The 47-metre Wider motor yacht Bartali for sale and is the fourth-largest built by the yard.

At the 2019 <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2019">Monaco Yacht Show</a> Marcello Maggi, co-founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> in 2001, announced that he had acquired the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> brand together with two investment partners, Zepter Group and Hopafi Holding. Then the Covid pandemic hit and things went quiet. During the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/97" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2021">Monaco Yacht Show 2021</a> he gathered a few members of the press together to announce further developments.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/207541/image/large-597c8f0860dff00023e8111b3b0bf779.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/207541">“The pandemic inevitably brought things to a halt, but I used the time to re-invest in human resources and develop new products in preparation for relaunching the brand,“ he told those attending.Maggi announced plans to start the series production of fibreglass boats, including catamarans, alongside full-custom superyacht construction in steel/aluminium at a new facility near Ancona. (Company)">Wider</a> Propulsion Management System) that also makes use of the latest generation photovoltaic cells for additional energy capacity. When in 2013 Marcello Maggi walked away from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a>, the shipyard he had co-founded with Gianluca Fenucci, he set up as an independent yacht consultant and broker in Monaco. At the beginning of July he once again became a yacht builder by acquiring the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> shipyard in his hometown of Ancona, together with two investment partners. Just days after the transfer of ownership was confirmed, we sat down with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. Exa Ltd, a subsidiary of Genting Hong Kong Ltd, took over ownership of Wider after the departure in May 2017 of its founder and CEO, Tilli Antontelli] was looking to get out of medium-size yacht building and the risk was that the brand would simply disappear. I thought the company had achieved so much that it couldn’t just fade away, so I started thinking seriously about what could be done to save the brand. Buying the shipyard was the logical next step.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/3030/image/large-ac174b079bbd86bb6cb3743614628d13.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/3030"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/3043/image/large-dfa78401315721f6d3c923f8ec35578b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/3043">You have a 57 per cent stake in Wider, but tell us more about your investment partners, Zepter Group and Hopafi Holding.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2270" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Philip Zepter Yachts (Company)">Philip Zepter</a> is a yacht owner, disruptor and entrepreneur who I’ve known for more than 20 years. Innovation is at the core of many of his high-tech companies like Swisso Logical, Bioptron and Tesla Hyperlight Optics. He also sea trialled the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/YachtModel/6660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider 16549.98m (163'12&quot;)">Wider 165</a> and was impressed. Tiziano Giovannetti is another entrepreneur and a childhood friend from the Ancona region. He’s CEO of the sustainable energy company Fintel Energia, which is part of his family’s Hopafi Holding group. Both partners are committed to technological innovation and long-term investment in Wider, but more importantly, we all believe that electric propulsion is the future of yachting.&nbsp;When I left <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a> I started investing in renewable energy and I’m also consulting for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5188" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silent Yachts (Company)">Silent Yachts</a>, which is building its latest solar-powered catamarans in Italy. Norway has already proposed a ban on heavy fuels and scrubbers in its fjords, and others will follow suit soon. I think it’s absurd that superyachts are burning thousands of litres of diesel just to keep their generators running at anchor. That’s just not cool anymore. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/91051/image/large-eccb6c434597b22857c486850ce4a539.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/91051">All the same, hybrid superyachts are still a rarity and ultimately Wider failed to capture the imagination of the marketplace.&nbsp;I think that will change. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> was ahead of its time when it launched the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/YachtModel/6659" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider 15047.05m (154'4&quot;)">Wider 150</a> in 2015. The market is much more familiar with hybrid technology now from what’s happening in the automotive world. When you buy a car today, you seriously consider a hybrid or electric model. The same will happen with yachts and when I showed a long-standing client around the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/YachtModel/6660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider 16549.98m (163'12&quot;)">Wider 165</a>, he told me it was the first time in 30 years he’d seriously considered buying on impulse. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/48417/image/large-d2298af88470aa9928d1f8ab880d74f1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/48417"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/48406/image/large-060214958758b7f0a3b2ed39ea233838.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/48406">The other issue for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> was that they had little experience of displacement superyachts, which in terms of layout and amenities are very different from planing yachts. On the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/YachtModel/6660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider 16549.98m (163'12&quot;)">Wider 165</a>, for example, the owner’s suite in the middle of the main deck, and the relatively small sundeck, didn’t live up to the expectations of the displacement market. I think the forward engine room compartment and the open-air lounge on the foredeck, which is in full view of the crew on the bridge, are other questionable features in a conservative industry unused to lots of changes all at the same time. These are factors that may have delayed further sales, but <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> sowed the seeds and now is the time to reap the rewards.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/2990/image/large-ab304bb06bb42cab4501730936db8c1a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/2990">So how will the Wider product change under the new ownership?We have a clear step-by-step plan for how we want to move forward. First and foremost, we want to continue as pioneers in hybrid technology for yachts. We’re starting with <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/yacht-wider-180" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">a new 54-metre project</a> of around 820 gross tons that will be presented at the <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2019">Monaco Yacht Show</a>. The exterior styling by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Andrea Vallicelli (Company)">Andrea Vallicelli</a> is very much in the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> vein and the interior design is by Michele Lubrano, a young independent designer formerly employed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> who is returning as chief of our in-house style department. The drive-in tender garage will remain and house a Wider 32 or 42, but here too there will be an exciting development that will be revealed when we unveil the project. &nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/99308/image/large-63b37539e3f0e3c8182653eb0455825d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/99308">The big change is on the technical front. We’re keeping the same basic hybrid system and podded propulsion, but instead of four generators the new 54-metre yacht will have just one in a technical compartment amidships on the lower deck, plus an emergency generator for get-home power. A battery bank will provide 10 hours of silent, emission-free cruising at 10 knots, or electrical power for hotel loads at anchor for up to 30 hours. Moreover, it can be fully recharged in just one hour.&nbsp;Smaller displacement models will follow of around 108, 120 and 135 feet, based on the same engineering platform with hybrid propulsion. We also have changes planned for the Wider 32 and 42 runabouts, while for superyachts over 250 feet we have an agreement with Genting to build at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1075" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lloyd Werft (Company)">Lloyd Werft</a>, its shipyard in Germany.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/99306/image/large-fb0e289eb102999866a8886e35fa62ac.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/99306">Do you already have a prospective client for the first unit, or are you prepared to start building on spec?I have one of two clients in mind, but we’re also ready to build on spec. We want to compete with the top Dutch brands and to do that we have to focus on quality rather than quantity. Ideally, I’d like to have two projects in build and a third in the pre-engineering phase. In three years’ time, I think we’ll have something very special to present to the market. In the long term, the idea is to be able to sell our hybrid know-how and technology on to other shipyards, and list the company on the stock exchange.&nbsp;How does it feel to be building yachts again in Ancona?I’m a lot more relaxed about it now that I was just before the acquisition! I realise we’re taking a risk and have a responsibility to the workforce, but we can stay on our feet with one project in build. Although I’m from Ancona, my business is in Monaco. I’ll be visiting the shipyard every couple of weeks, but I don’t want it to depend on me. I have a very talented workforce in place that can take care of the day-to-day running of the company. (Company)">Wider</a> brand and shipyard in Ancona has been acquired by Monaco-based group Nautical Hybrid Tech, headed up by Marcello Maggi, in partnership with Zepter Group and Hopafi Holding Srl.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/86236/image/large-8e8183f7cee61ecad2ad26d667328fe0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/86236">Spearheaded by Maggi, the initiative means the co-founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA (International Shipyard Ancona)</a> will once again be building superyachts in his hometown in Italy, although as <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. (Company)">Wider</a> President and Sales &amp; Marketing Director he will continue to be based in Monaco.&nbsp;“I’m very thrilled to take this new challenge and honoured to be part of the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. It controls two publicly listed companies in Italy and eastern Europe, as well as interests in companies related to energy and sustainability such as Fintel Energy Group.&nbsp;“As someone already investing in renewable energy, I firmly believe that the future of yachting is electric,”&nbsp;says Maggi, who is also working with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5188" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silent Yachts (Company)">Silent Yachts</a> to build solar-powered catamarans at a shipyard in Marotta near Ancona. “Besides the incredibly high level of the management team and staff,&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wider s.r.l. Italian shipyard Wider, builder of the 49m Cecilia, has been sold to Marcello Maggi, Philip Zepter and the Giovannetti family.

The 49.98-metre wider 165 Cecilia launched in May, and is undergoing final fitting out prior to sea trials expected to start this week. SuperYacht Times visited the yacht in Ancona for a sneak preview.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/37956/image/large-e502d8528d6b4f2778c9daa65406eedc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/37956">In many ways, the Wider 165 Cecilia is a sister ship to the award-winning Wider 150 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4864" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bartali47.05m (154'4&quot;)">Bartali</a> launched in 2016. Her muscular exterior styling by Fulvio De Simoni is immediately recognisable and she is based on the same naval platform, although the extra hull length has optimised her gross tonnage to just below the 500GT threshold.The yacht also features the same diesel-electric propulsion package, comprising four variable speed generators connected to alternators that produce electricity to power the pods with contra-rotating propellers (CRPs). Energy can also be stored in Lithium battery banks, allowing the yacht to cruise in silent zero-emission mode (ZEM) or run the hotel loads at anchor. At the time of our visit, the power management system was hooked up to load banks on the dock for testing.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/34907/image/large-f48cd862f764b9ee208598c0e2ea2548.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/34907"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/34906/image/large-62274853ca31a995ab51adebcc6be7cf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/34906">However, critical elements of the engineering, layout and design have been tweaked to improve the operation of the yacht and further increase comfort for owners and guests. &nbsp;&nbsp;The layout of the technical areas, for example, is very different. The 150 has two technical rooms, one forward and another amidships. But on the 165 the power management system, generators and battery banks are all housed in a split-level compartment in the bow for a more rational installation of the high-voltage system and shorter cable runs. The yacht further benefits from last-generation EST-Floattech batteries and upgraded software for the power management system.Another difference is the float-in tender garage. As on the 150, this doubles as a beach club and is designed to drive in a Wider 32 by lifting up the aft platform on hydraulic rams. But on the 165 the space is also set up to house a U-Boat Worx Super Yacht Sub 3.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/34904/image/large-665c706e9f696228896a23d231ed81bd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/34904">“The mini-sub option was a request of the owner from the start,” says Jeremy Roche, Wider’s sales &amp; marketing director. “The challenge was that its draft is too deep to drive it in or out like the tender. Sideloading was also out of the question as it weighs nearly four tonnes, which you don’t want hanging off the side of the boat.”Instead, the shipyard opted for a gantry train that lifts the sub and carries it beyond the stern of the yacht. This crane is a very visible piece of hardware that reduces the head height in the garage above the tender pool, but Roche points out that in case of resale, it could be easily removed and the mini-sub dock converted into a dive centre, hammam, or similar.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/26006/image/large-344743a5030eed5ab28f5f20c3ccb9ac.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/26006">Whereas on the 150 the main deck owner’s suite was full-beam with a forward bathroom, on the 165 the cabin and bathroom are split along the centreline. The apartment also features a private sauna, gym, study and two fold-down balconies.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/2894/image/large-02849c4a8626fd04d81bd9d2dd012e10.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/2894"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/26007/image/large-8f155dccc50091b42e3b4ff680c9de72.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/26007">Another improvement is that the exterior main deck is on a single flush level, so guests can walk from the aft deck to the forward lounge/dinette, hot tub and helipad without having to reconnoitre any steps.&nbsp;The sundeck, which now overhangs the side companionways on the deck below, is around two metres wider than on the 150. This provides appreciably more space, especially for the fixed sunbeds around the forward hot tub.&nbsp;The open upper deck and sky lounge has proved one of the most popular areas aboard the 150, and on her larger cousin, the room has been further improved with sliding glass doors on both sides for easier access to the side decks and more exposure to sea breezes. &nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/2890/image/large-c665b687d5801a2c632d720a2545861a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/2890">The interior design is again by Ideaitalia, but this time the young La Spezia-based studio chose limed oak that has been sacrificed to accentuate the grain before being laid in contrasting panels to create a 3D effect. The soft sheen of burnished copper for the stairwell, polished stainless steel accents and a selection of Calacatta, Bronze Armani and pure white Tassos marble, come together to create a fresh but warm interior ambience.Overall, Wider 165 benefits from a series of smart technical and layout improvements that have resulted in a more rational design with less of the prototype-feel of its predecessor. Some high-tech but arguably unnecessary features found on the 150, such as the automated hardtop canopy covering the lounge area on the foredeck and fold–away pilot’s chair on the bridge, have sensibly been done away with. The result is a vessel that finesses many of the avant-garde features and, of course, the diesel-electric propulsion that Wider has so firmly pinned its marketing hopes on.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/23988/image/large-1742a15f6fccdfa6abdc8b128cf23865.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/23988">There remains a question mark over the future of the Wider brand after the 165 is delivered in August. Like the 150, Wider’s Malaysian investor whose holding company owns several shipyards active in the cruise ship sector, including Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH in Germany, commissioned Cecilia.&nbsp;Following restructuring last year, a representative from Lloyd Werft was installed as managing director of Wider. The company is giving nothing away, but the rumour on the dock is that the brand and shipyard are for sale and at least one serious offer is undergoing negotiation.Cecilia will make her international debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September and is for sale at €30,000,000.

Wider 165 Cecilia approaches completion

First announced in early 2014 that Wider is building a new 50-metre superyacht project, the Ancona shipyard has kept the industry in suspense for over four years as the Wider 165 motor yacht known as Cecilia took shape in her build shed. The yacht was launched and christened yesterday in the presence of shipyard staff and project collaborators in Ancona, Italy.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/34902/image/large-a891a20fbb38bd06f6272e455e158094.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/34902"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/34903/image/large-636cdcff6943fbb96ba009d3ca71e33b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/34903">As the shipyard’s second project to date following the success of the 47-metre Wider 150 (now named <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4864" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bartali47.05m (154'4&quot;)">Bartali</a>) that was launched in November 2015, Cecilia too is based on an advanced hybrid diesel/electric propulsion system that has its origins from the commercial sector. A sophisticated power management system allows hotel systems to run on cleaner energy when required.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/34904/image/large-665c706e9f696228896a23d231ed81bd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/34904">The sub-500 GT vessel is the design work of Fulvio De Simoni with Idealtalia having designed the interior layout together with the owner’s team. Launched: Wider unveils 50m flagship Cecilia in Ancona

Sold in December last year, the 47.05-metre superyacht recently christened Bartali has been delivered to her new Canadian owner. Built by the Italian yard Wider and completed in 2016, Bartali features exterior design from Fulvio de Simoni, with her contemporary interior coming from IdeaItalia, who worked together with the Wider in-house design team.

Having completed works at the Ancona based shipyard to customise the yacht to her new owner’s specific wishes, including the addition of a new walk-in-wardrobe in the master stateroom and changes to the galley, Bartali will soon depart to the Cote D’Azur where her new owners plan to move aboard for the season.

“This is a significant milestone in the history of the shipyard,” says Michael Hackman, Executive Vice President - Marine Operations with Genting Hong Kong and interim Chairman of Wider. “The Wider 150 represents a number of firsts both to us and the yachting industry as a whole. We believe the Diesel Electric propulsion system installed on board – the first time this has been done on a yacht of this size – is the future of yachting. The multiple benefits this system offers clients, among them low noise and vibration but equally the reduced carbon footprint thanks to her remarkable fuel efficiency is increasingly appealing to customers. The automotive market has transformed client’s outlook, a growing segment of the market is looking for increasingly green solutions.”

At the shipyard, work continues with the construction of the Wider 165, project Cecilia, which remains on schedule for an early 2018 launch. The Wider 165 is listed for sale at an asking price of €30,000,000.

The 47m superyacht Bartali delivered to new owner

When it comes to eco-friendliness and tree-hugging features, the world of superyachting still has a few tricks to learn from more developed industries such as the automotive field. Although not the greenest machines on the water today, many superyacht owners and their crew are making a conscious effort to cut marine pollution and spread the eco-warrior mentality wherever they go. To help celebrate Earth Day, and marine conservation in general, here we take a quick look at some of our favourite yachts that are making our planet’s oceans a safer place for all.

Built by Royal Huisman in 2008, Ethereal is regarded as perhaps the first true hybrid superyacht. Designed for world cruising, Ethereal is equipped with a 400 kWh battery store that can power a tiny village. She operates in stealth mode by using her silent hybrid propulsion system. Perhaps not the most modern-looking sailing yacht, underneath that exterior Ethereal is no ordinary superyacht.

Quinta Essentia

What sets Quinta Essentia apart from other yachts in her size class is the use of an advanced hybrid propulsion system. This involves the integration of the two conventional diesel engines together with two electric motors which are connected to variable speed generators. Guests can now look forward to a silent experience on board knowing that the energy consumed is far cleaner than the surrounding yachts at anchor.

Savannah

Feadship’s 83.5-metre Savannah made headlines back in 2015 for her green propulsion credentials. Praised for her hybrid propulsion characteristics, Savannah is fitted with an innovative single Wärtsilä diesel engine that works in tandem with an electric power plant that drives her azimuting thrusters. This allows her captain to choose between diesel, diesel-electric, or full electric power modes to offer a 30 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.

Silver Wind

The 43.6-metre motor yacht Silver Wind is fitted with a hybrid propulsion system developed by Siemens and ISA Yachts. Onboard, two diesel generators supply power to the electric units and can work at variable speed, therefore minimising fuel consumption, the noise, the emissions and the maintenance needs. At electric mode, the total fuel consumption is 90 l/h for a range of 2600 nm. Not only fuel efficient, Silver Wind lives up to her name by delivering a top speed of 32 knots.

Heesen Yachts’ Home’s hybrid credentials come from the two water-cooled DC electric shaft motors that she is fitted with that allows her to cruise at 9 knots using the generators alone. For passages, the captain can opt between two different forms of power: diesel mechanical or diesel electrical. These two systems can also be coupled to and used simultaneously for more flexible power management and increased efficiency.

Aria.S

Although she is equipped with a conventional propulsion system, no other yacht has embraced the solar panel strategy the way Arcadia Yachts’ Aria.S has. The photovoltaic cells on top of the superstructure have become a recognisable element of the Italian yacht builder’s line-up, and Aria.S is no different. These bad boys provide up to 5 kW of power, enough to guarantee self-sufficient energy for much of the equipment and electrical systems such as refrigerators, water circulation, toilettes, lights, A/V and electronics.

Sailing Yacht A

This comes as no surprise as the yacht is considered one of the most forward-thinking afloat today.

This Italian beauty houses an arsenal of clever batteries supplied by EST technologies in the Netherlands and are the latest development in LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries with a total capacity of 544 kWh. This powerful energy source is more than sufficient to supply the entire hotel system on board Bartali (ex Genesi) as well as the propulsion in what is referred to as ZEM, short for Zero Emission Mode.

Aviva

Abeking &amp; Rasmussen’s new 98-metre Aviva is all about efficiency and she is fitted with power plant to match. Her hull shape is said to deliver a 20% reduction in drag and will offer superior sea keeping capabilities. Aviva is driven by a hybrid propulsion system that allows her to travel at 11 knots without the use of her main engines.

Divine

All of this means that Divine not only manoeuvres noiselessly in marinas and anchorages but when needed, can reach a top speed of 21 knots.

Her original owner was Vice Admiral Sir Donald Gosling KCVO RNR, a member of Britain’s Royal Yacht Squadron, and was often used by the British Royal Family, notably Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip on a tour of Britain, as well as Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall in the Caribbean.

Elandess

After having only been listed for sale for two months earlier this year, the 60-metre Elandess was sold in April after having been listed for €52,500,000 through Burgess. She was sold by broker Glynn Smith at Denison Yacht Sales in the company’s largest deal to date.

Built by Abeking &amp; Rasmussen in 2010, Elandess is styled by Donald Starkey and features a stunning interior by Bannenberg &amp; Rowell Design. The yacht has subsequently been renamed Elysian following the change of hands.

RM Elegant

72 metre superyacht RM Elegant was announced sold by Camper &amp; Nicholsons in April this year with Adam-Michael Papadakis having had represented the buyer and the seller.

Complying with passenger vessel regulations, the 2005-built vessel is capable of accommodating 30 guests across 15 staterooms, with an impressive master suite spanning an entire deck.

Ester III

In certainly one of the most unique and controversial brokerage deals of the year, the 66-metre Ester III found a new owner after having been ordered to sell following the ruling of a Gibraltar court.

Sold by Fraser Yachts with Burgess representing the buyer in the deal, the Lürssen built superyacht was renamed Iroquois shortly after the sale and has since made her way to Barcelona. 

Positive Carry

Moran Yacht &amp; Ship announced the sale of the 62 metre Feadship Positive Carry in June this year. The sale of the 2005-launched yacht was handled together with Cecil Wright &amp; Partners.

Capri

The 58.6-metre Lürssen superyacht Capri changed hands in November after having been listed for sale by Burgess and Y.CO. Parsifal Yachting represented the buyer in a deal reportedly valued at €24,950,000.

Built by Lürssen in 2003, Capri features naval architecture by Lürssen whilst Glade Johnson Design undertook both her interior and exterior design. Constructed out of steel and aluminium, she has a Gross Tonnage of 1,226 and is Lloyd registered.

Meridian

Now named Party Girl, the 62-5-metre Icon superyacht Meridian was sold in July after having been listed through Rob Newton at Superyacht Sales and Charter at an asking price of €57,500,000.

Completed in 2012 by Icon Yachts and marking the third superyacht to come out of the Dutch shipyard, Party Girl delivered in 2013 as Maidelle. She features a timeless exterior design by the British studio Redman Whiteley Dixon Ltd., while her interior comes from the drawing board of Cristiano Gatto Design.

Solemar

Another 60+ metre sale in April was Solemar – the 61.5-metre Amels superyacht built in 2003. Solemar was listed for sale by Matt Albert at Yachting Partners International, with Curtis Stokes of Curtis Stokes &amp; Associates representing the buyer in the deal.

With a stellar record as a successful charter yacht, Solemar has been kept in good condition since her launch. She accommodates up to 12 guests over six luxurious cabins, consisting of a VIP cabin in the bridge deck, four double cabins on the lower deck, and an expansive split level main deck master suite.

Lady Lara

Y.CO announced in March this year that the 59.3-metre Benetti superyacht Lady Lara had been sold. At the time of sale, she was listed at an asking price of €35,000,000.

The super silent diesel-electric yacht, now known as Bartali, is the Italian shipyard’s first superyacht. The 50-metre Cecilia is currently under construction with construction on the new Wider 125 to commence early next year.

Wider 150 Genesi sold to Canadian owner

Wider has confirmed that following the commissioning of its first Wider 125 superyacht model by a northern European client, the shipyard will soon begin construction on the project. A tender garage is located forward with the capacity to stow a 5.5-metre tender along with two jet skis and a MOB tender fits comfortably on deck.

First Wider 125 superyacht sold

TEAM Italia has recently presented the innovative i-Bridge® four Islands system, developed to integrate three functional requirements that are specific to both navigation and onboard safety: modern systems, modern ergonomics and modern technologies. The resulting ergonomics are more in tune with the features of the latest onboard systems based on an advanced modular layout.

Inspired by the concepts of e-navigation, a group of experts from the TEAM Italia’s R&amp;D Department, led by Daniele Ceccanti, co-founder of the company and R&amp;D Director, worked for 16 months on the project. Top manufacturers from all over the world placed their prototypes at TEAM Italia’s disposal with the aim of testing them and assisting with the work of releasing and preparing those applications which are best suited to integrate with onboard equipment.

“We’re always on the lookout for technological innovations so we can develop and integrate our i-Bridge solutions,” commented Daniele Ceccanti. “I’ve personally had extensive experience in the world of commercial shipping where the concept of e-navigation, about which there has been much talk over the past year, will most certainly be a factor of primary importance in the future. The modules have been studied very carefully and feature arrangements which will adapt to the wheelhouse and type of ship on which they are to be installed. The layout presented at the Monaco Yacht Show was studied for superyachts measuring 60 metres and over.

Just some of the superyachts launched this year that have already integrated the i-Bridge system include the 70 metre Perini Navi-built Sybaris, Admiral’s 54.5 metre Quinta Essentia, and Wider Yachts’ 47 metre Genesi and the 45 metre Domani built by Benetti.

Innovative i-Bridge system on board 2016’s new superyachts

Following a steady stream of work on board some of the world’s most luxurious vessels, Videoworks, one of the Italian leaders in system integration on board superyachts, has reported an increased focus on the large yacht sector, especially within their R&amp;D department.

We recently spoke to the team at Videoworks, who detailed two of their most recent, notable projects: the 54 metre Atlante, and the 45 metre Genesi. Built by the CRN shipyard in 2015 and featuring exterior design from Nuvolari Lenard Architects, Videoworks realised the complete Audio/Visual, Home Automation and Entertainment systems on board Atlante. The team told us that attention to detail is always of the highest priorities in any project, and on board, all technology is cleverly hidden while having a very low architectural impact on the aesthetic of the project.

Though still shrouded in secrecy, Videoworks also revealed that projects currently in the pipeline include a vessel for a Dutch shipyard as well as several projects in Italy, ranging from 28 to 80 metres.

Videoworks on board superyachts

In the competitive market segment of yachts ranging between 40 and 50 metres, it happens only a handful of times per year that a new launch in this size range deserves a closer look. Wider’s latest, the stunning 45 metre Genesi, certainly can be described as one of these cases. Her exterior appearance alone suggests that Genesi is no ordinary superyacht. Constructed entirely out of aluminium, the first Wider 150 was created by Fulvio De Simoni in collaboration with Tilli Antonelli and the in-house Wider design team. The company’s philosophy of creating the ultimate sea-side luxury experience by constantly narrowing the gap between indoor and outdoor areas applies here more than ever in a spectacular combination of innovative guest spaces that serve a multitude of purposes.

Exterior deck spaces are characterised by a sensual feeling of spaciousness and uninterrupted view. Simplistic handrails for instance along with glass-wrapped sides on the sun deck means guests won’t have to struggle in order to enjoy the surroundings, no matter where the are outside.

Genesi’s exterior trump card is without a doubt located in the stern of the vessel. Here a 90 square metre beach club is on offer that serves as storage for her Wider 32 tender (an incredible feature for a 45 metre yacht alone) which wonderfully transforms into an oasis once the anchor has been dropped. Guests can cool down in the on board seawater pool which leads out onto two side balconies and an oversized aft swim platform, all of which forms one large beach area.

Wider’s continuous search for sustainable energy on board their vessels has led them to apply a unique propulsion system. The propulsion system is completely modular, so the WIDER 150 can cruise using only the battery packs, in ZEM (Zero Emission Mode), or with up to four inline diesel generators. The batteries, supplied by EST technologies in Holland, are the latest development in LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries with a total capacity of 544 kWh. This powerful energy source is more than sufficient to supply the entire hotel system on board as well as in Zero Emission Mode.

Winners of the 2016 World Superyacht Awards announced

The Wider shipyard made a splash last year when they unveiled their very first superyacht, the 45 metre Wider 150 named Genesi. The yacht is characterised by its lightweight construction and innovative hybrid propulsion system. During the Yachts Miami Beach show last week, the Italian shipyard unveiled this video showing off the yacht’s endless capabilities and options on offer by its functional and stylish beach club in particular.

The batteries, supplied by EST technologies in Holland, are the latest development in LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries with a total capacity of 544 kWh. This powerful energy source is more than sufficient to supply the entire hotel system on board as well as the propulsion in what is referred to as ZEM, short for Zero Emission Mode.

Italian shipyard Wider Yachts has recently released the following renderings of the Wider 165’ Project Cecilia. Currently under construction at the yard’s facilities in Ancona, the 50 metre superyacht has been designed by Fulvio de Simoni, and is constructed with an aluminium hull and superstructure. First footage of Wider 150 superyacht Genesi under way

Wider Yachts have released some of the first images taken of their largest completed yacht to date, the 45m superyacht Genesi, on the opening day of the 56th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Genesi was launched two weeks ago at the Wider superyacht division in Ancona, and is currently undergoing final on board tests and sea trials.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/157014/image/large-ffc98172c617a4eb7e049fac4da28b05.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/157014">The yacht’s design is the work of Fulvio De Simoni, who decorated the elegant and contemporary interior using custom furniture pieces and leather panelling supplied by Poltrona Frau. Large full height windows in the main and upper lounges create a spectacular viewing point from the comfort of the rich and comfortable interior.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/157015/image/large-d33a56ba5dd55a60969efab111b7ffe8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/157015">Forward of the main saloon is the 75m2 full beam owner’s suite. This space can be cleverly split into two separate areas by a sliding door that isolates the study area from the sleeping quarters and walk-in wardrobe. The suite also has its own 5.6m2 fold-down terrace. Italian yacht builder Wider Yachts has launched their largest superyacht to date, the first Wider 150, superyacht Genesi. Taking place at the Wider superyacht division headquarters in Ancona, Italy, the new yacht is finished in a glistening coat of white paint, all interior areas have been completely outfitted, and the yacht is now ready to start an intensive period of seatrials.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156761/image/large-10fa0814db5f3aa7621c7ca0b74baf4a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156761">“It is enormously satisfying to see Genesi in the water for the first time” says Tilli Antonelli, Wider Founder and CEO. “But now we have the important task of checking that everything is working to the same high standards that we have set ourselves in every other aspect of the construction process. We believe that this can be done in 8-10 weeks but will not rush anything if it means compromising on the quality of the finished yacht. Wider launches 45m superyacht Genesi

The first Wider 150, project Genesi, has left the yard’s main shed and has been moved to the harbour of Ancona, ahead of her launch to take place this week. Wider readies for 150 Genesi launch

SuperYacht Times recently talked to Sales and Marketing Director of Wider Yachts, Jeremy Roche, at the latest edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, where Wider discussed the soon to be launched 150’ superyacht as well as future projects for the shipyard.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156667/image/large-f9529918dbbdab7c07f8e3e2b7334c08.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156667">Can you tell me what’s going on with Wider right now?With the imminent launch of the 150 Project Genesi, our efforts are focused on ensuring that we complete all of the outstanding details required to guarantee that the operation goes ahead seamlessly. The area requiring a final push is the unique Wider beach club. This aside, the yacht is now fully painted, scaffolding has been removed, decks have been sanded and all of the engineering systems have been thoroughly tested over the last 8 to 10 weeks.The interior is 80% complete – although some areas more so than others. The sky lounge has the entire interior flooring as well as all the interior furniture fitted, as have the owner’s apartment and main saloon. The trolleys, which will move the yacht from the yard to the basin for launching, are on site and the big step now is getting her in the water!<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156668/image/large-57918140aa597559964c604b8958bc30.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156668">When is she expected to be delivered?We are talking to a number of interested parties and, to a certain extent, it depends on how we progress with these clients but the 150 will need 8 to 12 weeks of commissioning after launch.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156669/image/large-fcda28b23b7172d96bdc9ac73dbec03f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156669">There have been a lot of new orders recently. Do you think this is a very sellable boat?Very much so. Around late April, the amount of inquires we received, the general level of interest, and the number of visits to the shipyard from both brokers and customers increased dramatically. At the end of the Cannes show we did a quick report in terms of numbers of qualified registrations we had in comparison to the previous years. It was five or six times more. Interest is massively on the up.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156670/image/large-05f7b632377f1f0b4e882321f246dc90.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156670">How is the 165 coming along?We’ll be talking about the 165 a lot more over the coming months. The plan is that when the 150 leaves the main shed, the 165 which is being built in the shed just 500 metres away will be lifted up with same trolleys and moved to the main shed for outfitting. This is scheduled for the 25th of OctoberRight now, the aluminium hull and superstructure have been completed on the 165, all tanks have been pressure tested and we’ve also made good progress with some of the piping. She needs to be moved to the main shed for the next phase of construction, so wiring, painting preparation, interior outfitting, etc. We’re looking at a delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016, and that one has been sold already.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156671/image/large-d61f7f57bb988971e3b50fee19cf4327.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156671">Are you already considering your next project?Yes. The idea is to start building another 150 as soon as we sell Project Genesi. With the 125, we’re working with three or four potential customers at the moment but won’t start the 125 project until we have something signed. We’re also talking to several customers about possible larger projects.It’s a very challenging project in terms of technology. Has it proven to be more challenging during the construction than you anticipated?It’s largely proven technology which is common in military and commercial applications. We are adapting it to a yacht, but we are using very well-known suppliers and they have experience working in this area. Of course there are challenges along the way, but this is the case with all yachts whether traditional propulsion or Diesel Electric. Wider Yachts discusses ongoing projects

Wider tells us the launch of the Wider 150, Genesi, is fast approaching – with a delivery in September. Wider presenting the Express Cruising Division at the SYS

The latest progress report from the Wider facility in Ancona, Italy regarding the latest Wider 150’ superyacht has been released. The shipyard has revealed that the Lithium Polymer batteries that make up the heart of the diesel electric system have arrived and are ready to be installed on board.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153093/image/large-6252b096007d65c3766f653c9fb340ae.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153093">With the arrival of these units, every major component of the diesel electric system is in place to complete the picture. Construction of Wider 150’ making progress 

Wider Yachts has announced the most recent construction update of the Wider 150 project currently underway at the shipyard’s facilities with the arrival of the Veth electric pods.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152795/image/large-ec987ce95c0e724502ce5aaa69445204.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152795">The pods will deliver 100% thrust with 360º maneuverability, also resulting in a remarkably shallow draft of less than two metres. The pods work in conjunction with the diesel electric installation, drawing power from the generators or from the sizeable but lightweight battery banks, and will be installed imminently. Wider is currently working on the hull of the new Wider 165, their largest superyacht project to date. Construction of Wider 165 well underway

Today, composite yachts are built in a 10,000m2 structure in Castelvecchio di Monte Porzio which assembles the parts produced by top specialists in the sector, whilst the production of aluminium superyachts takes place at the 2500m2 facility in Ancona. SYT visits the Wider shipyard

Wider President and CEO Tilli Antonelli announced at a VIP cocktail reception and press briefing on the eve of the 2014 Yacht &amp; Brokerage Show in Miami Beach that his shipyard is building a 50-meter superyacht. The Wider 165’, which will be the Italian builder’s largest superyacht project to date, was ordered by the yard’s new co-owner. Along with its innovative submersible bay, the new 165’ accommodates a touch-and-go helipad and offers a truly magnificent “Wider Beach” – one of the most spacious transom swim-and-sunbathing decks in its class – complete with indoor swimming pool. Emerson Industrial Automation, which like Wider is an international leader in bringing technology and engineering together to create innovative solutions for its clients, will supply the electric propulsion system for the Wider 165’. The overall propulsion system is completely modular: the yacht can cruise using only the battery packs, in ZEM mode (Zero Emission Mode). With up to four diesel generators online, it will be able to operate at a higher range of speeds while maintaining limited specific consumptions.All the onboard energy sources are controlled by the Wider Management System, a next generation, smart, independent and incorporated system that controls the power supplied by the shore connection, gensets and battery packs, distributing it between the Hotel systems, propulsion system and recharging the battery packs, as needed.In addition, the Wider 165’ is equipped with an AziPod propulsion system that affords significant advantages compared to a conventional shaftline system: Vibrations are reduced (even when reversing), handling is ultra-smooth, and no rudders are needed for maneuvering, therefore draft is minimal. For these reasons, the material chosen for the entire construction of the Wider 165’ is aluminum, a noble, durable metal that, being particularly lightweight, makes it possible to increase the performance/consumption ratio of the yacht and achieve a considerable reduction in emissions. Combined with the fact that aluminum is completely recyclable, this helps to reduce the vessel’s footprint on the environment. Aluminum provides greater freedom during construction as it increases the opportunity for customization, yet considerably shortens production times. Wider Yachts confirms the sale of the first Wider 150’.

Wider announces new developments for Wider 150’, commencing production of the very first unit. This is an important step for the shipyard, just over a year after the project was presented at the 2011 Monaco Boat Show. A thrilling but complex process then began, leading to establishment of a new production pole based in Marche. The process will be completed in 28 months' time with production and delivery of the maxi yacht. The shipyard plans to further enrich its fleet with the design of models Wider 100’ and Wider 120'.“Our challenge began with Wider 42’, a day cruiser with a highly innovative character that inaugurated the Wider cockpit category,” declared Tilli Antonelli, President and CEO of Wider, “and now involves production of Wider 150’, whose excellent performance in terms of design and the versatility of the on-board space represent a revolutionary project. A further two terraces have been added to that of the master cabin, making the upper deck airier and more spacious. The other substantial change to the project is the increase in the width of the hull, now more spacious, offering greater on-board comfort.The Wider 150’ features a timeless and extremely elegant design by Fulvio De Simoni, with clean lines and trim, polished surfaces. The aesthetic balance of the lines mirrors the overall balance of the project, conveying harmony between ship and sea, both for the comfort of life on-board and environmental impact.The size of the stern area is extraordinary for a ship of this size and contributes substantially to making life in direct contact with the sea even more pleasant, fully respecting the Wider spirit. This is also thanks to the beautiful indoor swimming-pool and large “beach”. Besides the stern, all the other details of the ship have been studied to emphasise direct contact with the great outdoors, beginning with the large glazed surfaces that open out onto each deck, bringing huge amounts of light indoors. Moreover, the master cabin is split into two separate areas by a sliding wall. Indeed, besides the cabin itself, there is a salon/office where the broadside opens outwards to create a beautiful private terrace overlooking the sea.The captain's cabin is located aft of the steering station, enabling him or her to have complete control of the ship at all times, whilst the forward area of the lower deck is destined for the crew quarters and various services.
