The Australia-based shipbuilder was founded by Guido Krass together with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Espen Øino International (Company)">Espen Øino</a> in 2005 with a simple vision: deliver sleek, fast and efficient all-aluminium superyachts. During the late 2010s <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/899" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silver Yachts (Company)">SilverYachts</a> changed course and responded to a new market demand – rugged, go-anywhere exploration – and the yard fully utilised its no-nonsense approach. In 2019 it launched one of the most iconic superyachts of the decade: the 85.3-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6018" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bold85.3m (279'10&quot;)Silver Yachts2019">Bold</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/187254/image/large-a7635d0a14a19de89142821d5c1d47ac.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/187254">The superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6018" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bold85.3m (279'10&quot;)Silver Yachts2019">Bold</a> caused quite the stir and the Australian shipyard is gearing up to launch the second unit from the series, the 85-metre Globalfast, with a delivery date slated for October of this year. However, even though <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/899" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silver Yachts (Company)">SilverYachts</a> has seen success with these major monohull projects, and currently has a design for a 79.5-metre superyacht on the market, Silver Edge, the shipyard is on a new trajectory: catamarans. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/172379/image/large-f14ce4a39b9d91d29dcbf2d550c9e0f2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/172379"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/172380/image/large-d5c418aeba13d3d07ad901ff806bc2d4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/172380">“Most clients choose volume over speed and efficiency, so our superyacht range is pretty niche,” Toonen confessed. “The image of superyachts portrayed through social media is also becoming increasingly critical. With growing demands for bigger and better, they’re becoming unsustainable – and they’re getting slammed online because of it.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/221630/image/large-79ec0f5d2d55daaa9d5f2a1e78b66d0c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/221630">The market is reflective of this cultural change around yachting and multihull builders have been going from strength-to-strength. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Espen Øino International (Company)">Espen Øino</a> anticipated this shift, and his foresight seems to be bang on the money. It’s <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Espen Øino International (Company)">Øino</a> behind the design of this new directive of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/899" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silver Yachts (Company)">SilverYachts</a>, as the Monaco-based studio penned the design for the SpaceCat series.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/119386/image/large-25e4bac6ef5b341b9842edf948234b21.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/119386">Toonen explained the ethos of the series: “The basic idea was to design a large floating platform with accommodation; the logical move was then catamarans. Two slim hulls joined together creating space. Rather than buying one large superyacht, our clients can purchase several SpaceCats that they can dot around the world. The second hull from the series will follow the first as she’ll be built in China, however the third will be built at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/899" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silver Yachts (Company)">SilverYachts</a>’ facilities in Australia.&nbsp;The SpaceCat series will also expand with a 24-metre model.

The two biggest enemies of efficiency in yacht design are weight and beam which catamarans, by virtue, overcome. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Espen Øino International (Company)">Øino</a> has been delving into this area of design and worked with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/899" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silver Yachts (Company)">Silver Yachts</a> to create the 36-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/YachtModel/8565" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="SpaceCat35.5m (116'6&quot;)">SpaceCat</a>. During his talk at Monaco, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Espen Øino International (Company)">Øino</a> also shared a new concept that intersects CAT with SWATH. Even though this is only a thought experiment at the moment, it is one that would put a big shoulder behind sustainability if ever actualised.&nbsp;

Likely because these yachts, owned by the same owner, spend most of their time exploring the depths of the Pacific Ocean or anchored off some remote island.The 56 metre explorer vessel Alucia underwent a full 12-month refit last year in New Zealand where she had a new engine exhaust purification system installed and maintenance and upgrade of her submarine and dive control systems. These upgrades were necessary for the 40 year old vessel to retain her SOLAS standards and stay in survey to continue her mission as a no-nonsense world explorer.Her much younger and slightly smaller cruising companion, Umbra, started life as a fast support Sea Axe vessel built by Dutch shipyard Damen in 2010. She too was refitted by Diverse projects and released from the Oceania Marine shipyard in New Zealand in March this year with the addition of a removable helicopter pad. The International Superyacht Society (ISS) announced the winners of the 2015 Design &amp; Leadership Awards yesterday at the 25th anniversary of ISS’s Awards Gala in Fort Lauderdale. In terms of the superyachts, award categories are separated into motor and sailing yachts in various size ranges, best interior design and best refit, in which six yachts were listed as winners with the 51.8 metre Elfje awarded two titles in the ceremony, including best interior.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156961/image/large-f088ba19c303a25b2bdb9cb136fa45bb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156961">The 33.04 metre Win Win from Baltic was awarded best sailing yacht between 24 to 40 metres, whilst best sailing yacht of 40+ metres was awarded to Elfje, built by Royal Huisman. ISS Design & Leadership Award winners

YachtAid Global (YAG) has called on the yachting industry to support its ongoing fundraising efforts for aid in the island nation of Vanuatu in the wake of the destruction of Cyclone Pam, which devastated the area in early March this year. The California based non-profit organisation is also requesting support in Micronesia after Typhoon Mayask, which hit on 30th March.<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; background-image: none; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; text-align: -webkit-center;"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153794/image/large-7044660b65207e2bc49ec4873e3c2be5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153794">YAG recently collaborated with two privately owned yachts which mobilised to Vanuatu for several days following the wide-scale destruction and devastation seen on the islands, Umbra and Dragonfly. The superyachts delivered approximately 140,000 liters of water and several tons of aid over a ten day period using their helicopters. YachtAid Global campaign for disaster relief efforts in Vanuatu

The Captain on board the 71 metre superyacht Dragonfly has released this video documenting the disaster relief effort in Vanuatu following the devastating aftermath of Cyclone Pam, which hit the islands of the Pacific Ocean last month.<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/os5gfk3l5Qo" width="560"></iframe>Dragonfly made the journey to Vanuatu in just over three and a half days after answering the call for aid, travelling a distance of 1,600 nm. Since her arrival to the area a few weeks ago, the yacht and her crew have been tirelessly working to provide aid and medical supplies to the overwhelming amount of people affected by the disaster.

The 73.3 metre superyacht Dragonfly has arrived in Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean following calls for aid for vessels in the area regarding the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam over the past few days. Dragonfly made the journey to Vanuatu in just over three and a half days, travelling a distance of 1,600 nm.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153042/image/large-cde56851d655073f6d4da4aa5616b0ac.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152965">While the situation on the ground remains dynamic, the yacht and her crew have been tasked by the Vanuatu government with supplying aid and providing a medical response to the Shepherd Islands, just north east of Efate where Port Vila is located. This area has seen 80-100% of all villages destroyed and has no access to fresh water, food or shelter.Captain Mike Gregory comments, “Dragonfly has extensively cruised the beautiful and remote areas of Vanuatu over the past 2 years. Superyacht Dragonfly arrives in Vanuatu

Under the owners instructions, the 73 metre superyacht Dragonfly has been deployed to the island nation of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean to assist with major disaster relief work in the area following the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam over the past week.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152965/image/large-6b6336b8fb3f98634dd93cdba9c01942.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152965">A vast percentage of the country’s infrastructure was damaged in one of the worst storms to hit the island in history, resulting in an overwhelming number of displaced people. Superyacht Dragonfly aims to transport aid, SAR and medical teams from the Capital Port Vila to isolated communities on the outlying islands which remain cut off following the storm.On scene coordination and efforts are not clear at this stage and it is hoped that the yacht and her crew will be able to provide communications and support in this remote area. “I’ve never seen so many owners have so much fun as at the Rendezvous. Who would have thought!!” said Captain Charlie (Champagne) Dwyer, when asked about the 10th year Asia Superyacht Rendezvous. Long range crossings are achieved swiftly with fast transit speeds of up to 27 knots, and an extended 5500 nautical mile range without the need for bunkering. The vessel has already seen some spectacular sights with highlights including a trackside berth at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, cruising of the pristine fjords in Oman and exploring some of the up and coming cruising destinations in the Middle East region. Silver Zwei set sail on her latest ocean crossing 9th June with the aim of breaking her own speed and efficiency record. She arrived in Singapore in good time at the stylish Oneº15 Marina Club Singapore on 17th June 2010 and will cruise the waters in and around Singapore before sailing further afield to explore the broader Asian cruising playgrounds during the next couple of months. The Silver series evolution began as the vision of shipyard and vessel owner Guido Krass. Krass and his friend Espen Oeino worked in close collaboration from the outset optimizing the hull form, layout and overall vessel styling to ensure Silver would deliver the next level of Superyacht contemporary style, comfort, speed and efficiency.
