hard work for competitors. The final class winners were the beautiful 34.8-metre schooner <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2101" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Aschanti IV of Vegesack34.8m (114'2&quot;)Burmester1954">Aschanti IV</a>, the classic sloop Alani&nbsp;who was competing in her first Classics, the traditional Carriacou work boat Genesis, the 1936 vintage Seefalke II, the 2009 Spirit of Tradition yawl <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7754" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bequia27.61m (90'7&quot;)Brooklin Boat Yard 2009">Bequia</a>, the Klaus Roder staysail ketch <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3922" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Chronos54.0m (177'2&quot;)Ark Yacht2013">Chronos</a> and the historic LJ Windward.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/222458/image/large-ee5a29ba2239260800a99cb9aeb162c6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/222458">On Saturday the winds continued to test the classic boats and their crews. The Butterfly course saw the Alfred Mylne sloop The Blue Peter win the vintage class. The 1973 S&amp;S Swan Montana beat the rest of the fleet in the historic class. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7754" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bequia27.61m (90'7&quot;)Brooklin Boat Yard 2009">Bequia</a> continued her winning streak from the previous day and came first again in the Spirit of Tradition class, as did <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2101" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Aschanti IV of Vegesack34.8m (114'2&quot;)Burmester1954">Aschanti IV</a> in the schooner class. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/222456/image/large-154fc58a0bc9beee873d962db86ed618.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/222456">The final day saw the Windward Race at Rendezvous Bay determine the final winners. The Nat Benjamin gaff schooner Juno managed to secure the top spot on the schooner class beating the previous champion <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2101" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Aschanti IV of Vegesack34.8m (114'2&quot;)Burmester1954">Ashanti IV</a>. With a longtime enthusiasm for and technical background in yachting, it's safe to say that Niall Robinson is a veteran to the yachting industry. After co-founding <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hill Robinson (Company)">Hill Robinson</a> in 2000, a prominent yacht management company, Robinson has grown the company substantially, including a recent acquisition of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/808" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Moravia Yachting (Company)">Moravia Yachting</a>. Superyacht Times sat down with Niall Robinson to learn more about one of the men behind <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hill Robinson (Company)">Hill Robinson</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/196690/image/large-8402d68e601aa7a32432149ebb3149fe.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/196690">How did you get into yachting as a career?After coming down from Brasenose College at Oxford University where I read Physics, I began working in IT, but I hadn’t taken a year out and just felt I hadn’t had my adventure yet! One way to get that out of my system was to build on my love of sailing, which began on our family yacht Brynhilde. So, with my fresh new Yachtmaster Certificate in my hands and with wild optimism in my heart, I set off on a yacht delivery bound for Antigua. Once there, I went to the most beautiful yacht in the harbour, the schooner <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2101" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Aschanti IV of Vegesack34.8m (114'2&quot;)Burmester1954">Aschanti IV of Vegesack</a>, formerly Ashanti of Saba, offered to work the season for free and just kept going from there. In the career at sea that followed, my adventures led me to race on maxis, sail on some magnificent motor and sailing yachts and to cruise many of the more popular seas and oceans of the world, working my way up to captain over the years. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/196689/image/large-dc2874c5f8c98a21f3280f9627be4c2f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/196689">How did you meet your business partner, Nick Hill?When the beautiful and exciting schooner Jessica arrived in Newport, Rhode Island, they had to let a deckhand go and Nick, as First Officer, had to find an immediate replacement and the only candidate was me! Jessica’s master was the legendary John Bardon, under whom I went on to serve aboard the equally impressive schooner <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/921" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Creole65.3m (214'3&quot;)Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard1927">Creole</a>. John’s example of trust in his team combined with calm leadership and ready guidance has remained one of the most significant influences on me ever since, as it has for Nick too. Many years later, Nick and I were very proud when John agreed to join us as Director of our Palma de Mallorca office.&nbsp;What brought you to shore?After bringing the schooner <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1151" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Invader49.9m (163'9&quot;)Codecasa S.p.A.1999">Invader</a> over from Curacao to Palma Mallorca – an adventure in itself, and after marrying Sue, now my wife of 27 years, it was time to begin my next adventure – family life and a ‘real’ job ashore. I’d been speaking to Peter Insull for several years by then, and he kindly took me on to strengthen his dedicated yacht management division. In my more than four years with Peter, I learned so much and I’m proud to say that we remain friends to this day.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/196691/image/large-7a063939aec51a01513b9647430f6711.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/196691">What prompted you to found Hill Robinson?By the year 2000, yacht management was getting more complicated, more resource-hungry, and at the same time more professional, interesting and respected. We could see that things were only going to continue that way and that the time was right for a dedicated management company. By then, Nick was working ashore armed with an MBA from Imperial College in addition to his MA in Geography from Girton College, Cambridge. He’d just left <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/192" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard (Company)">Camper &amp; Nicholson’s</a>, where he’d founded and run the new charter marketing division. Nick and I had been talking for years about doing something together and decided that the time was right to launch <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hill Robinson (Company)">Hill Robinson</a>. The first company was formed 20 years ago in London on 8th December 2000, and Karl Hartmann joined us as partner and shareholder in 2015. &nbsp;We never dreamed that it could grow to be so successful.What achievement are you most proud of?<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hill Robinson (Company)">Hill Robinson</a> is all about teamwork, and I’d say that my part in creating this amazing team is what makes me proudest. She had a major refit in 1991-1994 at Lürssen. Comprehensive works were performed on her hull and rigging – now using american spruce – and installing up to date technology, amongst others electrical and hydraulic winches. The yacht was seen last month at the Voiles de Saint Tropez.Aschanti IV of Vegasack is for sale with Dahm International, asking € 4,950,000.

Eleven beautiful sailing yachts, including 6 super yachts up to 41 metres in size, met from 30th of May to the 2nd of June 2013 at the 26th Club Yachting Life International Regatta (CYLI) hosted by dahm international. The Monaco based brokerage company is the only one in the world to host such a yearly sailing event for its clients. SuperYachtTimes.com editor Maarten sailed along on board Inspiration.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/145189/image/large-97e8fc8f3bfcaaa048b77d5c505d7dc7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145189">This year, Port Adriano was the starting point for the first race day from Mallorca to Cabrera. During the land-based social program, 80 participants enjoyed their get-together – yacht owners with friends, families, their captains and crews. On Thursday evening (30th of May), Herbert Dahm, his team and the sponsors first invited all participants to a Welcome Reception at Bruno’s, a restaurant and bar in the marina Port Adriano. The impressive CYLI fleet was displayed right in front of the restaurant.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/145190/image/large-c0d30c914618a3fb990473491f5f6a57.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145190">On Friday morning, 31st of May, the official Captain’s Briefing at the Tandem Bar took place and came to the decision to delay the start for an hour due to the slightly stronger winds. Finally the yachts set sail to gather close to the starting line outside the port. Spectators along the waterfront witnessed 11 of the finest sailing yachts, mainly Jongert builds, leaving Philip Starck designed Port Adriano.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/145191/image/large-39d8137e9196b19d4952f84c62704012.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145191">The first race leg was accompanied by a mix of sun, clouds and strong but stable winds, which resulted in maximum speeds of more than 12 knots. Final destination for that day was the bay of Cabrera. The Jongert Ithaka was the first to arrive, after an almost perfect start. In the ketch class the schooner Aschanti IV won the first leg. After a relaxing afternoon aboard, owners and guests met for a drink and pleasant sunset at the Taberna del Puerto.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/145192/image/large-932068a16561f487235ed19959678c5b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145192">After a delightful night at anchor, Saturday, 1st June, greeted all participants again with blue skies and splendid wind conditions. The support tender Chapruksi marked the starting line for the second race leg outside the bay. Due to the onshore wind direction the schedule had to be changed on short notice. Instead of sailing around Cabrera and finishing in Es Trenc the race committee decided to alter the course and head directly to Palma de Mallorca with the finishing line at Cabo Blanco. The decision served the weather condition right.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/145193/image/large-e7e80b9805d2c9493c78b3c52eb4f9d8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145193">Jongert 2200s Inspiration with Herbert Dahm at the helm - sailing non competitive - was first to arrive, following a bumpy crossing, closely followed by Jongert 2700M Ithaka and Jongert 2200s Toro del Mar. The ketch class again saw Aschanti IV passing the finish first, followed by Jongert 40T Infatuation and Jongert 25ds Sea Shuttle.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/145194/image/large-4cc361df4512b567a45a472fe8a9e7e1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145194">Nevertheless the evening went as planned – taking the party to the beautiful location of the Beach Restaurant “Es Trenc” by bus and taxi. During the cocktail reception the party enjoyed the magnificent view across the dunes. After a beach barbecue dinner on the patio a salsa band animated many of the guests to dance to the live music. The 34.80 metre Aschanti IV of VegasackThe 34.80 metre <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2101">Aschanti IV of Vegasack</a> was built in 1954 by the German Burmester yard in Bremen.
